Customer Reviews

They have many activities and the menu looks great. The grounds could use a face lift. So much wasted opportunity for lovely gardens and outdoor areas and things to do. The interior is looking run down.

People were friendly. But it was very run down in appearance. They have all that property and its overgrown. Carpeting looks like the original. It was a lovely building when it was new. I was there for an event. Very disappointing.

Flooring spots and trim looks worn and dated inside. Very clean though. Residents look happy.

Everything is fine.

I wouldn’t change in home services in any way. My caregivers are all very good. But [Removed] goes above and beyond what needs to be care.

Just not for me

I toured this community and it seemed nice and clean. Staff was helpful with any questions I had. I think they had good programs there. It was an older building and just wasn't inviting to me.

A good tour

This is a nice looking community. The people I met were nice. The rooms at this community were smaller than the ones at the community we chose.

Great Tour!!

I had recently taken a tour of this community for my sister and i have no complaints of how things had went for her. The staff where on time to our appointment and made sure to answer any questions I had for them in detail. I liked that they had a lot of great amenities for the residents as well as a spacious dinning experience. It was just not the right fit for us in the end decision.

Wonderful Community

My mother is doing great with her move to this community. It is a wonderful facility, and I'am pleased with her move here. She has adjusted very well to this community, and it has been a fabulous experience. The nursing is wonderful, I know she in receiving great care, and she is in good hands. The staff is very caring, and has been attentive towards my mother. I have nothing but good things to say about this community. I would highly recommend it.

Did not like the location of the memory care side

The grounds were lovely here flowers and plants everywhere with a lovely courtyard for sitting. The property inside was lovely very nicely decorated however I did not care for the fact the memory care unit was much different than the assisted living and independent living wings. The memory care unit had a basement feel to it the rooms were small and not as well lit as the other rooms. It almost gave the feel of a local institution.
The staff was friendly and helpful

Nice Lady!!

The lady that gave my loved and I a tour of this place was very friendly and had a lot of information to offer us about all of the great things they have to offer. She made sure to take her time and was very professional throughout our visit. The only thing I thought was that the building was a little bit older and there seemed to be a fowl odor in the memory care unit.

Needing A Better Introduction

My mother-in-law is doing good but in the beginning we were told that she would have someone show her around. No one came until we had already walked her around the community. They should take new residents to the activities, exercises, and card games to meet the residents and to get involved. The community is clean and the staff are providing good care. She likes the meals and activities.

Dad's Good Care

This is a nice community, and my tour of it went well. The community was nice, and clean. Everything appeared to be well maintained. The staff was friendly, and kind. The experience was a good one, and everything went well.

Good Tour, but to Expensive

Beautiful community!

When I toured The Fountains of Crystal Lake, it was a very nice place. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. They took me and showed me around the building, but I ended up finding a better fit for my mother.

Good Experience, Nice Facility

I had a pretty nice tour of this community. Everything went well. The community looked nice. From what I saw everything appeared to be well-kept. The staff I met was friendly, and nice. Everyone was kind to my family and myself. It was a nice experience, but I found a community that suited my father needs better.

No 2 BR units available in Independent. One in assisted living with mini-kitchen. 30-year old facility shows it's wear. Don't want 3 meals/day

I’m glad you contributed this review so I can clarify. Our community is almost always nearly full because of our reputation for compassionate care and great value. Our two-bedroom residences are popular and do go quickly. We do offer the option of a service plan with no meals and we are very flexible, entertaining other meal arrangements when an interest is expressed. We are a 30 year old community with a few faded spots here and there, but over and over we find people choose The Fountains for those reasons mentioned above and many more. I encourage you to come in for a visit and I’d be happy to join you for a coffee or lunch to discuss. Sincerely, Michael Gamache Executive Director

Good Tour, Everything Went Well

I toured this community for my aunt and her needs. My tour went pretty well. The community looked nice and neat. Everything was well maintained. Everyone was very kind to my family and myself. It was a nice experience, but it wasn't the community for my aunt and her needs.

Care and comfort for my mom

I like this community for good care for my mom. The staff is very friendly. It appears that the food is very good. I am happy with the room that was given to her and it is beautiful. I found that the residents knew each other and it felt so comfortable. I would recommend the great and comfortable care that is given here with a good value for other families.

The meals served are a little bland!

The community at The Fountains of Crystal Lake have been very welcoming. They provided a house warming party when our loved one arrived which included family and friends. Our loved one really is enjoying The Fountains. Everyone is very friendly and caring. If meals are missed they call the residents to ensure they are okay. Our loved one is enjoying the exercise class, bingo, and bridge. The community needs some updating and they are currently working on painting the outside. The community could improve the meals by serving fresh vegetables and fresh food options versus canned food. We would like to see a more private space for family gatherings when family wants to have a get together at the community.

Not Comparable To My Last Residence

I am now staying at this community and so far it is going well. I have housekeeping come to my apartment once a week and she washes my sheet too. The staff are very helpful, happy, and informative, they say "Hello" every time they see me and answer any question if I call them. There are activities available like exercising class that I enjoy. A local library sends me books once a month based on what I like. My only complaint is the food, it does not taste good to me and the options are limited. I also don't like the assigned seating in the dinning room, I thought people could mingle during meal time.

need better WiFi

Everything is going fine at The Fountains of Crystal Lake. One complaint I hear is that they need better WiFi. Her iPad freaks out a lot there. She also says the meals are too close together. She is quite happy though. We haven't run into any issues really. Every time I've been there everything is really clean. She does say the activities should be spaced out a little more. Other than that everything is going good here.

No Communication, No Concern, Lots of Indifference

I was not at all happy with the communication or service regarding my father. He moved in to assisted living June 1, 2015. There was never an attempt or response to getting to know the family. Unfortunately, he was admitted to the hospital August 1, 2015 and passed away on the 8th. The nursing staff never contacted either the family or hospital with regard to his condition or status. They were completely uninvolved and unconcerned about one of their residents--completely opposite of Brookdale Senior Living, where he resided before The Fountains.
During this week, two of my sisters went to his apartment to retrieve legal documents and were accompanied by a nurse. The next day, a staff member contacted our attorney stating that "His family was ransacking his apartment". HUH? Talk about poor communication--it exists among themselves as well apparently.
After his passing, I contacted the Executive Director and never got a call back. When my husband and I went to clean his apartment, a nurse came by to ask if we were moving. HUH? There was not one word of condolence, a card sent, not one iota of communication. EVER. I couldn't believe it. I still can't. Funny thing was, I DID hear from staff at Brookdale Senior Living after his passing. They put up a picture--he had a full page in the Business section of the Chicago Sun-Times, to announce the loss. What a difference! Those are people who really cared and were genuinely concerned and reached out in a heartfelt way. So contrary to the coldness and indifference of The Fountains.

tremendous job

At the Fountains of Crystal Lake caregivers don't respond as quick for mom as she would like them to. However I am very pleased. I think they do a tremendous job. Any place is going to have a few things they could improve on. Mom would like more one on one care. But overall we are very pleased with this facility.

Very friendly and knowledgeable

They were very friendly and knowledgeable. They helped with trying to make the transition go easier. They welcome tourers and let us view the room. They offered us a meal. They also gave us a list of things that you can bring to make transition easier. The biggest thing they helped us with was the nursing. There was about 5 different activities but my loved one wasn't able to participate in them at that moment.

It was really nice

It was really nice, but it was mostly all studios, not very many one bedrooms. It felt more like a nursing home. It seemed like there was a lot of things to do such as activities and games. I went at lunch time and the food looked and smelled good but I did not have the time to try the food.

Like Walking Into A Nice Hotel

Staff is very helpful and nurse gives updates on residents. Meals are very good and lots of choices. Facility is kept clean and smells good, like walking into a nice hotel. I am very happy and feel care is above the value.

Caring Staff and Great Value

This is a great community where the staff really cares about the residents. We considered two other places and found this to be the best value overall. The family is very pleased and Dad is acclimating very well to this setting.

Review of The Fountains of Crystal Lake - Crystal Lake, IL

My mom moved to The Fountains in May. She really didn't want to make a move but needed extra help with healthy eating and reminders to take her medications. She has made so many new friends. She loves it because she can do things when she wants to. She loves going to Dave's strength training class. She talks about it all the time. It makes me happy that she's happy!

Review of The Fountains - Crystal Lake, IL

I can't express enough how thankful I am to have found this community for "My Dad". The staff is outstanding everyone from the front desk to maintenance. The care that is given to my father is exceptional. The maintenance dept is over the top as far as responding.

Adult Day Care option

My husband has Alzheimer's and when I began looking The Fountains was the only place that offered Adult Day Care in a secure facility. Actually they had not started the Day Care program but soon after I asked I got a call saying they were starting. Why other long term care facilities do not offer Adult Day Care is difficult to understand. I would imagine most people that would take advantage of the Adult Day Care option would eventually become full time residents.
When I drop him off I the morning I know that he is safe and that he will be offered a meal and will be cared for during the time he is there. I can get shopping done, get my Dr. visits done and once in a while get my hair done. When I pick him up in the afternoon he is relaxed and I am as well. Any good relationship needs space and it is even more true when one is a caregiver and one is the recipient of the care.
There are other places that offer Adult Day Care but he is used to the staff and they know him and that is just as important as cost.
With the help of the staff and the staff at Journey Care Hospice I intend to keep my husband at home but if I can't I am comfortable knowing that he will be well cared for if he needs to become a full time resident.

Best pricing overall, and the most options for living arrangements.

Like a large hotel

You walk in and it looks like a hotel, a very large entry foyer. We didn’t see any of the rooms or any of the residents. We saw one atrium with like five women sitting around having some kind of discussion exercise. It was very clinical. The person who did our orientation – the initial sales representative – was very uninformed. The guy at the receptionist desk was kind of checked out.

Very nice place!

We were very pleased with the service here! My loved one was here for quite a while before needing to look into other options. The facility itself was very nice, and always clean, and the caregivers that were provided were outstanding.

This is an older community....

This is an older community. They would have liked to put Mom in assisted living on the third floor. Not a small enough setting and reminded us of an older hotel instead of a warm setting. Paula was excellent but would not be a first choice.

It's good so far.

It's good so far. I was very impressed with the people there very responsive, and cheerful. She complains a little about the variety of the food. They have a vegetable garden and it's bright with a lot of windows with some natural light.

Fabulous

I cannot say enough about the immediate positive impact The Fountains has had on my Mother-In-Law, therefore us! Paula Hauck is a gift to Watermark. Her patient, caring manner made us feel positive about this community as our choice. She is an angel. She was not pushy, was very informative and extremely kind. Every visit, from the first tour all the way through preparing my MIL's apartment, I never once heard anything negative from the residents or workers. Everyone seemed so happy there. (I thought, "Could this really be? I know it's not for show because I witnessed just regular interactions while I was alone there.) Then the staff - Dave Fennell, amazing, Tracy - Nurse, fabulous - and the rest of the staff is terrific. My Mother-In-Law was having a very hard time due to her dementia. The first couple days were a little rough. She was scared, wasn't going to eat, didn't want to see anyone, was not happy because people kept making her go downstairs for meals, hated getting up early, would never find her way around - but after that, every day was an improvement. On the 8th day, she kept talking about how good the food was, where she liked to sit in the dining room, the people she met! On the 9th day, she said how she set her alarm so she wouldn't miss anyone at breakfast! I noticed on her calendar, on the square for December 27th, she had written "Beautiful, sunny day". And now she is going to events, won at bingo and wants to learn to crochet! OMG! How wonderful!!!!
A Place For Mom guided us through this whole process. And The Fountains of Crystal Lake has been wonderful beyond our expectations! They have given us peace of mind. If my Mother-In-Law had any idea of how this all occurred, I know she would say Thank You for a happy rest of her life.

Elderwerks Review

I visited The Fountains in October and found the employees pleasant and helpful. The apartment I visited was clean.

I was very excited at first. My contact with Paula was wonderful She was very understanding, kind and helpful. However, once my relative moved-in, I did see another side of The Fountains. There was definitely a lack of communication, both internally ( management, nurse and cna's) and externally(doctors and myself). It took some time and effect to get things smoothed out. (Details of which I will not go into), I feel better now, but I still have to stay on top of things. Honestly, I think that is something they are not used to. I have the feeling that most families do not get too involved once their relative moves in.
I do have to admit this is my first experience with assisted living facilities so it is hard to rate them without the knowledge of how other facilities operate.

Spacious Rooms and Wonderful People

It's a little bit bigger of a place. The place is so big that I could walk down an entire hallway without running into a person. I call them blocks because they're really long. The rooms there were three times, maybe four times, as big as another place we looked at. My mom's just got a small room there. It's a studio and I think they said it was 16x22 so we were able to fit her double bed, a couch, a couple of dressers, and she has a little mini kitchen that she doesn't have to share. It's much more spacious.

There is just one issue. She's been there a month and half and they still do not have her front door fixed. People, other residents, just walk into her room because the door does not lock even though it's supposed to. I'm not happy with the security level there is the main issue.

The people that work there are just wonderful, very courteous.

No Issues At All!

My mother wasn't happy with the food there but I think that was just her. It was a very nice facility. I never had any issues there at all, we just relocated. Thier staff was very nice.

Really Nice, Lots of Activities

They were very nice there. A little on the pricey side but very nice. There were lots of activities and things going on. Unfortunately, my mom has dementia so she can't really partake in a lot of stuff, which is kind of a bummer.

Annoying Administrator

I didn't like it. It was very expensive and the administrator seemed pretty annoying.

Lots to do

We chose this community because it was recommended by Lauren at A Place for Mom. It has lots of activities for the residents. The community is very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall it is just a great community that we are pleased with.

This facility was very nice...

This facility was very nice as well but a little too far for me to travel on a daily basis. I think we could get something nice within his budget.

Return Customers

We chose this community over the 4 others we looked at because of previous experience with it when my mother was living here years ago and because it was the best value for the price. My mother had just had such a good experience here we decided to use The Fountains again, but this time for my mother in-law. The rooms are more spacious then other comparable communities especially for the price. They have plenty of activities but it is up to the residents to participate and get involved. The community is surrounded by trees and they get really thick around back. With it being surrounded by trees it really secludes the community in a very good way because it keeps it nice and quiet. The food is pretty good at least that is what I am told, which is a very good thing. You really get what you pay for and even a little more. We would recommend The Fountains to anyone looking for a community.

Has the third floor designated as assisted living. Strictly private pay.

Wouldn't be a choice - Olde...

Wouldn't be a choice - Older facility, dark except for walkway to dining hall. Big facility, concerned about integration of Mom to the rest of the population - wasn't discussed. Exterior doors left open during the day which caused a security concern. Not a requirement to check in and out when leaving the site. States 'Smoke Free' in details but were told they had a resident 'grandfathered in' - smelled smoke in the commons areas (library) and hallway on 2nd floor. Laundry facilities need to be updated and salon located in the basement was dingy and you could see the trash/lost and found area - doors were left open. Route 31 is a very busy highway with no stoplight, so big concern for residents pulling in and out of facility. Only other feedback is she told us she would be happy to take a $3,000 deposit that day to hold an apartment. This also turned us off to the facility --- shouldn't that be discussed at a later time or at least the 2nd visit?

Went to this location today. The location used to be a country club. 7 different dinner choices. 3rd floor is for assisted living with additional dinning area.
