Customer Reviews

I love meeting with [Name removed] . It is such a powerful statement on the facility to have someone working there with personal experience having her husband living there.
I loved the intimate feel that Arden Courts has - I feel that the rooms were a little too small for what I want for my mom

Lovely Facilities and a Caring Community

Putting your loved one in memory care is never an easy decision, but when you arrive at the point when it is necessary it can be overwhelming! My mother has been there two years.

Arden Courts is different than other memory care facilities for a few reasons.

First, when you walk in, it doesn't feel sad. It feels like a place full of life and community.

Second, the physical setup of the building is very helpful to people living with dementia. There are four wings in which the residents live, organized around a central community space. This space has large windows that let in plenty of natural light and have sofas and chairs for lounging. This space is sort of circular, so the residents can wander without getting lost. It is just large enough to give the residents a feeling of freedom, without overwhelming them.

Third, there is lovely, secure outdoor space that is available to the residents, weather-permitting. Again, it is circular, so they can follow a path around the building without getting lost. There are picnic tables and outdoor furniture for lounging, plus nicely maintained gardens.

The physical spaces are very nice, but the staff is what makes Arden Courts really special. [name removed], the marketing director, made me feel welcome from my first phone call, despite my dithering over whether or not it was the right place for my mother. She never pressured us, and was always responsive, kind and understanding. [name removed], the Executive Director, is also fantastic and I never worry about bringing her my concerns. She is super accommodating and kind. The caregivers are wonderful and patient, and if I'm being honest, should qualify for some kind of minor sainthood. [name removed] has been like an angel for my mother.

I was initially very concerned about how my mother would adapt to the transition to Arden Courts, but it was extremely smooth. She seemed very reassured by the rhythms of the place; everything happens on a reliable schedule, which is very comforting to people with dementia. The staff know how to handle the transitions well.

The community at Arden Courts isn't just for the residents, either. On my mother's first day at Arden Courts, as I was leaving I broke down and cried. Another relative hugged me and told me that we were all family now, and that has been true. I've gotten to know so many wonderful families at Arden Courts.

If I could have done anything differently, I would have made the decision to send my mother to Arden Courts probably a year to 18 months earlier. If you are considering memory care for your loved one, I would strongly encourage you to consider Arden Courts. Memory care is all they do; they will understand your struggles and know how to move forward with you.

Poor communication with management

I toured here when I was looking for a place for my Aunt and everything was going great. I was going to have her stay there for a bit but they backed out on me last minute. The facility was kept pretty clean but the building itself was set up kind of weird. It was like four square corners with maybe 10 rooms per square. They talked about the different activities that they would provide, balloon toss and painting being a few. I would’ve loved for my Aunt to go here but they backed out last minute and didn’t give me an explanation why.

They take good care of mom!!

My mother has been at this community a little over 2 months now and we loved it, it is a good place for her. They take excellent care of her we finally have the peace of mind that she is being well taken care of. I think the thing that stands out the most is their communication. The director, front desk lady, caregiver, nurse, and doctors have all communicated very well with us. This place is truly very different from the place she was at before.

I have been pleased with Arden Courts since my father moved there in 2015. He was living at another facility in Florida, and the difference is amazing. The staff is very caring, professional, very accommodating, and I appreciate what they do. The facilities, activities, and food are all great. I visited many facilities, and am still pleased with our choice.

It is going good son far...

So far, everything has been going smoothly. I appreciate all of the help from A Place For Mom in finding this community. The only thing that I have found to be a pain in the neck is the situation with the drugs. They require a 30-day pack in order to dispense them. I would recommend this community because so far, they are taking very good care of my loved one.

Arden Courts has given peace of mind to our family – my mom has lived there for almost two years and I couldn’t be more pleased. The initial reaction to AC was very difficult - she was angry and frightened but the staff was very helpful in that regard. They continue to show such caring and compassion for my mom and her fellow residents. Unfortunately, they didn’t take Medicaid, so when my mom runs out of money, she’ll have to leave AC, and that will be really hard for all of us.

The natural outdoor space. Many of the facilities we visited were right on a busy main street. I fell fresh air and sunshine are very important, also the home like atmosphere is very comforting.
Very clean and well maintained grounds.

The atmosphere was calm and relaxed. Residents seemed comfortable and well cared for. The home itself was neat and tidy. Everyone was friendly and kind.

Pros:
Consistent
Turn over(Employee) is fairly low
Keep family informed
My uncle is happy
Lots of activities with residents and family members
Inviting and clean
Informative family workshops
Cons:
Expensive.
Need to do more to promote diversity.

My mother has lived here for two years. They have helped greatly, Attentive and caring staff. The food is very good for the setting they plan activities every day and they let mom be mom.

Depressing Atmosphere!!

I thought this atmosphere was very depressing and was not impressed at all with what they had to offer for my mother. The building was very old and run down and all of the furniture seemed aged and dated. They just need a lot updates and improvements throughout the entire property. I also thought it was crazy what they where charging because it was the same price as some of the newer assisted livings that where a lot nicer.

A Good Fit For Us

So far it has been a good experience for us here at this community. I know my wife is safe and in good hands. They are taking very good care of her and her needs. The food is great, she is pleased with the meals. There are wonderful activities offered. They do a good job with keeping the community nice and clean. The staff is great and very helpful. It is a good fit for us. This is a community I would recommend.

Arden Courts Of Northbrook-Northbrook, IL

We looked at a lot of places for the time when Dad would need care, and none were close to how great Arden Courts is! Physically, the building is cheerful environment, full of light and with views of nature from the many windows and doors-yes, doors! In good weather, residents are welcome to walk outside on the gentle paths that lead back to another door. The staff and activities are first rate. We are so happy that Dad has Taiwoo and Joan and Jyun. They know him. They are cheerful and patient. They are observant and creative in dealing with the residents. And because Arden Courts has a unique philosophy, Dad will stay in his "residence" (Boat") with these caregivers, even as his abilities change. The activities are much better and better attended than those at other facilities. I counted around 25 people at a recent singing event. Special days with dogs or musical entertainment are well received, but the ordinary activities of "chair volleyball" or "music and manicures" are also well attended. We have never doubted our decision to choose Arden Courts. Every time we visit we say a prayer of gratitude.

Review of Arden Courts Of Northbrook-Northbrook, IL

Arden is taking very good care of my dad. He's always very clean and very well put together. Arden is really like one big family for the loved ones of the residents. We see one another often and are very supportive of each other. Arden has a lovely "homey" atmosphere with cheery surroundings.

Review of Arden Courts Of Northbrook-Northbrook, IL

My mother resides there and I feel that she receives good care. Sometimes I have to question certain things with staff. I do feel that she is safe, warm, and comfortable right now.

Review of Arden Courts Of Northbrook-Northbrook, Il

The girls who run the activities are excellent. They have a hard job. The caregivers do their best in some difficult situations. I'll give them credit. The nurses do their best too, when trying to handle frustrating situations. Patients are always clean, well fed, and entertained. But there is still no place like home and it's painful having families separated.

Review of Arden Courts Of Northbrook-Northbrook, IL

I was so broken heartbroken and sad when I was looking for a facility for my husband. I did not know where to go and how to find a place I would be happy for my husband. I looked at over 95 places and was not totally happy for my husband. I was really blessed when a family member in Florida put his wife in Florida Arden Courts and we researched and found Arden Courts of N.B. I walked in and was greeted by the most professional, friendly staff. I was so impressed on the tour. I made up my mind and said I would love my husband to be here in such a caring and loving environment. My husband I knew would be safe in the care of almost like fam taking care of him. It has been 5 months that my husband is at Arden Courts and I thank God daily for Arden Courts. I will and I have spread the word to friends and family how much I am pleased and grateful for Arden Courts. I recommend so highly and I hope that I can look for others who are looking for 5 star place for their loved ones. P.S. I can now sleep at night knowing my husband is in good hands.

Outstanding Dementia Care, Residents Need Purpose

My Mom has been at Arden Court for 18 months with LBD and is doing great. She is in much better shape than when she went in due to regular good nutritious and tasty meals, regular medication and a safe environment. The individual rooms are bright and clean and residents can customize to their taste. Caregivers are sensitive to residents preferences as far as "intervention" as long as safety is maintained. Everything is handled delicately and with the intention of keeping the resident secure physically and psychologically. There are always activities happening and one rarely sees residents watching television (although large screen televisions are available in every "pod". Everything that I have read about "best practices" for dementia care is being observed by Arden Court.
Management and nursing care are also very attentive and I never have to ask about anything twice. No telephone call goes unreturned. From the time one walks in until one leaves, one is greeted by every member of the staff. There are frequent get-togethers for resident-families as well. Their end-of-life care has been praised as well, though I have not yet experienced it.
I would like to see the residents encouraged to participate more in being "useful", having purpose. Often I will see residents caring for each other or helping caregivers with laundry or other light chores. I think this should be expanded and encouraged (Specifically, I think my Mom needs someone to encourage her to do this!) I realize this can be delicate with those who are frail, but I think the benefits in most cases would outweigh the risks.

Clean, Caring, and Homey

My wife has been a resident at Arden Courts for 5 months. I believe it's a wonderful place due to the excellent, caring staff. I was concerned about my wife's placement in any facility due to her younger age (58). Of the 4 places I checked out, Arden Courts of Northbrook was the best. It's always clean and is an open, spacious environment. The staff gets to know your loved one, family, and friends right away. They encourage family participation in resident activities and interaction with other residents and their families. Arden Courts feels like a family home, not a "facility". The staff is well cross-trained. When my very active wife was restless and needed more exercise, the building services coordinator walked with her and did yoga. When an issue arises that I have an issue with, the Executive Director takes immediate action to remedy it. She is on call at all times. My wife generally likes the food. I do, however, bring in lunch and dinner periodically. The staff makes sure that I have 2 place settings and a private room for my wife and I to share the meal together. Arden Courts may not be a fancy place with chandeliers and fireplaces, but it has a homey quality about it with caring staff.

working out very well

It is working out very well at Arden Courts of Northbrook. I like their staff. Their programs are good. You can get involved in as much or as little as you want. They have good communication. They cook all the meals, they clean. We went to a Halloween party there recently and it was really nice. They really try to get the residents involved.

going well

Arden Courts of Northbrook is going well. I really like the place. My mom is not to the point where she needs a nursing home and this facility is kind of in between. Everyone is really nice. The place is nice and clean, no smells. She is still adjusting. It is smaller than the previous facility that she was at, which makes it nice. Things seem to be going very well.

The staff is great and the place is clean

The staff is great, the place is clean. Anytime I have needed anything for my Father, the director gets on it right away. The only minor problem that we have had is the way the prescriptions are being ordered, but that may be due to the fact that he is a new patient and is a work in progress.

Better memory care for walking paths and freedom

Smallish rooms, clean, no frills. Residents are given freedom to roam around incl large outdoor walking paths and gardens, more than any other memory care facility we considered. Wide range of dining choices with lunch being the "big" meal of the day. 24hr RN coverage. Exit alarms are a bit annoying and go off quite a bit. Friendly staff who offer monthly welcome orientations for all. We also took advantage of a day visit for my mother before signing paperwork.

Very Impressed

I really liked what I saw when I visited there. I came back to check it out again. My relatives came to visit when my sister checked in. They were very impressed. We are very satisfied. Everything has been going great.

A Place for Mom?

They have made the transition as easy as possible for my Mom. They seem to truely care, she likes the aides, she has participated in the activities and likes the food (she is putting on some wieght, a problem for her).

The staff allows her dog to come visit her, a big plus.

We are glad we found Arden Courts.

They are doing a good job.

They are doing a good job. It's really nice, and lovely. I was pleased with it. Their pharmacy is three times as expensive as the one I use, though. The gals that do the entertaining are superb, and so busy. The food is good. The gal who does the marketing is outstanding as is the director they are just such loving and caring people, and always willing to give you a hug if you need it.

Beautiful care

I was entirely pleased with the wonderful care that my Mother received at Arden Courts. The staff is amazing and the caregivers have truly earned their name "care giver". I was there very often and only saw compassion and kindness. Mom was there for 15 months and I was able to know everyone quite well and when we knew that her time was coming to an end, I was totally informed of what to expect. The care that my family and I received could not have been better. They really care not only about the resident but the family also.

Wonderful people, homey environment

I toured Arden Courts, Northbrook, and found it to be a welcoming, friendly place and a homey environment. They try to tailor their services to meet client needs, such as cooking a favorite dish from home. The activities and social interactions also seem to be tailored to a level appropriate for the resident. The staff seemed very warm and responsive and took time with me, the residents and families. The cost sheet was confusing and I will find out more on my next visit, but it is private pay.
