Customer Reviews

A good buy spendy optioni

Not a full service senior community, more geared to mostly independent seniors. The assisted living option is pricey for what you get. The staff is great and the food is very good, but is a major portion of the monthly rental expense in my opinion and unforgiving/not flexible enough if missing 2 meals per day. Guests eat there very reasonably. Think the parking lot security for the residents is lacking. Also think the apartment is on the on small side and the trip from the bedroom to the bathroom was not well designed in the floor plan.

Great place to live

Could not have found a better place for my father. The staff knows everyone by name and is kind and friendly. The residents are very nice and interesting. The facility is beautiful and offers everything needed.

Very nice place!

We're very happy with this community so far! It's a very nice looking, clean, and well kept facility. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the residents are active and sociable.
One negative aspect, however, is that when we moved in we talked at length with them about their protocol for socializing new residents, since we wanted our loved one to get off to a good start here. It may have been because she moved in around the holidays, but they did not follow through at all in this regard. There wasn't any sort of welcoming event for the new residents, or a someone to show them around.

Happy Staff

We stopped by on a surprise visit and they were willing to take us around the community. Everything just looked very good and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They were very accommodating. We were really impressed with the community. The staff just seems happy and like working here. Because the staff likes working here it reflects onto the residents and how well they are taken care of. We would recommend this community to anyone.

Fresh and Clean

McDowell Village is fresh and clean no stale air smell. The layout of the facility is great and has been enhanced over the years. The people are very helpful and friendly. The food is good and the outdoor property is lovely and attaches to the senior center. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor common areas.

Many activities; close to local senior center; apartment feel rather than nursing home. Offer a full kitchen with oven. Beautiful. Restaurant style dining with little cafe.

Jay says it is a very diverse community in terms of education and geography. Bible study, exercise, lots of cards (dice, etc.) and parties. gathering places bar, bistro, living room Adjacent to a senior center.

Pleasant place. However, ALL the residents seems rather infirm. Units were exceptionally small and older...formica counters, white appliances, linoleum in kitchen & bath. Common areas OK, but not as extensive or luxurious as some. Views from rooms that faced the "green" areas were pretty. Didn't get a "warm & fuzzy" feel from the director; he seemed like he was going through the motions rather than truly interested in my Mom's care & my concerns.

From the Community

Everyone has their own perception of what living at a senior community is like. We here at McDowell Village would like to invite you in to take a look.

Our apartments are second to none. They range in size from 648 to 1300 square feet, and all of the apartments feature fully-equipped kitchens, washer and dryer, large walk-in closets and ceiling fans in the living and bedrooms. The building features a total of 197 apartments, of which 156 are one bedroom, and 41 are two bedrooms.

With all the fantastic services and amenities available at McDowell Village, we’re more like a resort than a retirement community. Enjoy a glass of wine in the bistro or on the patio before dinner in the beautiful dining room; treat yourself to a swim in the heated swimming pool; or challenge your neighbor to a friendly game of billiards in the lounge. Another great feature of life at McDowell Village is our unbeatable location. Our ‘5 mile radius’ is very robust; it includes Scottsdale Healthcare Hospital and Medical Center, Scottsdale Fashion Square, Old Town downtown district, which is well known for art galleries, restaurants, shopping, and museums, Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, Casino Arizona, and the brand new Granite Reef Senior Center is actually connected by a garden-walking path to our front door.
