Too Many cookies - get evicted

They are threatening to kick and 83 year old resident out for eating too many cookies at an event and for not leaving a meeting for residents who get a subsidy. Apparently other tenants and guests have been treated very poorly - the Washington Post wrote about them today [removed]

Nice but expensive

Overture in Fair Ridge Hit All the Right Notes!

This senior apartment complex is very comfortable for my widowed father. It is much larger and more comfortable than he expected.

The social aspect of the community has helped him engage with others and even though it is not assisted or independent living, the amenities are amazing.

I have no regrets

I moved here about 11 months ago and I am happy. Like anywhere else it is not 100% perfect all of the time. But I have ran my own business for 52 years and this one is doing a great job. The Manager makes herself available if you need to talk and her team works very hard too. The place is clean, the office is open when it is supposed to be and we have lots to do if we want to take part. My home is prettier than anywhere I have ever lived before and I am proud to be here. I received my renewal letter today. I was happy to see that they aren't charging me an arm and leg if I want to stay. Some of my neighbors can be crotchety but it is 62 and older. On the plus side I don't live with college kids partying or listen to screaming babies all night long. So it is give and take. Bottom line is this is a good place. It isn't cheap but nothing in Fairfax County is cheap.

It REALLY is a great place.

I am 67 and lost my husband a long time ago. Socializing is something that I have struggled with since "dating" is not my interest. This is a really nice place to be around people without any pressure. It is also a really nice place to stay in my home and not be bothered! The apartments are beautiful and I just live now. I don't have to worry about grass, cleaning gutters, trees falling and rising property taxes.
There have been some staff changes which people like to mention online. But none of the staff have ever been unkind or unprofessional. So I am not sure what that matters. The little girl running the place now is working hard for us every day. Most of us really appreciate the effort that we see.
We are supposed to have Continental Breakfast but she really is giving us more than that now. Everything is already cooked and tasty. It just needs heated which is fine because we are capable adults. Besides it feels kinda like family with everyone heating their food and working together in the mornings. Before, people got their "quick food," ate and disappeared.
I will say that this is not the cheapest show in town but there is real value. At my age I have found that you usually get what you pay for. I could stay a Bargain Motel when I travel because it is cheap but I don't. So why would I pick the cheapest home?

Having second thoughts

Have lived here 10 months. Lots of turnover among staff/management. Swimming pool has been closed since July 13...lots of excuses from management but no resolution and no sign it will reopen any time soon. Totally unacceptable as this is one of the few 'amenities' I take advantage of.

Overture is a different type of community from an independent living situation. It is more an apartment type environment wiht continental breakfasts, activities and many community events. You still have to pay utilities and there was no dinner plan except there were dinnertime socials with appetizers. It does have underground parking and an outdoor pool. The staff was very nice.

We enjoyed learning about this community. It a nice middle ground between retirement communities and independent living. They have monthly themed activities. Complimentary breakfast every morning. Nice outside pool and hot tub. A wonderful landscape as well as a planting plots.

Toured in August. [Name removed] was very nice. The Community has invited me to several activities. They do not offer assisted living. The distance is too long from where I know the neighborhood. They called today and I told them to remove my name from her list.

[Removed] had the day off. [Removed] filled in and took me on a tour of the place and showed me 3 different apts. It is a brand new place and only at 5% filled to date. Price was to high for me. Plus she said I would have to pay for all utilities (Gas, water, electricity) Parking garage and storage bins were also extra. It had all the amenities anyone would want. A very lovely place for someone with a little more money. Location was good . 785 sq ft (1 bedroom)went for $2,136 plus utilities and that was very small.
