The Bristal: Mom and Dad will LOVE this Community

I am a Healthcare Professional who owns a Home Care Agency. I am a frequent visitor to this Community (as residents occasionally call upon my Agency to provide short-term, one-on-one assistance for Mom or Dad in addition to the services they receive at The Bristal). I have also referred a number of families to The Bristal at North Woodmere. The staff is extremely warm, friendly, welcoming and professional, while the Community itself is clean, gorgeous, and vibrant. This is a direct reflection on the Staff, as well as on the Bristal Philosophy and Mission Statement. From the ED, [name removed], to Wellness Director [name removed], and on down to Food Services, Recreation, Housekeeping, Wait Staff and the Front Desk, every member of the Bristal Team takes it upon themself to engage the Residents individually, and to make them feel like they are respected and valued member of the Community. I am most impressed with how "social" the atmosphere at the Bristal feels. There is always a buzz in the lunch room (where Food Services Director [name removed] takes great pride in providing delicious and creative meals and snacks). And there is a constant bustle of activity - from Music Programs, to regular Card games, to Movies, and of course everyone's favorite: Bingo! There are also frequent Bus Trips for Outside activities like the Beach, Broadway Plays, and other Special Events. The rooms are beautiful, and provide a true feeling of home when the Residents have had their fill of the daily activities in the Community. DCR [name removed] is often giving tours of the building during my visits, and takes great pride in helping families make an informed, UN-pressured decision as to whether her Community is the "right fit" for the family's Loved One. I am frankly a bit envious of the amenities, luxury and pampering that Bristal North Woodmere residents get to experience, and would wholeheartedly recommend this Community for families looking to ensure that Mom and Dad get the most out of their Senior Years!

Bristal North Woodmere

My mom has been living at the Bristal in North Woodmere for over a year and still says "Home Sweet Home" when returning from an outing. Nothing could be more comforting than seeing her in a happy and safe environment. Working with [Name removed] made mom's move a smooth and stress free transition for the whole family. [Name removed] works very diligently to make sure everything is taken care of. I especially love how the whole staff greats my mom by name and everyone is very in tune to her needs. I highly recommend the Bristal at North Woodmere.

[Name removed] was very informative and helpful and honest. I think it would be great for Mom. Only wish she agreed!!! There are services every Shabbat and news discussions every day.

Location, location, location.
My uncle wanted to be closer to where he curreblntly lives, [name removed]

Nothing not to love about the Bristal N.Woodmere. It is a contender.

The Bristal North Woodmere

Mom's move to the Bristal was accomplished in a very fast and relatively stress free environment. I owe all this to [Removed], who no matter how often I called or emailed her she always made time for our family. She was extremely sensitive to what we needed and went out of her way to help us. We chose the 1 bedroom at the last minute and it was available within 24 hours of our request.
Mom has been living at the Bristal for 6 weeks now and is extremely happy. Everything from the food to the staff is exactly what we had hoped for. We are so pleased with our decision and know that our Mom is in the best assisted living home. I would highly recommend The Bristal at North Woodmere!

Food could use some improvements!!

I think the only complaint my dad had has while he was at this community was the food. He had mentioned multiple times that there was never enough choices to choose from and that it felt like they had the same meal all the time as well as the food always being very bland. Other than that I have been pleased with the quality of care he has been receiving as well as the friendliness of all the staff members.

Getting adjusted!

Everything has been going great here. Dad is getting adjusted well. All has been good and he likes it. The staff has been doing a good job. They do offer activities for the residents to enjoy.

Smiles From The Staff

I have no complaints my mom had wonderful care in the Reflection Program that is offered here. They were willing to accommodate the family and understood the situation. In the beginning they called me to explain their program and when I toured I saw good attitude from the staff and saw that the program is what she needed for dementia. It's not constant care but also not a nursing facility. During her respite my mom enjoyed the meals and the staff said she had a good appetite.

My mother was a resident at the Bristal at North Woodmere for a few weeks of respite. The ladies of the Reflections program there were wonderful to her and to me. Their smiles, their good humor, their interaction with my mom, their care of her, did not go unnoticed. My mom just flourished there. She and I both wished she could continue staying there but unfortunately it was too financially expensive.

A lovely place!!

A few of the caregivers were better than others. The rest of the caregivers were not attentive. They treated mom like she was a child. The food was mediocre. They had set dining room times. She went out to wait for me and the staff said she was wondering. I then had to hire attendants to help them watch her. I feel they over reacted and she is no longer at this community.

A Tour I Had

I took a tour at this community and they were a great place to see. At the time I wanted to move my loved one here. Later the level of care changed and they would not be able to provide the level of care that we need. The people who gave me a tour did a great job and they gave me information about the community.

Tender Loving Care!!

My loved one is still trying to adjust to the community. So far, she mentions that she doesn't really feel secured because her door doesn't lock and that there is no privacy for her. The staff and all of the rest of the personal are all really nice and attentive. The taste of the food isn't very good it could be better, the portions are also very large. One thing i really like is that they do try to accommodate her which is wonderful.

Review of The Bristal at North Woodmere - Valley Stream, NY

Too big like a Hotel. Certain candidates could get lost. Not equipped for the memory care type

Not there just yet

My Mom did not get there just yet, she is going tomorrow. She toured a while back and as far as I know, the staff was friendly and the facility was nice.

Fine Reflections at the Bristal North Woodmere

Everyone, from management to the aides in the wings, has been warm, welcoming, professional, accommodating and caring.

My mother had a bad experience in a memory care unit in another state. But now that I've moved her here to the Bristal, she is always upbeat and happy whenever I visit, three of four times a week. She says that she is treated with dignity and respect, that everyone is always patient and courteous, and the food is excellent.

Her room is always clean, her laundry and linens are taken care of, and there is always something going on in the common room. I couldn't be more pleased.

dad loves it there!

My father calls it "my fancy hotel". He absolutely loves it there!

If there is any negative at all, it is that it is not a medical facility so they have to rush him to a hospital for medical care and he has had to be rushed there six times in the last couple weeks, and a few of those turned out not to be necessary.

They really are a wonderful group of people and are very attentive to him. They are really lovely caring people. They know their clientele very well. They know my father by name and always greet him kindly and warmly.

Nice place, overall

Overall The Bristal seemed like a nice enough place, although I do think there were a few ways our experience could have been improved. In terms of the aide staff and the facility itself they do a very nice job. The people are friendly and the facility is clean and well kept. However, I think the communication with families could have been better, and we had some difficulty coordinating my loved ones medical care.

More activities than before!

The activities at Bristal Assisted Living are great, my dad was at different place before, but now it's like night and day, they always have stuff going on all the time for the residents. It's a beautiful place, and the people there are all so sweet and kind.

We are so glad to hear that your dad is enjoying the activities at The Bristal! Making sure our residents are always keeping a healthy and active lifestyle is very important to us. Our recreation staff will be glad to hear that their hard work is being appreciated. Thank you for your feedback!

Only a brief stay, but seemed like a nice place

My loved one was only here a brief time before she moved to another state, but overall I thought they did a good job while she was here. It is a nice looking, clean community, and the staff all seemed friendly. They went out of their way to try and make her feel welcome when she moved in. They also appeared to have a busy activity schedule, it looked like there was a lot going on!

Excellent services, but difficult to get a hold of administrative staff

Everything they provide here has been excellent in terms of the level of care, the service, and the facility itself. It's clean and well kept, the staff are very friendly, and everyone seems well taken care of. However, I've been having some issues with their billing department. I received a much larger than expected bill, and I have not been able to get a hold of anyone who has been able to explain it to me.

Bristal at North Woodmere

Some of things promised such as escort service for first few days was spotty. Food varied and plentiful but bland

Nice looking community

We toured this location when we were looking into respite care options for my loved one. This was a nice looking place, the facility itself was clean and well kept and the staff were all very friendly. However, we discovered that in New York state respite care stays must be a minimum of 30 days, which is much longer than we were looking for. The cost is also higher than options we saw in other states.

The prices in North Woodmere start at $2995 a month for a friendship suite. Perhaps, the apartment type wasn't available when you inquired. If you're interested in residency at the community, we would recommend that you leave a wait list deposit for the apartment of your choice.

It was a great experience. Everyone loves it.

A Very Good Place for Mom

My husband and I liked the Bristal for many reasons. It is located about six minutes from our home. It is beautifully furnished in the lobby as well as in all the public rooms. We were always greeted at the desk with courtesy and immediate attention and we wanted all of this for my 91 year old mother.
We met with lovely [removed] Joyce Sokoloff and Joan Shapiro took us on tours and helped to explain the basic arrangements for my mother. When my mother visited the Bristal she was willing to make the move.
Mom is only here for one week. Already, she has made friends, learned about events and has participated in many activities. She is walking better since taking up exercise class!

Reflecting on Memory Loss

Each of The Bristal communities houses a special area called Reflections. Reflections is a comprehensive memory enhancement program that specializes in dealing with older adults who are facing early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s Disease and other memory-related cognitive disorders. Each location is staffed with experienced professionals who are trained and equipped to enhance the quality of life for these special-needs residents and their families. For instance, a sophisticated wander system, featuring electronic bracelets, alerts the staff whenever a Reflections resident nears an exiting door. Residents enjoy access to a secure outdoor courtyard. All in all, care at Reflections is provided in a safe, secure and compassionate environment – a place, quite literally, our residents call home.
