Review of Desert Springs

We investigated, visited and toured several communities when deciding to move to a retirement community. Desert Springs had more to offer, by far, of what we were looking for, ie, separate and private living area (such as a casita), 3 tasty meals each day, attractive architecture, tastefully and artfully decorated interior, well maintained community and adequate staffing in all areas, the pricing for Desert Springs is very reasonable and competitive with only a month to month commitment. As essential "must"have" is skilled, capable, caring and professional management staff - this is a key element for any retirement community and it is a "shining star" area for Desert Springs as the management team is truly outstanding. We highly recommend Desert Springs as an outstanding, active and well maintained retirement community.

Review of Desert Springs

When my husband and I decided we needed to slow down and move into some kind of retirement home, we visited several in our community. This one seemed very good. We have great managers and lots of fun activities to keep us from just sitting in our room. I would say it is the best place to retire and start the next phase of your life!

Review of Desert Springs

I am very impressed with Desert Springs. It is the best independent living facility that I have seen. The staff is excellent - they work so well together.
Lunch was wonderful. And they have a lively group of people playing songs

Review of Desert Springs

Living here for 7+ years. Food good and plentiful. Current management very good and attentive. Did have some issues over a year ago but were solved. Lots of activities daily if you are bored get up and participate! Would recommend it (and have!) to others!

Never run out of hot water.
Housekeeping - excellent
Laundry room - always available.

Review of Desert Springs

Food is delicious, a lot of activities to keep you busy, great movies, great management

Review of Desert Springs

The management staff is examplary! After several false starts we now have the best. The food has improved so much it is hard to believe. My only suggestion would be that the regional/local managers occasionally walk the property and note areas that need/will need repair before the problem becomes worse/more expensive.
Windows need washing

Review of Desert Springs

I have enjoyed living at Desert Springs. Meeting new people who are kind and caring make it a pleasant experience. The management pulls us all together going in the right direction to make happy times. Desert Springs is the very best in retirement living.

Review of Desert Springs

After my wife passed away in 2014, I soon found out that I needed to live with others and not by myself. Desert Springs with its apartments, meal schedule, activities and caring attitude fit what I needed. Now it has been hour years and as long as I can afford it, I will stay here.

All You Could Want and More

January 2019

Three and a half months ago we moved to Desert Springs in Oro Valley, Arizona. It didn’t take long for us to feel welcome and that this was where we belonged. Our two bedroom/two bath apartment has views of mountains, sunrises and sunsets. Everyone is friendly: the residents, managers, kitchen staff, and help. Activities are plentiful with an inspirational activity director. It includes a pool, a theatre for movies and a beautiful dining room.
All three meals are included with the monthly cost, even the unusual choice of vegan food. Desert Springs is the only vegan-friendly facility we found. In fact, the managers actively cater to vegetarians and vegans, while striving to prepare more nutritious health options for all residents. Chef [Name removed] is outstanding. Contact them for a visit and a delicious dinner. You’ll be glad you did.

We moved here 2 months ago and found Desert Spring very friendly, healthy and willing to make you comfortable in your new home. The people here seem to be very friendly as well. The surroundings look very good and look like the building is very new.

Even though we have be been here a short time, we feel our surrounds are very open for us and we are happy we live here we feel this is our home.

Almost Like Home

Staff is very accommodating and accessible. They treat everyone like family. The place feels clean and homey. I love that staff lives on sight and are there for emergencies24/7. The food is tasty. There are plenty of activities that there should be something that appeals to everyone. My mother-in-law loves her exercise class!

Desert Springs - the place to live

My family lives here and I cannot say enough about how friendly the staff is especially the management. Great care is taken to make sure my family is safe.
There are a lot of activities, something for everyone. Wonderful crafts, card making, chair Yoga and a real movie theater with fresh made popcorn Food is great, it has made a vast improvement since my family moved in, plenty of options and looks good and tastes even better!
If my family needs help we can get it from service there at the community as well as hire our own.

Need Much Improvement

My family member has lived here for about five years and I've noticed a steady decline in all aspects of the facility. The main point has to do with the current management team; many of them seem to have an 'attitude' - dismissive, condescending, almost unfriendly. Have heard some of the residents express very similar interactions, support staff usually get higher marks for willingness to please and be of service.

Up in Oro Valley. No in-home care onsite. Can wear a necklace for $100/year. Seemed homey. Only a few studios for $2095.

A Beautiful Casita

We are doing fine here, it a nice community. We have a lovely casita. It is a very well-kept community. The staff is wonderful, they are very understanding and accommodating. There are activities offered for us to try when we are ready. We are very pleased with the food. Everything is working out very well and I would recommend it.

This place is very up-beat and positive feeling!

Review of Desert Springs - Oro Valley, AZ

Close to my home. Set hours for 3 meals. Lots of activities. A little bit of strange smell when walking in but hallways were fine. 2 bedroom set-up had great space.Health facilitates contracted out but on property. 24 hour assistance. 1st month deposit with 1 2 returned on checkout. Minette was very nice to tour with.

No Complaints

I really do not have any complaints about the Desert Springs facility. My loved one is staying there now and I think it is just an amazing place and I am glad that we were able to find it and put her there.

They Go Out Of Their Way

What they have done well was the manager and the assistant manager set up the tours that were nice. They went out of their way to make the transition as smooth as possible. They had the apartment ready. The maintenance guy is phenomenal. They have gone out of their way.

I'm hesitant to give them even one star. We scheduled a tour and couldn't find any staff when we got there. Office was empty. There was a meeting behind a closed door and nobody came out when they all saw us looking in. We waited 30 minutes and left.

They have been outstanding.

They have been outstanding. I would highly recommend them. The facility is beautiful and clean. The food is good. the staff has been friendly and attentive. I really don't have any complaints. I have been very pleased with them.

Life at Desert Springs...

I lived at Desert Springs for 5 weeks. Although FS is advertised for 55+, the median age is 83 which is too old for me.

The building is lovely, situated in a beautiful Oro Valley location. I had difficulty getting cell phone coverage in my studio apartment but opted out getting a landline.

The food is o.k. on a daily basis and special occasions are well done! DS tries to accommodate everyone's needs and requests to the best of their ability. While I did not do activities, there are sufficient for all. The staff try their best to make living on a daily basis, pleasant and comfortable.

I feel the cost to live at Desert Springs very reasonable....a good value for the money....

Desert Springs goes the extra mile

The staff at Desert Springs are just amazing. After taking the tour of the facility and committing to the move to Desert Springs, my Mom fell and was in the hospital and rehab for almost a month. The folks at Desert Springs got her apartment ready and had her belongings moved in so when she got out of Rehab she could move right into her apartment.

The staff made her feel very welcome and she is excited about being there. They have also accommodated all the family members who have been helping my mom and been staying the night until she is healed. We all feel very comfortable with Desert Springs.

Dad is slowly joining in . . .

The community has great activities every day and Dad is slowly joining in. Desert Springs is a very good value compared to others we visited. The staff is helpful and very accommodating. Our family relocated from Michigan. While still waiting for Dad's furniture to arrive, the staff and community made sure he had a furnished unit, which we felt was very thoughtful. They are taking good care of him. Desert Springs has a terrific exercise room and the food is very good. We're very happy with the decision to choose Desert Springs for Dad.

Nice but not what I was looking for.

They were nice and clean, but not really right for me. I didn't like that everyone had to eat at the same time. The mealtimes were very regimented. They didn't have casitas which is what I was looking for, and they were pretty close to the freeway.

I found it fantastic. The people that work there were just wonderful.

I found it fantastic. The people that work there were just wonderful. I found them awesome, the premises and everything, they have just been amazing. They have been very accommodating, it's well maintained and lovely. It is a great place for those who are more independent. We were only there a short time, but I really am going to miss them. They have just been wonderful.
