A la carte menu for services

This review is based on first impressions from a personal tour. This community has a unique layout more like senior housing than memory care. I met the head nurse and several staff members. I really liked Sunrise and would have considered this community more if they were closer to my home and had been able to administer his insulin medication. I didn't care for their a la cart pricing for services. I would highly recommend other families tour this community.

My father's good care

I am very happy with the care that my father is receiving at this community. We like that the staff is very helpful. The community appears to always be clean and a nice environment. My dad is liking the nice variety of meals. They offer him activities. This community comes highly recommended for the care and the value of a loved one.

Beautiful facility with the hotel/resort type. There are lots of activities for residents. This is a high end senior living place.

My visit

I would have liked to move mom into this community. It seemed to be a very active community. They have volunteers that come in and they have a community dog. This community however was a little out of our price range and farther away from family.

Very Pleased with This Community

I'am very pleased with my husbands move to this community. Everything is working out very well, and he is doing well. They are taking very good care of him, and his needs. The staff is great. They have been caring, helpful, and very friendly. They offer tons of activities for the residents. I've some of the food, and the meals are nice. He is pleased with food. This is a community I would recommend, it is the right fit for my husband.

Community was not as bright as we were expecting.

The staff was very welcoming and helpful during our tour. They answered our questions and were very friendly. The community is only 8 years old but it seemed darker and not as well maintained as we expected. The room they showed us was not what were looking for.

Our Options

After touring possible communities we did not think this was the best fit for us. The normal staff, the physical environment, and the cost were equal factors to our end decision. They gave a good tour and they were able to provide accurate details about the community.

Sunrise of Frisco

We are pleased with the way things have turned out here. The staff here is very caring, friendly, and professional. The facility itself is also clean and well kept. Overall I think they do a good job at Sunrise of Frisco, it's a top notch place.

We found this to be a nice community when we did a quick tour. We did get our questions answered on the care that is given here. We were not able to see the menu at this time. They have activities that are offered. This community might be a good choice for families after knowing what is an available here for a family member needing care.

My home care

I am very happy here with this community. The staff is very caring and helpful. The food is the right amount when served. I do think some small improvements could be made to be more like home cooking. I like the clean environment, of living here. I highly recommend this community to other families for good care and value.

Sunrise at Frisco . The staff was nice and helpful and answered questions for us. . I think that they would of made more friends with what we felt from another community at this time. They did have activities for those who wanted to participate and stay active . We would recommend this community for good care and value .

The place was very nice. Gail was very helpful. The price was in my range. I will go back and look again when I finish my first round of looking.

We like this community!

My parents seem to like living at Sunrise. The staff do a pretty good job and go out of their way to get to know each of the residents needs. They seem to like the food and they have plenty of choices. The community is clean and well taken care of. They offer a lot of activities. I would recommend this community.

Mom seems to like living at Sunrise!!

They offer 3 to 4 daily activities at this community. My mom is still adjusting to living here. The cost is a concern for us. Mom likes most of the food and they offer an alternative menu. They have a very good level of care and the staff are good at communication.

Review of Sunrise of Frisco - Frisco, TX

The public areas are very upscale. The exterior has several courtyards. The rooms are dark. The long narrow room layout was disappointing.

Good experience, so far!

My loved one has only been here a short time, but so far our experience has been a very positive one! He's settled in very well, and he says the other residents all seem very friendly! The facility is clean and well kept, and the staff I've spoken with have all been friendly and professional.

Unhappy experience

I have a family member in memory care with Sunrise going on six months now. They are in great health with only memory/ dementia problems. The care givers seem to truly care about my family member and always kindly call them by name. The food seems to be good with a wide variety to choose from. There always seem to be activities going on. My family member is always clean and seems to be well cared for I can't complain.
My challenge has been with the pharmacy they use and the administration of meds, the nursing staff and administration.
Moving in we were unaware that my family member did not have Medicare coverage for pharmacy. We had two family members pass away last Spring and so caring for our loved one just fell in our lap. We didn't even have a Medicare card or Ss card on our loved one.

We were told by Christy we needed to use their omnicare pharmacy when we signed the paperwork due to convenience. ( we see now it's convenient only for sunrise at our expense) The first two months together were $1400 dollars for 3 meds.
I immediately (in person with my bill) contacted the nursing staff in memory care because contacting the doctor was next to impossible. We had no direct phone number and apparently he lives out of state
I advised the nurse in person that we wanted to be removed from this pharmacy. Another month of bills came we were not removed. I again called and spoke directly with Stacie the nurse there on Sunday's and we were assured it would be taken care of. Another month of bills came. ( my family member takes only 3 meds and has no significant health issues besides dementia and memory loss.
Finally I contacted Christy on a Saturday 4 months after my initial request to be removed....and then was kindly assured Cheryl the administrator would call me on the following Monday. No call. I finally called her extremely unhappy the following Thursday.
I decided to go in and discuss in person the ordeal. She assured me they were sorry and would reimburse me on my next bill. She did take $800 off my next sunrise bill. I was so happy.
Then The next week I was phoned by the nurse Jana over how my new chosen pharmacy should be packaging the medications ( because they didn't like the way they fit into their medicine cart and were hard to dispense) I was told they had to be in bubble wrap which later I determined was a blister pack (which very few pharmacies do on ALL medications) i was told in the conversation with Jana. "I have 100 patients to worry about and using this other pharmacy is taking too much time." She said all refills we MY responsibility and also announced they were going up on our bill from a med level two to a med level three.... Seemed much like in spite of the pharmacy change. I was so upset.
She said she would not be responsible for letting me know when my loved one needed anything from the pharmacy it was ALL up to me. And also I would be responsible for moving the RX from the old pharmacy to the new one. Which I had been assured by Cheryl would be done by the person who oversees the pharmacy omnicare at Sunrise. I was misinformed.

I later after talking to my loved ones physician after three phone calls to get a good working phone number. I found out and by talking to a pharmacist directly....a doctor is THE ONLY Person that can transfer a script in this situation. Nurses and admin. again misinformed me
My family was just trying to get by with applying for Medicare part D (which you can't do until October to dec and ONLY if you are a representative on their Social security account which is a another challenge in itself)

Conclusion: Sunrise was not helpful.... misinformed us and did not care about our problem. One month later Cheryl sent us a notice of a price increase of $400 a month of overall fees. . Seems like retribution to me.
Since my complaint I've had papers not given to her doctor that I've dropped off. A residency form taking a week to get and not dated or notarized by April. And continued grief about the pharmacy.
It will teach me to never complain again. We are shopping for a better place. Without people working against us.

My parents moved to Sunrise in October. The employees are friendly and the care managers are very nice and helpful. My mother has a muscle disease and is in a wheelchair with limited mobility. She says she is getting the best care she has ever had there. The only complaint my parents have is the food. Either not very good or cold when they get it.

this was good property if assisted living was needed. no further follow up.

New prices that just went to effect were a little higher than we hoped. Otherwise, it was a nice property with friendly staff. Residents seemed VERY happy. Room sizes were good too. The staff seemed very involved. It's in the opposite direction of my job and my brothers job so that is a drawback also. Kristi was super sweet.

It has been a pretty good experience

Overall, it has been a pretty good experience. My dad has only been there a couple of months. Everyone is friendly. It's always clean. Everyone is nice and helpful. I would recommend this place.

Made two visits - did not like the living environment. The caregivers were 'sitting' and not 'caring' for the residents in our opinion.

4 Levels of Care

This facility was nice. Memory Care was on the second floor. I found this unusual, but there was an open patio. This was similar to Sunrise Plano but smaller and the residents didn't seem overall as active. I really liked that the semi-private room had it's own door and only shared the bathroom space.
As much as I liked this place, unfortunately a BIG drawback was the 4 levels of care and the extra price for medication management based on how many meds taken including over the counter meds. It was hard to determine exactly what price to expect based on their brochures but it was easy to tell that it could be very expensive no matter what. I also worry about how good the care really might be if they are always trying to determine which level is needed which can fluctuate with someone needing memory care.

Top Floor Memory Care

Something about this place that I didn't like is that they had the memory care on the top floor of the building. They do have outside patio area but not access to the outside to walk or have that kind of freedom. It's a smaller facility and it's on Legacy which is real busy so the traffic was horrendous.

Too Pricey

This place was expensive. We managed to find something that was a smaller, homey place (which is what my parents were wanting) for a better price.

Not thrilled

My mother in law has been at Sunrise Frisco for nearly a year. She started out in Assisted Living and has been moved to Memory Care. To this day....we have no idea who is really running this place. You rarely get a call returned and we have yet to get a written explanation of current charges and depending on who you ask...some things are included....yet you find out later they are not.
They keep this place extremely warm and humid. I understand the older clientele would be more comfortable at warmer temperatures....however the humidity level is not healthy and with a little bit of money that could be addressed. I am not quite sure that anyone in the Memory Care unit has special training in how to deal with those with memory loss. For of their era is known to be soothing...but they can't seem to afford to have any. Many of her items have disappeared...which doesn't surprise me in Memory Care....however the lack of concern in locating them is angering me. Two items are her wedding value of about $20,000. She NEVER took them off. Someone had to have asked her to remove them...but what is VERY frustrating is NO feedback on trying to locate them. Earrings and silver pieces have also disappeared. You can certainly understand how items get mixed up in an area where there are Alzheimer's patients...however...very strange that they are all things of value. I have addressed with them several times that when they do laundry they ruin her clothes and/or they do not get returned to her. I have returned many items....including sheets that are placed in her room that are not hers. They often appear AGAIN in the next day or so....and I return them AGAIN! At this point I will be looking for somewhere to move her to that is more attentive.
They always seem to be having meetings...whether you are visiting or trying to reach someone on the phone. I don't know what they are doing in the meetings....because NOTHING positive is being
accomplished! I have also seen many meals they serve....not appetizing. Not nice fresh fruit and vegetable. Meat cooked to a nondescript color. I have also communicated with them many times that they need to feed her lower calorie healthy meals because she has gone from a size 8 to a size 14 while living there....To no avail. There are several who work there....the concierges mainly who are good at what they do and the activities coordinator....the rest...I'm not quite sure what they do. They certainly don't communicate with the families which includes returning phone calls! It has potential....but apparently there is NO leader!
