Definitely worth checking out

My mother has been at the Village at Southlake for 6 months now, and she has had an incredibly smooth transition into the new community. The staff are warm and helpful, they offer many activities that she enjoys, and she has made fast friends with a number of the residents. Compared to living at home and feeling responsible for maintaining and then selling a house, her apartment life eliminated many stresses and her tendency to overdo. Initially she was emphatic about needing a two bedroom but has settled into her one bedroom and found that it meets her needs. She has minor complaints about menu preferences and has a few suggestions for improving the facility or the schedule of activities. I think she also didn't realize the transportation to doctor's appointments would be as limited as it is. But all in all it's been a life-changing, quality-of-life improving move.

Great staff--very caring and attentive. Lots of activities and opportunities to socialize.

great place

i love this community and am so grateful you helped us find it. it is 15 minutes from my home and i had not heard of them. my parents are adjusting well, and staff has been professional and proactive. the only issue is some kitchen issues, but hopefully this will be addressed soon. since they have a small kitchen in their apartment, they can accommodate our picky eater

Great Independent Living Choice

I've been very happy with The Village at Southlake. Dad is very comfortable and is maintaining his independence. He needed to be around other people his age, who were also independent and the Village was the best choice.

He now has puzzle and card buddies, 3 meals a day if he chooses, and once a week cleaning and bedding changes. Basically, it's the items he was having challenges with as a 90 year old, but he can still drive and do his own thing when he wants to.

Building was very nice and would be a great place for the right person - unfortunately not the level of care to fit our needs.

This facility is like being at home with family. And I feel it's the residence options, apartments ; garden homes and patio homes. The residences are tastefully decorated and consider the needs of each resident. Smiling faces on all the residents. Staff is so respectful and inordinately experienced. [name removed] was so gracious, informative and guided me through some issues that the family faces with our mother. Activity schedule is full; shuttle bus for shopping and a driver for Drs. appts. So very impressive. Loved the layout of the Studio and 1 bedroom. Each unit offers a full kitchen and in unit washer/dryer The best testimonial was from a resident's daughter who offered these comments: " I visited every Senior community in the greater Columbia area and The Village of Southlake was selected. My mother is so happy. This was the right and best choice."

My great home.

I like this community. The staff is excellent and very nice and very helpful. The community is always clean and maintained. We have a lot of great activities for us. They have a lot of great activities and trips away from the community. The gatherings are nice and they make every holiday a nice celebration. I would highly recommend this community to anyone wanting a great place to live with a good value for everything that is offered here for a good place to live.

Mom is very happy!

She absolutely loves it! I've eaten there with my mom and it is delicious. They offer a variety of meals and they have a chef, it is nothing like cafeteria food. We took my mom to get new hearing aids so i'm sure she will be participating in activities much more. When we moved her here she was in a two bedroom unit away from the main building but didn't like walking outside. We moved her to another room in the actual main building. It's smaller but she likes that it is close to the dining room and residents. We liked this community because it is close to my house.

Good impression.

We toured this community when looking for a place for my uncle. They were friendly and it was nice. They left a good impression we just decided on another property because it was a tad cheaper and a better fit.

Inviting, exquisite, homey environment as you step into lobby - great options with garden and patio homes. Could see myself living here.

Two Thumbs Up!

Great place for independent living seniors! Highly recommend it.

5 Stars All The Way!!

The village at Southlake has been great to me. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The community is kept up very well and the maintenance does a good job keeping the place clean. The food is portioned correctly and tasty. The complex also offers a mixture of activities that sound interesting.

Food is very unhealthy

My father is a resident and we are getting him out as soon as possible. His health is suffering because of one thing - the food. Residents have been complaining to management for the almost two years he has been there, about the salt in the food. It falls on deaf ears. Some things are so salty that he has to send them back. He had a heart attack last year, [removed] and the cardiologist says his sodium levels continue to be very high. Since food is a major component of an independent living facility, I would not recommend this place to anybody.

Lexington's Best

Great TRUE Independent Living Community. Very clean and nice staff. Great food when we toured. When mom and dad move to the area they will be here.

We are very glad you enjoyed your visit with us, and we do agree the food and staff are wonderful. We look forward to welcoming your mom and dad to the Southlake Family.

Great Place

The staff at The Village at Southlake are all very wonderful. They are friendly, helpful and always smiling. The food is top notch and the servers are great. They have an outdoor menu too. The new decor is fabulous and very attractive. My mom loves the pool and shuffleboard court.

Thank you for your review and we are very glad your mom is happy living here. If we can ever be of service, please let us know. See you around.

This is an independent living facility, care services are not provided.
The apartments are a good size and provide adequate storage space. The kitchen, although small with few drawers and cabinets, is adequate since the apartment residents are required to pay for 3 meals per day. The cleaning services are inconsistent, especially if your service is on a Monday. You are not permitted to request a new cleaning person if the one assigned to you does not meet your standards. The most disappointing aspect of the facility is the food quality and preparation. Breakfast is usually the most acceptable meal. Lunch (main meal) and dinner choices are limited, often unhealthy, repetitive and poorly prepared (too salty, served cold, covered with gravies, overlooked).
Residents who have the initiative and social skills can keep busy on site. They can organize activities in space provided. Some activities are set by the social director. She is often busy providing many other services; occasional, bus driver, front desk substitute, etc. There are off site shopping, lunch, and other trips for residents who have few mobility issues.

We have taken one of their homes it is a good fit for us at this time and my husband was the most relaxed here. The community is very active and friendly and both Devon Smith, marketing director and Racheal activities director made sure we where taken care of. Thank you

We liked the look of Southlake and the friendly people - staff and residents smiled and greeted us in the hallways. Mom liked that the common spaces were smaller, providing intimate spaces for groups like arts & crafts or for sitting and reading. Every apartment has a small kitchen and its own laundry facilities with larger machines available for blankets or comforters (in common laundry rooms). This is an independent community but there are many residents who use walkers. We were surprised that the curbs around the building didn't have accessible ramps or cuts to accommodate those. We were told curb cuts will be done in the near future - we hope they will provide dedicated spaces for walkers or wheelchairs to access the parking lot or grounds. The one curb cut we saw was in front of a parking space where a car was parked, blocking access. We like the idea of renting an apartment and "aging in place" although it was stressed that only short term care would be allowed since they are not an assisted care facility. We hoped that if/when Mom needs help showering or dressing for a few hours a day (no medical care involved) that she could still live there. Not sure that's as accepted as it has been at other places we visited. The spaces felt quite open, but we were disappointed there were few balconies available in the apartments. Storage was a big concern; not much closet space and no storage units/spaces provided on site.
