Señor Living warnings

Difficult to access our experience here in a Senior Living community. Thievery has and continues to be our experience.

Other than that, we do recommend and enjoy the physical accompaniments. The apartments are lovely, sunny and can be darkened with shades, curtains, blinds or shutters (if so desired. Some have electric fireplaces.

The Third floor has windows in the ceiling of the living/dining room that allows for the sun to brighten the 3rd floor living room.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a few persons who have access to apartments with keys. We have had NO forced entry; but, never the less, have experienced un-welcomed theft.

We are sure there are honest reliable people who do have keys, but there are always one or a few, whose intentions are not honorable. We do not feel safe here.

Although there is a "guard" at night (probably for insurance purposes? ) there are no cameras in hallways or physical check points for the night "guard" (providing the guard clocks in at established recorded points to verify his or her's rounds - but doubt that even exists). Basically, the security for residents is non-existent.

We have experienced jewelry, clothing, shoes and other thefts. We originally contributed such occurrences to "misplaced items", but "misplaced" items have never been found (or returned). Family heirloom locket gone, silver chain with egg shaped hanging filagree bauble gone and more.......

So it is a mixed review. The residents are lovely, and are good neighbors, without being intrusive. The apartments are lovely - some have fire places run by electricity. But, Security is non-existent, even with a night guard - no cameras recording activity in hallways and don't know if guard has rounds and/or clocked-in check points ?

Very nice place, [name removed] gave my son and I an excellent tour and she was very helpful.

We love it here!

She just loves it at The Village at Duxbury and Allerton House. It is still an adjustment for her to learn everything there is to know about the place. But she is already participating in so many things that she didn't engage in before. She has been using the pool and walking and she was so proud to share with me that she has even done some yoga classes. We are really happy for her. She loves the staff who are friendly and welcoming. They even remember my name. The Village definitely has a family feel. This is her first place to live by herself and she loves that she can enjoy social time and then go to her room and have some alone time if she wants to. The food is phenomenal. They have lots of good and healthy choices. It is very clean and well-kept. There is always something going on to keep her busy and happy. I would highly recommend this community to others.

Lovely, but added levels of care make it $$$$$

The good news: Wide range of activities, lovely private and public spaces, great dining. Daytime aides and dining staff are friendly, warm and helpful.

The watch out: Pricing includes one hour of personal care per day (any bathing, dressing, transport within the building, bathroom assists, any other personal care). Any additional care must be hired as additional private pay in large blocks of time from an outside agency. Literature that cites added care @ $25/hr is misleading. Residents must hire that care for *minimum blocks of time* of several hours. "Overnight" care is billed in 12 hour blocks. This results in actual *additional* costs that can run $100 per day, $360 per day and up (per hour costs are more like $30/hr). You do not have the option to accumulate additional 15 minute increments during the day or evening and be billed for those at a $25/hr rate. Worth keeping in mind as you consider the pricing for your loved one's care.

Full care and amenities. Cost of 1600 to average cost of 4300 frightens me.

Beautiful facility with caring staff. Wide variety of activities, lectures and discussion groups, as well as a lovely library with a selection of daily papers. Food is excellent, well prepared with several selections each day. Clean, well appointed.

An excellent facility

Fabulous facility, approachable staff. I feel my mother is safe, happy, stimulated and genuinely cared for.

Open and friendly

They are very open, friendly, down-to-Earth and sophisticated. My mom has gluten sensitivity and the could do better to accommodate that – She’s been there since May – and it’s hard to get a decent meal when she uses the dining hall.

Superlative Senior Living

There are not enough superlatives in the dictionary to describe this retirement home and the people who make it their career/passion to care for the elderly here. The Village at Duxbury will not be the most glamorous or state of the art retirement home but no amount of glamorous decor can substitute for the caring staff, the incomparable list of activities, stimulating talks, trips and enrichment programs this home provides.
My Mothers transition could not have been better, the care, concern, follow through and welcome she received was above and beyond anything we could have imagined and she now, two months later feels as though she has a family of caring professionals and a peer group of vibrant, happy, involved seniors, she is thriving! Her apartment was remodeled to her specifications it was done beautifully and professionally and as residences turn over it appears this updating will continue. I have worked in this field for years and have never witnessed the quality of staff, the attention to detail and the genuinely happy and friendly vibe that permeates this organization top to bottom. My Mom loves the food as it seems does everybody else and she looks forward to learning and growing everyday which is the biggest gift Duxbury could ever have given us, Bravo to the Welch family and their wonderful staff!

The Village at Duxbury

We were delighted with the facilities and the business people we met with when determining a place for our mother to live. The Village at Duxbury is clean, well maintained, the apartments were spacious, and everyone we met or spoke with were happy to share their experiences. Ultimately, my mother purchased a unit at The Village and has made new friends, joined a book club, uses the car service to go to doctor's appointments. The food is great - she has put on several pounds already! A Place For Mom gave us the opportunity to visit several facilites in our area. This one was the best for our mom.

We've heard nothing but good things!

My sister and brother-in-law moved in here after some friends who moved in highly recommended it to them, and so far they seem to love it! It's a very nice looking facility, and everything was spotless when I visited. The staff are great, and amazingly friendly. An almost ridiculous number of people stopped by to say "Welcome home!" the day my relatives were moving in. The apartments themselves come in a wide variety of sizes, and they were able to find something large enough to suit their needs at a good price.
