Our experience for the past several years
My mother-in-law has been in Good Sam for several years with progressively greater needs until now she needs a higher-level facility. The needed additional services have been provided for an increase in monthly fees, but that makes sense "pay as you go". Room rates vary by studio or one-bedroom and include basics.
The staff are wonderful across the board -- patient and caring and well-qualified. The food is consistently good and sometimes excellent. After completion of recent remodels, it is attractive and well-decorated with a broad range of activities from a gym to an onsite church service. It passes my "sniff test" with flying colors -- no hint of odors or lack of cleanliness. We're just sorry Mom has to find a new place with a memory care unit and leave.
All Under One Roof
The advantage to Good Sam is that all levels of care are under one roof. It's an older building and not quite as well maintained. For a fairly small apartment, it was also a bit more expensive than the other places that we looked at.
