Nice environment, a bit understaffed
Medium-sized family-owned assisted living facility with nice grounds and good activity program. Chef prepares good meals most of the time and excellent meals on special occasions. Staff turnover seems high, but they are generally kind and helpful. With fewer than 70 residents, they cannot have many specialized staff. The CNAs also do the housekeeping and dining room service. Meals are scheduled in two shifts and snacks are not available unless part of a scheduled event. No help yourself anytime snacks, not even coffee, which is one of the basic food groups in New Orleans! Setting is very home-like with nice furniture available in common areas. My loved one was happy there. During the night staffing is very low; I was concerned about their ability to evacuate a three-story building with many residents using walkers or wheelchairs. There is only one fairly small elevator. After 5 and on weekend no administration staff is available.
Our mission at St. Francis Villa is to help make things more manageable so that families can once again enjoy their time together. Family tensions are eased as residents regain some independence and control over their lives, no longer relying solely upon one or two family members for their every concern. Visits become opportunities to make happy memories that residents and their families treasure forever.
