Customer Reviews

We had to move my father back into our home. His back account was emptied constantly, due to staff taking cash for services that are supposed to be included, according to the lease agreement. When this was brought up to management they filed an unfounded adult protective services claim. APS recommended that we file a fraud complaint. They even provided us the contact info for the complaint.
I wouldn't recommend ANYONE to this place, ever.

I would consider other places besides this one

We came to Garden Estates to visit several times with my mom. Her health was declining and unable to stay alone. Based on our several visits my family and I agreed this would be a perfect match for my mom.

When they did the assessment they way this certain person was introduced she was a nurse. Later I found out she is not a nurse but med tech who is the Director of the Med Room. My mom had multiple problems with her heart and lungs and had to be on oxygen full time. She had many medications which she knew exactly what she should be taking and what they look like. She was the type you just don't hand her a pile of pills and she takes them. She caught several times they weren't giving her the right medications consistently.

With heart problems you are on a restricted diet of low sodium. Mom loved the food in the dinning room. I had dinner with her several times and after eating my mouth would be dried out like I had been sucking on sunflower seeds. In one month my mom gained 40 pounds which was fluid. Here we go to the hospital to have fluid removed.

Mom was in the hospital almost two weeks. When I brought her back her caregiver made her feel good about getting back to her apartment. But the Director of the med room was no where to be found. Mom's medication had been changed and I needed to speak to the Director of the Med Room and the Director of the Center I also wanted to speak to the Chef in the dinning room to discuss low sodium options for my mom. Eventually we all sat down for a meeting but nothing changed after that meeting.

My mom's health continued to decline but the caregivers never told me how much she had declined. She was having a lot of trouble breathing at night. They would also have to have her stand up to take her medication. BUT not one time did anyone let me know what was going on. So here we go back to the hospital this time she was in the hospital for 3 weeks.

When my mom was discharged from the hospital she went on hospice. Which was hard decision to make for your loved one, especially your mom. I notified the Director of the Med Room that mom was on hospice. She tried to talk me into going with another hospice company and even brought me a written name and number to my mom's room. Which I thought was unprofessional and inappropriate considering we are distraught over my mom's health and welfare.

Eventually I was spending nights with mom and I really got to see what was going on behind the scenes. One night the med tech brought mom her meds and she asked to see them like she did every time and her lasix were not the right dosage. We asked to see the MARS and it was written wrong! Mom had gained 10 pounds of fluid within a few days. So you understand how important a resident medications is dispersed correctly. Here we go back to the hospital to have fluids removed.

At this point I was so upset with the Director of the Center and Director of the Med room my family decided to move my mom back home. She was requiring more and more care and I honestly didn't have trust in these people to care for my mom. I was told they had a nurse on staff which I found out they did NOT. I gave our 30 day notice to vacate.

My mom passed 2 weeks after coming home. We still had a few things we needed to take out of my mom's apartment. I came to pick up a few things and walked up to an unlocked door and when I walked in a painter was in there painting. There was a trash bag with a few of my mom's things. I was overwhelmed with emotions I don't really know what I said or did but I know it wasn't pretty. We are still missing the monitor she used to report her pacemaker.

So was our experience good.. NO Do they provide good care... if your self sufficient and care for yourself.

Looking back we had red flags and we should have ran from the very beginning.

Rooms are nice and facility is clean

My Mother and I toured this facility a few times before we decided to move all of her things. My mom kept changing her mind on what she wanted to take and [Removed] was nice enough to give us a tour three separate times. She was extremely patient with us. The rooms were really nice and overall it was a very clean facility. We did have a few maintenance issues while we were moving her things in and when we turned those in they were fixed. I would recommend this facility to other families.

Terrible food & dining service

The food is inedible. Literally not fit to eat. It is not just tasteless or bad tasting. The weekly menu doesn't match the daily offering. The printed daily offering doesn't match what they bring out. The portions are ridiculously small. And it tastes like slop. My mother has made good friends there but the number 1 complaint is that they cut corners on food and don't care to improve or respond to resident or family concerns. These fine seniors pay WAAAAAY too much not to get good food and good service! Shame on you, Garden Estates of Temple!

To Kill a Mockingbird

I have visited this property MANY times. I have been more pleased these last few times I've made unannounced appearances. I was on site when they had a small fire in one of the rooms.
I was aghast when Employees rushed to rescue the bird in a cage from the lobby but left residents to fend for themselves. I was floored. I was viewing my worst nightmare in real time. Their meager hourly wage was not enough to massage their hearts into action. Residents were screaming, begging for assistance. I was able to pull, push, or pair up weaker residents with healthier ambulatory residents or visitors so they could find their way to fresh air.
The heavy hallway doors had closed to prevent or lessen smoke and fire from reaching other areas.'s my big butt, and it's a BIG ONE...non-ambulatory residents (bed ridden, wheelchair bound, walker dependent, and those with oxygen tanks) were unable to pull, push, or navigate them in any way. They were trapped.

Care for mom

This is a good community for excellent care. The staff are attentive and caring to her needs. There is a good variety of meals on the menu that she is enjoying. The activities have been helpful for her to stay active. We would recommend this community for the care of other families and there loved one.

Pleasant Tour Overall

We had a very nice tour of this community. It was a good experience. Everyone was very kind to my husband, and I. The community looked good, everything we saw looked well maintained. The staff was polite, and informative. Everything went well, and our went was a pleasant one.

My opinion

This community had smaller rooms and seemed to be more suited for assisted living. We were looking for a more independent active community. The community looked clean and the person that took us on tour was nice.

Thank you for sharing your review! While we're disappointed that we weren't the best fit for your family, we are very pleased that you enjoyed your visit with us!

I am satisfied with things at this community.

So far dad seems to be doing well at Garden Estates. The staff are caring and taking good care of him. He seems to like the food and they use fresh fruits and vegetables from a local market. Dad is making friends. The community appears to be clean. They post daily activities and they do have an exercise class, however I feel the activities are geared more towards the independent living residents. I would recommend this community at this time.

Lifestyle with a Flair

Pet Friendly, very well maintained. Staff is well trained and very friendly. Rooms are well laid out but small for rent charged and have little storage areas. Only drawbacks that I can see are that only cable service is offered instead of Comcast, Dish or Direct TV. One community computer but no printer for residents. Heating and Cooling room units are noisy and leave hot and cold spots in room. The Activities planned by the staff keep the interests of the residents involved and excited about being involved. This is probably one of the premiere senior communities in Temple and is very homey.

Great for Level 1 and up care.

Staff is first class and very friendly. Food is nutritious and tasty. The only drawback is the level of help to get settled after the move in. Hanging pictures, connecting TV's etc.
Very little storage space and HVAC is loud and temperature is not even throughout the unit.. Transportation by the community is good. Security is good. Grounds are well kept. Some of staff smoking outside. Recommend a smoke free campus for safety and health.

Caring for mom

We toured this community and my mom did not feel like this would be big enough community. they had a chef and a nice menu. They had a lot of great activities. This was too big for my mom. The staff were very nice and caring to what we were looking for. I would suggest families see this community for the care and value.

Nice Community, My Tour Went Well

I had a good tour of this community. Everything went well, and I'am was pleased. Everyone was kind and friendly. From what I saw everything looked nice, and well-kept. They treated us very well, my tour with well. It just wasn't the community for my friend and her needs.

Continuing to be Impressed

I continue to be pleasantly surprised with all the features Garden Estata provides. But the best feature is the friendly, caring staff. We have been treated royally. I have full confidence in having my mom be a part of this community.

I was ready to move in!!

I was set to move into this community when a new employee called me and let me know I had to pay for their medical insurance or I could not move in. I did not move in there due to this issue. The community was nice and I was looking forward to moving in. The food was good and there were nice size rooms.

Overall we have been happy.

Great job!

After my father died, my mother had become somewhat anti-social...She has been a resident of Garden Estates for a little over a month now, and she is beginning to participate in some of the activities available. The staff here are the most friendly folks I have ever met....From Sandy and Judy in the admin. offices to Christi at the front desk, they seem more like family and have always tried to make Mom feel at home...I saw Judy sitting out front the other day with a resident, just visiting and watching the birds...How many front office folks have you seen take that time with residents?... The Med staff is always helpful and the housekeeping and Chef are all great!...Great food!!!...facility is always clean and does not smell bad like some places I have visited...Overall this has been a good experience and has given me more peace of mind that Mom is well taken care of when I am not available.

Friendly, attentive care staff!

They do a fantastic job at Garden Estates of Temple, we are very happy with how things have turned out! The staff here are friendly and professional, and they seem to be very well organized. They're able to provide each resident with a great deal of one on one personal attention! The facility itself is well kept and clean, and they have a lot to provide to the people who live here!

It is a warm, cheerful place

When my mom & stepdad began searching for assisted living, they heard good things about Garden Estates of Temple from friends who had relatives in this facility. So they toured it, and later brought some of us kids to see it as well. We were impressed with what we saw and heard, so our parents got on the waiting list. They have lived here in assisted living for over a year now. They enjoy the three meals a day, weekly housekeeping and other amenities of assisted living.
It is close to their former neighborhood so friends can still visit them, and it's close to the hospitals that they have gone to for years. They have made friends here, and it's a cheerful place for relatives and friends to visit.
The staff is wonderful, and each takes their job seriously. They leave no doubt in my mind that my parents and all the residents are given the best of care. The nurses and aides are caring, the dining room staff and chef are top-notch, housekeeping and maintenance do a super job, and the adminstrative staff are always ready to answer questions and help in any way.
I would recommend Garden Estates of Temple to anyone needing assisted living. It is a warm, cheerful place.

Keep up the good work

My wife and I are extremely satisfied with the whole package. Our mother/mother-in-law is very pleased with her accomodations, and treatment by management and staff. Victoria Bryant and Judy Grayson have been a real pleasure to work with, and the staff is friendly, alert, and comforting. We have recommended the facility to several people.

Overall, we are very pleased with Garden Estates!

We have been very pleased with Garden Estates, and I am very glad that my mother is there. The environment is clean, up-to-date, and elegant yet still remains warm and inviting. The overall atmosphere is warm and friendly. Everyone, both staff and residents, are friendly, helpful, and nice. The food is great; we have eaten there with my mother on several occasions. My mother is becoming more active and social every day and looks healthier after only one month. The price is comparable to other retirement/assisted living homes in the area. The most important element for me, however, is that all of the residents appear to be happy.

The best

I couldn't have found a better place for my mother. She spent several years there before she passed away. She received the most wonderful care. At the end, my mother belonged in a nursing home because of the level of care she required, but they never even suggested that she move. Hospice came in at the end and assisted in my mother's care right there at Garden Estates. They were absolutely wonderful. I can't thank them enough for the wonderful care she received.

My reflections

I have met a whole bunch of wonderful people here-- the staff, the crew and the residents. The housekeeping crew keep the place as clean as is possible. The kitchen staff really has a difficult task but they manage to get it done-- and people have choices of food.

My Dad Feels is Happy and Independent

They are wonderful. We haven't have any problems. My dad is a lot happier there. Every one is very nice. He likes that they don't treat like he is five years old and he really feels independent. My dad is a big complainer and the only thing that he complains about is the portion of his food. I really like Vicky and Judy, the women that run the front office. There aren't as many activities, which is a draw back. I wish they did more because it would prevent my dad from smoking so many cigarettes! Judy is the best greeter, if anyone is going to go and look they should ask for Judy. I still hug her every time I go and see my dad. They put him on the resident council committee so that he can feel like he has a say in what happens.

I think Garden Estates has a great group of people over there, I do think the money per square foot is a lot. You're going to get more at the Meridian than Garden Estates. We thought it was extremely clean and the food was good but it doesn't have the same selection as meridian.

A Place for Mom

I was most impressed with the connection to Garden Estates. It was recommended by "A Place for Mom" and by a personal friend. I met first with Judy. She showed me around and explained the services provided. She was most informative and personable. We set up an appointment to bring my mother. The visitation with my mother was "Just Lunch." She got to eat lunch and have a tour of the facility.
After my mother decided that this was for her, we scheduled another appointment to work out particulars.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my visit with director at Garden Estates. She actually set the tone for the rest of my visits. She helped me formulate questions that I needed to ask. The facilities were very attractive. The room sizes were more than adequate, and the staff that I encountered were very pleasant. Every area that I saw was clean, fresh, and ordor free. The calendar of activities were very impressive. There was an excercise class going on when I was there.

Lovely facility, seems like there is a lot being done for the residents. Residents seemed happy and satisfied with the living.
