Customer Reviews

My Mother was a resident at Franciscan Court.

Franciscan Court in West Chicago is a little "gem" tucked away the area of Routes #59 & #64. It is family owned and the family is involved with the day-to-day operations. It is immaculate and the clients receive loving care from the staff. The nurse's ([name removed] & [name removed]) are very caring and if you have concerns they are always ready to assist you. The food is plentiful and appetizing. After touring several facilities for my Mom I found Franciscan Court to be very reasonable in price. A high price doesn't mean better care! Every individual has different needs, and if your loved one is unable to remain safely in their home any longer, Franciscan Court would be a wonderful alternative.

Franciscan ct

Residents are treated well and with respect. It is very much a family run, caring place. The nurses are excellent. The population seems to be very Senior. My mom is one of the few in her 70's. They plan some nice activities and have a weekly Bible study mom really enjoys.

great place for mom

My mom lives here and the staff are wonderful.
There are plenty of daily activities.
The staff here always comes up with different things to
help my mom.
We are very happy with franciscan court and would
recommend any family looking for assisted living go there
and take a tour.

Safe and Happy

My sister moved to Franciscan Court four months ago and likes it very much. The important things are very obvious: she feels safe there and she likes the food. The care staff (physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, housekeeping, nurses) have worked together to help her deal with her physical problems, which were assessed quickly and dealt with directly.

Franciscan Court is a caring environment. Family owned and operated. [name removed] spent a great deal of time explaining everything and showing me the facility. I am still deciding what is the best fit for my mom, but this is on my list.

We toured this community

We went on a tour here and the staff was friendly. They answered all of our questions. We liked them alot but they had no separate safe section for the memory care. It looked nice and clean. But it was ultimately my parents choice.

Treated like family!

Very nice facility, they treat my uncle like family at the Franciscan Court. The staff is very friendly and caring and attentive to his care needs. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. They welcome all of my family members when we come to visit and we feel like a part of the family at Franciscan Court. My uncle is still acclimating to his new surroundings so the staff members really go out of their way to encourage him to participate in the activities that they offer. They provide transportation for the residents to go out on shopping trips and other excursions. The grounds are well-maintained, and they have nice courtyards and patio areas for the residents to go outside and enjoy the fresh air. This community is excellent value for your money. I would highly recommend this community to friends and family.

Miscommunication

Franciscan Court was a community we were going to move my dad into except for the miscommunication that they were under the impression that we were going to commit to 12 months. It was a very nice and clean community. The staff was very friendly and helpful of letting us know everything that could do for my dad. It just was not in our budget.

Nice tour

Franciscan Court was a very nice and clean community that we toured. The staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions. The atmosphere was not as bright and cheery as we had seen. We chose another community because we wanted mom in independent living.

We moved mom to a better community for her.

This community had one caregiver to eighteen residents. This community seems to be for more active residents. They over medicated mom and forced her to sleep in her bed instead of in her chair. She fell out of bed twice and they did not let us know that this is what happened when she went to the hospital. When she returned from the hospital they forced us to pay for a full time caregiver. They did not seem to have the time to care for her properly.

Father's Great Care

I like the care for my father. The staff keeps me informed on his care. We are trying to get a phone line in my father's room. The menu is appealing, but my father is wanting more of a variety of what is offered. The activities are good for my father and he is starting to participate with the other residents. We would recommend the care and the good value of this community for the care of a loved one.

My ;Mother's Good Care

This is a good community for my mom. The staff is nice and very caring to her needs. The food is appealing there is a nice variety of meals. We like seeing that this community is always clean. The activities are offered to here. She likes playing bingo with the other residents. We would recommend this nice community for others.

Highly recommend Franciscan Court

The facility is family owned and operated. It's clean and the food is tasty. There are several daily activities, and they also offer physical therapy. The staff, including administration, is very knowledgeable, caring and helpful, on a personal level. They made transition from long term rehab very smooth. I'm very happy we selected this facility for my brother's care. He's very happy there, and I would highly recommend it.

Smaller and Cozier

It has been alright since selecting this community. They have nice rugs and the staff talk to the residents and they have music playing. I does not seem like an institution and it is a smaller place for the staff to easily look over the residents. It has a homey feeling and the owner is nice. Their family works in the community as staff. I feel they can improve with organizing personal belongings and keeping it maintained too. I am able to enjoy myself and I feel comfortable with the care they provide.

Great activities !!

My mother has really made a smooth adjustment with the help of the staff into this community. She is absolutely thrilled that she no longer has to do dishes and that her three meals a day are provided for her. My mother also loves to participate in all the great activities they have to offer there residents especially the bingo. I wish they had it for them more than one day a week. Overall I have no complaints so far and would recommend this place to anyone.

Friendly Environment!

The Franciscan Court is a very clean nice family owned community. It has a homie feel and everyone is very friendly. When new residents move in, they put new carpet and fresh paint in the room they will be staying in. The place is clean and they recently remodeled the second story.

A tour with care

we toured this community. We did like that it was clean. We were able to see the variety of meals that are offered. The activities would have been helpful and the other residents seemed to be active here. We liked the atmosphere. We would recommend this for the value and care for other families.

They are updating their facility, which is really nice. They do take private pay and medicaid. Family run business and a very nice community.

A Simple Tour

They impressed me when I found that it was a family owned facility, no corporate. It is a small community and they really seem to know their residents. For my mom, it did not seem to have activities in the home.

Knowledgeable Staff!!

The staff was excellent during our tour, they where very knowledgeable about there community and gave my loved one and I lots of useful information. The building was beautiful, and the lobby and the dinning room was very well maintained.

I'm too young! Lovely staff, but I can't live there yet.

Positives: smaller community and facility. Some religious services available on site and family owned. Close to several of our families. Good to see some renovations and updating.

As this is the first residence we have visited, we don't have a comparison to evaluate against. Everyone we encountered presented themselves as genuine.

Great Community!

My loved one has been doing well since the move to the Franciscan Court. The staff have been very helpful with the transition to the community. The community is very nicely kept and clean throughout. They have a variety of options for meals and activities for the residents to enjoy.

5 Stars All The Way!!

Franciscan Court offers various activities to the residents. At the moment my aunt is not participating in any but with the encouragement the staff provides she will soon. The community is safe and offers good meals. The staff are nice and very attentive. I would recommend the community it has many activities and amenities along with great staff.

Excellent experience, wonderful facility!

My father lived at Franciscan Court for almost three years. The care he received while he was there was outstanding, the nursing staff was excellent and always kept us informed of anything out of the ordinary. He would tell me regularly that he really loved everyone on the staff and they made him feel that he was important to them. I personally found the staff to be kind, caring, attentive, respectful, easy to work with and professional. They go out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. My father loved the musical programs, ice cream socials, exercise time and his weekly excursions to WalMart. There were plenty of activities to keep him occupied. FC is family owned, smaller in size and has a very comfortable and homey feel to it. The facility is well maintained and clean. The interior is simple, tasteful and cheerful. The outdoor courtyard is very pretty and a great place to sit and enjoy good weather. My father had a studio apartment that was perfect for his needs. He had a small refrigerator and microwave so he could keep a few of his favorite snacks in his room for in-between meals down in the dining room. We thought FC was a good value in comparison to other places we looked and we really liked the atmosphere and smaller size. I am very happy with the care and consideration we received from the folks at Franciscan Court and my father was happy as well – he told me that regularly!

excellent experience

Our uncle lived at Francisan Court, West Chicago for almost a year. He was extremely well cared for physically. He was so appreciative of the staff that knew him by name and listened to his needs. They really were sincere in their care and it was evident to him and to us. I would recommend this facility without question.

a fantastic facility

I put my uncle in Franciscan Court when he got to the point where he couldn't live without help anymore. I've been so impressed. The staff is phenomenal, kind, caring, loving, they treated my uncle as if he were one of their own family members. They treated him with the respect that he deserved. The nursing staff went above and beyond what I ever expected for him. The food was wonderful. The facility was always clean and smell free. The doctor came to the facility, along with an eye doctor, and a hair stylist. The only time he need to leave the facility was to go to the dentist which was less than two blocks away. They also don't nickle and dime every service that they provide. They have set rates and most everything is included in that cost. Their costs are also some of the lowest that I found when searching for somewhere for him to live. I would not hesitate to put another family member there in the future. You will not be disappointed if you choose to put your loved one at this facility.

Wonderful facility for my mom

I found Franciscan through A Place For Mom. The home has a very homey and friendly atmosphere. The staff is kind to the residents and they treat family members just like long-time family friends. I feel comfortable having my mom at their facility knowing that she's getting the best care and great home cooking. She's happy with her surroundings and is always dressed and groomed. The owners have provided a floor mat alarm since my mom tends to wander at night due to her dementia. I'm very greatful for that. I wish I had known about this home several years ago so my mother could have enjoyed it more when the dementia was still mild. I enjoy the live music on the weekends when I'm visiting my mother. There are activities for the residents so they are busy doing things and socializing through the day.

A great place and is my number one choice, but mom is not a canadate for their place. Definitely family owned and has this feeling when you walk in as well as the staff. Talked with the "son" and he bent over backwards to see if it would work for my mom.

short on staff

The overall property is fine. I do not have anything I can compare it to. The facility is fine. They need more staff, their short handed. They are looking for more staff.

I really, really like the people that own it and run it.

I've had no problems, and I really, really like the people that own it and run it. I think it's a good place. We really liked the people we spoke to there, they owners are always there, and the staff were all nice. We liked the size and mindset, and the price. We liked that it's not owned by a corporation.

No place like home with assistance

Had a wonderful experience with Place for Mom. They helped us get my Mom into Franciscan Court. Mom loves this place and is very happy. Moving from an independent living facility to my home over the summer helped me determine that she really needed an assisted living environment. From touring several facilities 3 years ago for my grandmother, I remembered that my Mom liked this place. It is very clean, the staff is friendly and caring. The day we completed our intake paperwork, I witnessed a staff member taking time to calm a lady down who was having a panic attack. It was so sweet to see the staff hold her hand and tell her she will be ok. Mom also liked that it is a smaller facility than others we looked at. There is an atmosphere of family at the Franciscan.

Very Good Experience

Our experience was very good for the short period of time we were there. It is family owned, so we liked the smaller facility atmosphere. Everyone is kind of involved all around, having multiple jobs in the facility, so they really get to know you and that is a good thing.

This is a supportive living center and not appropriate. It really isn't assisted living. Ratio of care givers to residents is quite low.

Friendly and helpful staff!

They've been very accommodating and have done great in helping my mother with the transition.

Great decision for Mom and us.

I am so glad that we found Franciscan Court. At the time we were looking for a place for mom and we are exceptionally happy with our decision to have Mom so close to us.The staff are wonderful and the environment is exceptional.I believe this has given Mom a new outlook on her life. There are daily activities for everyone to participate in.There is always something going on at Franciscan Court. We are very lucky to have this jewel available in the Western suburbs.

Franciscan Court

Franciscan court is a very nice facility. For us, it is just the right size, about 70 residents. With just the right amount of activities that all are invited to attend. Its clean, bright, and friendly atmosphere makes us feel we made the right decision for our mother.

Neede a new home for Mom

Mom recently had an episode where she could no longer stay where she was living. Franciscan was one of the places recommended by A Place For Mom. It is a perfect fit for the level of care she currently needs. The staff have been great and I wish I would have found this place sooner for my Mom.

Good Facility

Overall the facility is a good place. They care about the patients and give undivided attention to each and every person. I dont really have any complaints.

I feel that my mother is receiving excellent care

I would rate Franciscan Court very highly. I was very pleased with the help I got from Erica and A Place For Mom. I feel that my mother is receiving excellent care, and plenty of people are involved in her care which we didn't realize.

No place like home, but Franciscan Court comes pretty close!

Mom has been here for a month and I couldn't be happier. Everyone had been very helpful in getting her into her new home quickly. It is a smaller facility and feel she's getting more individualized care than where we had to put her due to emergency situation just before Christmas. She has a beautiful studio apartment with her own furniture. The staff is very caring and all she has to do is press a button to get assistance when needed. If you choose they have a doctor, podiatrist and optometrist who make house calls. So, we don't have to try to transport her for medical needs. They take care of her medications. Basically, we have no worries. The fees including everything that is included are less than we had been paying for 24/7 care in her own home. They only thing additional we pay for is phone. Even cable is included! There are plenty of activities for those who are interested.

nice people, but I thought the rooms and the place were not homey and it looked like it needed an update. furniture looked worn, carpeting looked old. Bathrooms just had a sink and toilet and a curtain on a rod. No vanity very drab and uninviting. No rails in the hallways along the walls for residents to use if they needed it. Not much space in the hallways for gathering. TV room in main hallway very small. Menu was sparce. A sample of the weekly menue was given to me and every night for dinner sandwiches were served. I did not like that there were no other choices for meals, just what was on the menu and that there were assigned seating for every meal.

They have been great.

They have been great. I can't complain about them. It's clean, and the staff is friendly. They have really done everything they can do for her. It's a nice place.

Overall they are doing a pretty good job.

Overall they are doing a pretty good job. The staff is very friendly, and they have a good variety of activities. The meals would be a four. We really don't have any concerns. We liked the size it wasn't too big, that's one reason we chose them.

Overall they do a pretty good job.

Overall they do a pretty good job. They keep it very clean. The food could be a little better, perhaps. One of the reasons we picked them was because they had the medicaid certification. There really isn't anything else I can think of that should be done better or improved.

Problem Solving at Franciscan Court

Franciscan Court has the look and feel of a family run business, personal and homey. My Mom has dementia and needs to be cued to accomplish her activities of daily living. She was also in great need of socialization. Whenever I visit, Mom is clean, dressed in fresh clothing, and in good spirits. She had a rough transition when she first moved in and was constantly exit seeking. As Franciscan Court is not a locked facility, I really feared that they would not be able to keep her there, but the nursing staff continued to try different strategies and her exit seeking behaviors have settled down. Having dementia, Mom could benefit by having a more structured day than Franciscan Court is able to provide, but overall, my siblings and I are pleased with her care and feel she is safe there.

Very nice place

Overall we've really liked the service at Franciscan Court, they do a good job here! The facility itself is very nice looking, and always clean. The staff are all friendly and professional, and very caring and attentive when it comes to the residents. I notice it especially during meal times, they really make an effort to make sure everyone is taken care of!

THE APPARTMENT IS VERY NICE. THE PEOPLE ARE VERY FRENDLY. CNA'S DO THIER BEST FOR THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT THEY HAVE TO HELP. THEY NEED MORE ACTIVITIES FOR THE PEOPLE.
THE PHYSICAL THERAPY WENT RIGHT TO WORK TO HELP MAKE HER STRONGER AND ABLE TO DO MORE. THE FOOD IS GOOD. DINNING ROOM ALITTLE CRAMPED.

Not so great

Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing. There are far better options in the market.

Family place with heart

This is a family owned assisted (supportive) living facility where my parents lived for two full years. My parents had lived for 15 years in a retirement community in Arlington Heights but needed greater assistance due to physical decline and beginning stages of cognitive decline. Most assisted living facilities expect greater independence and my parents were at that in-between stage needing shepherding and loving support. Though a 40-minuted drive from my home, I couldn't have found a more caring and supportive environment. Owners and staff will go beyond expectations to engage the residents and take excellent care of them. The facility is comfortable and clean, not "gorgeous", but I will choose caring, clean and comfortable over gorgeous any day! It really is a home.

Rooms were laid out weird and pricey for what you get.

Beware

Beware! If you start out as private pay and then become Medicaid supported, personalities do change with the administration. If you are in a 1-bedroom, you will be asked to move to a studio apt. Activities are not very inspiring and your family member will be put at an assigned table for meals. This can result in some very upsetting moments for our elderly family members. We know this from 2+ years of living there (Our family member).

Other SLF(acilities) I have since toured for my family member look so much more welcoming and pleasant and do NOT require one to relocate their belongings and their home when they become 'supported' by Medicaid. Nor do they consider it right to assign seats to these senior citizens.

Be warned!....Much better choices are out there.

Disappointing experience

Our family member's first two years as a private pay resident were fine. Since FC is a 'Supportive Living' facility, our parent ran out of assets after two years, then had Medicaid assistance to help pay the rent. They were asked to move out of their 1-bedroom apt into a studio apt. I've discovered since, that other local SLF do not have this policy. That was a difficult time for our loved one.
Another issue I have is the assigned seating in the dining room. I suppose FC has their reasons for doing this but it is insulting to the residents who still have their faculties and extremely upsetting when they unexpectedly remove the resident and plop them at some other table. This practice denies them their freedom and treats them like children. The most recent places we have looked into do not do this to their residents.
After the initial switch to Medicaid support, and some minor health issues, the supportive 'attitude' of the administrators starts to change. There is an edge there that is not so friendly. They don't work so easily with you once you are not private pay. They are purely business oriented and I question their place as a SLF.
I have since visited other facilities in the area and wonder why we ever chose Franciscan Court.
My family member was recently discharged from their home at FC because they had to enter a rehabilitation center post surgery. The discharge experience was an ugly and hostile one, but now seeing the other options that exist in the area, we truly believe our family member will have a better life elsewhere.
Quite simply, in comparison, there's not much there. Staff personnel were great....admin.- NOT!

Very Caring and Personable

Very Good. I liked it because it was family owned, not a corportation. They're very caring there. They really get to know you but they're understaffed there. As far as caring for the people, they are more personable over there. You can really tell the difference between a family owned place and a corporation.

The only thing I don't like is they have the handicapped push button for the door but they never hooked it up so it was very difficult for me to manuever the door with my dad's wheelchair. That didn't make sense to me.

Great place!

What surprised me most when we walked into Franciscan Court in West Chicago, Illinois, was the lack of a urine smell. Considering the fact that this is an assisted living place, it gave us a good feeling immediately upon entering. Because all meals are served communally (meaning no more stoves left on, thank goodness), we quickly saw an improvement in my mother-in-law's faculties and attitude. It's a social place, which means she doesn't have to spend all her time in her own apartment, though she is free to. With the nurses on staff and the various doctors that come in regularly to meet with patients, we feel like she is getting the best of hospital and home living. The nurses inform us every step of the way whenever they spot something new...or old that is recurring. They are very attentive, and all the staff seems very serene (where I'm pretty jumpy), making for a very calm place for my mother-in-law ("MIL"). The walls are all different colors, very pretty, very vibrant, there are some beautiful pieces of furniture, yet I've been to nice places where each room is simply a teensy bedroom; the apartments in this facility are studios, but they have room for beds, a little sitting area, a kitchen table and a couple chairs, and the bathrooms are very, very large. The showers are walk-in, so there is no lip to interfere with trying to get in. They shower my MIL twice weekly (many other places only do so once weekly) and do laundry weekly. They keep the residents' cash in a safe, which they can come and get at any time. This saves all the losses and the cries of "someone stole my money," when they simply misplace their cash. The staff is helpful and supportive, the place is beautiful--with a lovely little koi pool to help with serenity, it's very clean and does not smell. All in all, it's a perfect place for a loved one.

This is a beautiful facility -- a strong possibility although some distance from us. Building opened for occupancy in Jan 2006. It is a supportive living facility rather than a nursing home. Beautiful apartments for the residents. CNA's would assist Mom with bathing, etc. in her own apt. rather than in a central shower area. Each resident gets a personalized care plan (only 70 residents in the building). Beautiful courtyard with a picturesque, secure walkway flanking a pond and waterfall. About $5K per month. RN's available 8 hours per day. Supportive living requires income of at least the amount provided by SSI -- Medicaid kicks in when resident qualifies. We would need to bring Mom's furniture. Dental care not provided -- she would need to be transported to a dentist in Winfield. Talked to three residents who seemed very happy with the facility. This place is more like an apartment complex than a nursing facility, but offers activities, religious services, etc. like a nursing home. Not a Catholic facility, but rosary offered every Thurs. and Mass once every 3 weeks or so. Family owned with very low staff turnover. Studio, 1 & 2 bedroom apts. 2 BR's are for resident and roommate, but each has separate BR with central LR, kitchentte, and bathroom. Very clean, attractive common areas also. Community room in basement for religious and other group activities. Personal items (e.g., toilet paper, incontinence supplies) must be supplied by family, but can be purchased by facility and billed directly by the pharmacy.
