Customer Reviews

Not even in the top 3 places to go.

The furniture looked like it had seen better days. Many of the fixtures, appliances and communal property is largely outdated. With the prices these people pay they deserve to have better equipment. Hallways were dark making it difficult to navigate. Elevators move slowly, and there were only two main elevators. Everything is carpeted and gives it a much older and dingier appearance.
Restaurants close prior to 7pm. Many times of the day there is no food available in the restaurant. Cannot take you meals from the restaurant without additional charges. At 7pm all shops are closed down. Activities are towards people of an advanced age, so if you still have your wits and are active this is not the place for you. Other places in the area have much lower average age of residents - go there. Bugs and dirt were noticeable throughout. Beware of shady leasing practices as well. Leases cannot start until a person has keys for access to the unit but this facility does not follow those rules. Lots of services are a la cart. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone that is still active and motivated for a healthy senior lifestyle. There is no where to walk to (safely) outside the front door of the building. The view is unsatisfying and depressing. Without their transportation services you will be trapped within their building that effectively closes down at 7pm. Not a life I would want for my family members.

Brookdale feels like a warm welcoming place where I could be very happy. The employees were very friendly and helpful, and the residence looked very happy. They are extremely accommodating and letting me have the apartment I wish and updating it for very little increased price. It has a bit of an older place look But this adds to the homey atmosphere. Everything looked very clean and well kept up.

Most striking was the caring attitude of all the staff we met, from [name removed] who led us on the tour through the home health and therapy personnel. We particularly liked the fact that the staff emphasizes the team approach to senior care, meeting regularly the pool observations and resources to tailor care to the individual resident. The Wellness clinic and ability to transition to assisted living in place on several floors are positives. Attractive facilities, affordable care, great, location for our purposes without the need to find new doctors. High on our list of places to take mom for a tour.

Very Nice Facility with a pool! Close to downtown Des Plaines and the Metra Train. Staff was very friendly, place was clean. Only drawback is rooms are small, but there are so many activities, I don't see anyone staying in their room for long.

Great fit for my loved one.

My loved one is always saying how good the food is. The dining area is nice. They have quality daily activities, and the staff tries to engage her in them. The staff is nice and has a positive interaction with the residents; staff members seem happy and appear to like what they do . It is very clean and well maintained. The communication with the sales counselor could improve, however. They also provide bus rides for shopping and allow the residents to have pets. I would recommend them.

A tour for care

We toured this community for care. We like that the community was cleaned well maintained. They do offer a nice menu of meals. The staff was nice and able to answer the questions that we had on the care that is available. We would suggest that other families tour this community for the care of a loved one.

They Are Great All Around

I am doing fine and the community has been wonderful. The food, activities, outings, staff, and everything has all been great for me. They have a lot of amenities and the community is very big.

Respite Stay

We placed my dad here for respite care while we had gone on vacation and it seemed to go well. There was no need of him doing any activities there due to him having family coming and taking him out and keeping him busy. According to him, he did not like the food. The staff was friendly and nice. The community seemed to be clean and well taken care of. I would recommend them for respite care

Totally loving this place!!

My mom is totally loving this place and has made the smooth transition into this community. The thing that sold her on this place is the wonderful floor layout of the apartment as well as the vibrant entrance and lobby area. They have a ton of fun activities including her favorite one the water aerobics that she attends throughout the week. The residents have gone above and beyond to make her feel welcome and right at home. I could not have picked a better place for her to go.

It was nice..

The Brookdale was very nice, but I did not care for the configuration. The halls were very mazed and it was not as homey as other places that we were looking into.

Care And Help Is Here

My mother-in-law is doing very well in the community we picked out. They were the only one that was caring and helpful to us. It is kept clean and she eats very good tasting meals. She has activities to participate in and the staff are great with her.

To Far for Us, But A Very Nice Community Overall

This is a lovely community, and my tour of it went very well. Everyone was smiling and very cheerful. All the staff was friendly and kind. The residents looked very happy to be there. I liked the atmosphere, it was very positive. The location of the community was the only thing that didn't work for us, but other than it is a lovely community.

Great Community

My friend is getting all settled into this community. So far all is well, and I'am satisfied with all they have done for us. This is a great community, everything spotless. The staff very professional, but yet still very caring as well. There are plenty of activities for the residents. The meals are amazing. Everything about this community I great. I would highly recommend it.

A Good View of What is Offered

I had a tour scheduled here and it went good. I saw a clean community during the tour. The staff were friendly with smiles and greeted me. The room I saw was a suitable size. However for many different reasons they were not the right fit.

Pleasant Tour

I had a good tour of this community. The staff was kind and helpful. From what I saw everything looked nice and clean. The staff was very informative and friendly. Everything went well, but it wasn't the place for us.

Great for respite care!

Everything has gone well with respite care with our loved one. The staff have been very helpful and friendly with our loved one. We are very satisfied with the level of care that the staff have provided.

Top Notch

We looked at 6 assisted living facilities for our aunt. All had some good things going for them but Brookdale had it all. Kim and Tessa were extremely helpful which made the transition for our aunt an easy one. After one week our aunt had adjusted to her new surroundings and is enjoying her new friends. We can't say enough about how well things went. We would recommend Brookdale to anyone who has a loved one that needs the best care.

I was very happy with the support received in helping my mother transition to her new environment. The staff were helpful and friendly and quick to respond to any questions. Care services are great. I would recommend Brookdale Des Plaines.

Review of Brookdale Des Plaines - Des Plaines, IL

I toured but will be taking Mom to see it within a few days...only five blocks from where she lives now...depending on her reaction I will decide the next step...Mom has friends there however I dont know about the availability for the studio she might like.

My late husband and I interviewed quite a number of retirement facilities before choosing Brookdale of Des Plaines. We were attracted by more than the lovely architecture of the building and the many activities. We also noticed the attentiveness of the staff and I continue to appreciate their patience and care.

There is an atmosphere here that you just feel when you walk into the building.

We found the location one that brought us close to the library, the train, some shopping and even some restaurants. But on rainy, snowy or bitterly cold days, it is lovely to have the option of just staying home and having my needs met right here.

My dad choose Brookdale Des Plaines

Very nice place with what my Dad was looking for in a senior living facility.

A Great Place

I think it is a friendly environment. I think the food they serve is very, very good. There is always an activity going on. Whenever someone moves in, they are helped out. I would recommend the Brookdale Des Plaines to anybody.

All in all a good place

Great staff that is thoughtful and compassionate. They are always there for support, or just to lend a hand. The other residents are very friendly too. The food could definitely be better, but all in all a good place.

Brookdale Des Plaines is fantastic. She is enjoying her transition. She is meeting new people. She is pretty acclimated. The staff has been great so far. The only down side I would mention is she is in a south facing unit and it is very hot. There isn't much that helps with that. She got dizzy recently and the staff were very responsive. They checked on her numerous times after that. I am very pleased with this facility.

Very friendly and accommodating staff

We're very pleased with how things turned out at Brookdale Des Plaines! We had a unique situation and were in kind of a rush when looking for a place, and the staff at Brookdale really bent over backwards to help us out. They put a lot of extra effort into getting our paperwork processed quickly, and even had some furniture to loan us to make sure we could get our loved one moved ASAP. It was a very nice experience, and the staff continue to be friendly and helpful!

Everyone from residents to staff is so friendly. Such a warm community!

Everything is fine

Sometimes the communication is not there. Other than that everything is fine. There is a lot of activities for the residents, and the staff is very friendly besides the communication issues. It is also very clean. This is a nice place.

This is a great place for active adults who have a lot of mobility and not a lot of health issues. The apartments are too small but there are a lot of amenities for people who want to have lots to do and people to do them with. This isn't a place for aging parents who would be in need of support, nursing or rehab in any way. That's the reason for the low wasn't what I was looking for.

They do a great job.

They do a great job. It's very clean, and the staff is friendly. They are attentive and responsive. The activities are fine, no complaints there. The food itself is good, but the service is a little slow sometimes. They could use some more staff in the dining room is all. We are very happy with them.

I thought it was very nice.

I thought it was very nice. My wife had a good time there. They fed her well and took good care of her. They checked on her like they should, they did a good job. I was happy with them.

Nursing Home Feel

We toured this community, and decided it was not suitable for our loved one. I felt that the residents were a bit older than my loved one. The staff was nice, so there's no complaints there. They were very inviting. However, this place just seemed to have that older nursing home type of look, along with the smell. It really just seemed like that traditional nursing home by watching the way the residents behaved. Also, the site is right near the train track, which I imagine can be very loud and a bit annoying at times.

So far so good

Being my parent moved in less that 2 months ago and is still "new" to Heritage, I cannot give you an honest review. My suggestion is to give someone about 6 months to really get the feel of a place in order to give a "true" review. So far all is well. Good food! Post move-in correspondence needs a little upgrade and be sure to monitor those monthly statements!

Great Location, Food, and Transportation

The buddy system is really good. In the beginning they pair up each new resident with a buddy and that seems to help them meet people. The bus services are very flexible and there's easy access. They can pretty much go wherever they want whenever they want. The food is really good. It's healthy and good to eat. I also like the little market store. It's really good food and a cute little place to eat. That's an added plus. The location is great. It's in the heart of everything, you can walk to places and look out on to the trees - they surroundings are beautiful.

Great Staff!

The staff is excellent. Based on what we compared with and other people that we talked to, I think it's an extremely good value. I haven't heard too many complaints about the food but I can't give it a 5 because my mom was talking about a pork chop that you couldn't even cut. The activities are varied and she participates. She's getting used to it; it's like she needs a new best friend.

On our tour the staff was very friendly and seem to know residents' names. The would go out of their way to introduce us to staff members.

We are in the trial period right now,...

We are in the trial period right now, and they're doing a good job. I think that price-wise and service-wise that they met the needs that we had.

The staff were very good, and we have participated in a few activities so far.

Fine but Not For Us

Overall, it was fine, but we didn't actually end up moving my mother in because of the costs involved.

Owned by same company as devonshire. ...

Owned by same company as devonshire. just as nice and seemingly just as active community. this place was more suburban rural with a big pond in the back that has walking path around it. across street from forest preserve. thought how beautiful the view would be of the trees in spring and fall and how much mom loves that.
