Reflections at Covenant Shores was awful. Mom wasn't always clean when I picked her up for church, a few times no undergarments. Often I would find her lying in bed crying. Staff interaction was terribly limited, often the activities would last only a few minutes. Some staff were rude and sarcastic, treating family members no better than they treated the residents. I regret being talked into having mom live there, I feel we stole a year of her life away from her.
No Place for Mom
Despite the prestigious zip code, the picturesque setting on Lake Washington, and the slick, "touchy-feely" marketing, the Health Center is just a nursing home -- a nursing home that charges twice the going rate for lackluster care and cramped rooms. They charge extra for every little service, too. Plus, they have no in-house handicapped transportation for getting disabled residents to outside medical appointments, and parking there can be a hassle. In 2016, dental hygiene there was so alarmingly substandard, that long-term impacted food cost our mother two teeth, a bridge, and the ability to chew food properly for life. Even though we got Mom out of there right away to a superior care facility (for half the money), the dental [Removed] she suffered at Covenant Shores HC precipitated a miserable decline in her health. And, despite the best efforts by the good people at her new place, she died five months later. We have filed a complaint to the Washington State Dept. of Health and are considering legal action.
Other senior living levels at Covenant Shores may be just fine if you want to pay the price, but the Health Center had and may still have serious management, staff turnover, oversight, and standards issues. In your search for a place for your loved one, remember that paying top dollar does not guarantee you'll get top care.
Really nice location - except for sales staff - Nancy w. Not personable.
Covenant Shores... Resort Living!
My husband and I have been Mercer Island residents since 1967,
with 11 years away, '93-'04, when we moved into a waterfront
apartment in Covenant Shores. All the amenities we wish for
are here for us... delicious meal choices for in-dining or take-out,
fitness center, fitness classes, lake swimming, marina, many
social activity options, bus service for shopping, drama, concerts,
Metro stop and Christian worship option.
