Customer Reviews

Our first hand experience at this facility

I am surprised at the many positive reviews. When we went there we were confronted by the following: the carpeting throughout the reception area and dining area was FILTHY, there is no other word for it, except maybe disgusting.
I went to the rest room off the main area and it reminded me of a gas station on a secondary road. We were shown an apartment where a gentleman was living and I felt sorry for him, the place was not where I would be comfortable living.
We were treated to a lunch and the person hosting made a point of being able to order whatever she wanted, extra entrees, desserts and whatever. Is this how they keep the residents placated? By feeding them extra surgery desserts? Is was frightening.
We would never consider this facility.

Run if you are a vet

If you are looking to apply for the Aid and Attendance Benefit through the VA, and live here. Run.

Honestly, I'm very disappointed in how things have gone with the Jefferson. We chose the Jefferson for many reasons, one being the community and that she would be able to age in place here thus making that cost minimal over time, now having literally no other choice but to move not even a year after moving in means that was an exorbitent amount per month (she lived here from December to the end of March). We were told by [name removed] that we wouldn't have any issues with the VA getting approved for this specific location for Aid and Attendance because many have gotten it approved. However, when we met with the VA their response was polar opposite of this. That the facility did not meet the requirements and while she would get some funding, that none of the cost of the facility could qualify for being counted towards what she would get ultimately leaving her over $700 short a month for the facility. Added to the fact that this has caused immense amount of mental and emotional stress for both her and I and they are sending us a invoice for the total PLUS additional outstanding balances, which there should be none is frustrating.

Even while she was there they would promise to advertise her interest in teaching new games etc but in the months she lived there they never changed the games played

Local Representative

Hello Shanda, we are sad to read your experience with us at The Jefferson has not been pleasant. Your feedback has been shared with local and regional management. We can never guarantee funding from a third party source, such as the VA, will get approved. We do our best to explain this to all perspective residents and their families. We apologize if this was not communicated clearly enough. We strive to create a dynamic, engaging, and welcoming environment for everyone who walks into our community. We would like to work towards a resolution, so if you are willing, please reach out to us at [removed] to discuss this further.

Just the right place!

I am sharing feedback on behalf of someone. She is enjoying her time at the Jefferson but misses home, which is understandable. The staff are so friendly and provide wonderful care and services. It's nice to be able to have a meal with her when possible. She has a group she usually sits with and has enjoyed sharing and laughing with them. The posting of activities and providing transportation for special trips is great!
Thank you all for making this her home away from home right now.

Excellent tour of wonderful facility for senior care living and assisted living. Quite impressed with the time spent with both me, and Mom, when she came back for the second tour. Mom preferred this facility above the others, as if felt more comfortable to her. Also, we could move in quite quickly. Beautiful, quiet area as well. Many amenities included in price, which pleased us as well.

Great help!

Everyone I talked to about moving my mom into Senior living was so helpful! Never having done this before, they made the process so easy and their recommendations for moving my mom into a facility fitting her needs were exactly what I was looking for. She is moved in and very happy! Thank you!!!

Very Happy

Overall, our experience with The Jefferson has been good. The staff has been wonderful. They are nice, accommodating, and very encouraging. The food is also really good. My loved one tells me that they have several options everyday, and there is always something good. My loved one seems to be adjusting pretty well. She is enjoying the activities, and she is becoming more social. So far, we are very happy with our choice.

Dad is happy here

The staff is friendly and helpful. He gets 3 meals a day and they are a healthier diet for his diabetes. The grounds up front is nice and well kept up. It is clean in the community. They will drive him to the store to go get his medicine. I would recommend this community.

Not as independent living as I thought

This is a very nice facility but I was not able to live here. In my case, I am more on the independent side and this community is more towards people who are advanced in their conditions. I still like to take baths and they only have stand up showers. The one thing I really didn’t like is that there is not privacy. You have to allow the staff members to walk into your apartment at any given time to make sure you’re okay. The atmosphere was really warm and friendly though! I do recommend anyone to check it out.

I love having my mom here

The Jefferson has a very friendly staff and the people there are pretty nice. The manager knew me by name even though I had only talked with them a couple of times. Anything they can do to help, they do. If there’s something wrong with her apartment then the maintenance will come and fix it right away. The food is good, a little too fancy for me, and my mom has trouble eating it, but they give her a nice three course meal and they’ll help her eat because she has choking issues. They’ll help her get to and from the dining room so she’s able to pick out what she likes. They have a menu about a week and a half ahead of time so she can just pick and choose what she wants and already knows what she’ll be getting. They have a lot of activities like cards, paintings, crocheting, bingo, and a bus will come around to take them out shopping. They’ll have the football games playing with some ice cream too! The only problem I’ve found is that they only have 1 small elevator so there can be a bit of a wait for that around meal times but I think everyone has gotten used to it. There’s a big atrium with glass so the sunlight comes in, the middle of the building has a big entry way and it seems like quite a bit of a walk from one place to the next, but overall it just seems like a really nice place. They even have a third party healthcare system so if a resident needs different kinds of skilled nursing, bathing, dressing, meds, anything like that, they have it in the facility so anyone can take advantage of it. I would recommend them.

I'm so happy here

I can's say enough good things about this community. This is a happy place for people who suffer form depression they get mentally healthy. They go above and beyond by helping you get what you need. The management are responsive and caring. They have a nice courtyard and porch are with lots of bird feeders, very peaceful. The food is wonderful here they have 2 great chefs and the portions are filling. They come do a deep clean 1x a week on Wed. I am getting my money's worth, I would recommend this community to anyone in need.

A nice community

This community offers a shuttle in the morning. It would be nice of they would offer it in the afternoon as well. The people are friendly and helped with my friends transition into the community. Everyone has helped to make her feel welcome. She likes the food and some of the activities they offer including church services. This community is not located in a good location for her.

A nice tour for care

We toured this community for care. We did not like the size of the rooms for my mom. We did not want a studio and we felt we needed a bigger room. The staff was nice and caring. We had a meal on the tour and the food was excellent. They do have some activities. We would recommend that families.

My father is well in this community. I'am pleased with all they have done for our family.

Outstanding Care and Comfort

The care at this community. The staff is caring and attentive to his needs. We like the menu of the variety. The view is beautiful for him to enjoy. I like knowing that he is offered to be involved in the nice variety of activities. They clean his room daily and he is so very happy with the nice view from his room. The atmosphere is very nice and we like knowing that he is participating; We highly recommend this community highly for other families for the outstanding benefits of this community

A community for mom's care

My mom toured this community They staff were nice and caring. My mom wanted a room with a washer and dryer. The community was clean. The staff was more than willing to help. the environment was nice and the location was nice. We would recommend this community for the nice environment with a good value for other families.

I took a tour!

My tour of The Jefferson went pretty well. The person that took me around was friendly and informative. Thr facility was clean and well set up, but it was not the best fit for my mother at the time.

'My Beautiful Home, The Jefferson'

The Jefferson is a Wonderful place to call Home. Most of the Staff is Genuinely Caring, Friendly and Concerned about the tenants.
They like feedback as to how things are going. To be honest I haven't given them my concerns about enlarging the Wait Staff and Cleaning Staff by one each. However, I am new (say 6 weeks).
We usually have a Meal Survey once or twice a month. Then there's the overall monthly meeting. So your voice is heard. You have to make sure it is understood.
I like it here. I want to stay. It's Beautiful.
U can make it your HOME! COME VISIT.
I DID!!! Thanks [Removed].

Fabulous place for seniors. Lots of activities , great food, and lots if opportunities to socialize.

Dad likes this community.

The staff are friendly and we have no issues with them. The food is good and the menu is excellent. The community is clean and well maintained. They try to accommodate the residents with a shuttle bus to take them out to places. I would recommend this community.

Pet friendly facility!!

I had recently toured this property and was really pleased with everything I had seen. I had recently signed papers and made the decision this is where I would be living. My favorite thing about this place is that it is pet friendly. I think it is very important that seniors are able to have there pets with them as they get older. I also had a chance to sit down and try the food which i also very much enjoyed. I have no been able to cook for myself in two years. I am really looking forward to making the move into this place.

Slow meals!!

The Jefferson is a nice apartment complex, the place is clean, I have housekeeping come to my apartment every Thursday and help me out. I will be moving out, though, because my apartment is very small. Also, the food service is very slow! I am down to eating only twice a day and skipping dinner because it's so slow. Other than that it is not a bad place.

Amazing staff !!

I have not moved into my new community yet, but I am very excited to do so. [Removed] has been wonderful at helping me set up everything that I need to with the move and the rest of the staff have been very helpful as well. I had a chance to try a few meals and they where very tasty with lots of flavor.

A Friendly Atmosphere!

My mother was living in this community for a short time but she really liked it. The adjustment period in the beginning was a little hard but then it got better. It was a safe place with wonderful staff. We have no complaints about this place they maintained everything clean and had activities available.

So far so good!!

This community is clean and taken care of. The staff are so far so good. The manager and sales manager were nice, accommodating and helpful with mom. Mom seems to like the food and there is plenty of it. The have an assortment of activities. I would recommend this community.

The perfect place for mom!!!

Mom only stayed at this community for a short time. The staff are very good and I have no complaints. The community is clean. The food is good and they offer a variety of choices. You can order as big a meal or as small a meal a you like. There is a calendar of a lot of activities. I would recommend this community.

Had a good visit at The Jefferson. it meet most of my criteria...nice place. Rejected it because at this time am not interested in meals, nor am I willing to pay the fee for included meals.

Great place for Mom

Perfect place for my mom! She needed more care than the Senior Independent Living apartment complex she was currently living. The Jefferson provides three great meals a day, lots of activities, and I can add to the list of medical care as she needs it. The staff was very helpful and everyone seems friendly.

I only have good things to say about The Jefferson!!!

They offer a lot of different activities for the residents to enjoy. The staff are hospitable, caring, knowledgeable and friendly. I have eaten there along with some of my loved ones other friends and we are impressed with the service, the presentation and the large variety of good tasting healthy food they offer. I would definitely recommend this community.

She is Very Involved In The Community

This is a community I would recommend, because they are taking good care of my mother and her needs. She is doing very well here, and I'am pleased. It is a nice and clean community, everything is very well maintained. She is very involved in the community. They offer many activities for the residents, The food is great, she is pleased with the meals. I know she is safe and happy.

Kind And Friendly Community

My sister is doing okay. She is still getting adjusted to the community. It is a nice place. I'am hoping with time she becomes more comfortable with the community. I do like the community. Everybody is kind and friendly.

My Mother Has A Nice Looking Apartment

My mother is doing good, and I'am pleased with all they have done for us. It is a nice looking community, but I think they should change the carpet in the general areas. The staff is nice, there are two owners here and one is easier to deal with than the other one. She is pleased with the meals. It has been a good experience.

Friendly, welcoming staff!

Our experience with The Jefferson has been a very positive one, overall! The facility itself is clean and well kept, and they are also pet-friendly, allowing cats or dogs. The staff and even the other residents have all been very friendly and welcoming! I've been particularly impressed with the dining service! The meals are served restaurant style, where you order from a menu and everyone's food is brought out at once. The food is excellent! The on-staff chef usually comes out after meals to serve coffee and talk with the residents. I also like that they've got two sets of managers, so that they're able to have management on-site almost all the time. I highly recommend the place!

Dad is happy that he moved there!

My father in law moved into the Jefferson in April, 2016, after leaving his home of 53 years. Family and friends are allowed to join in for meals during the first month and I spent many hours with dad in the dining room helping him to acclimate to his new way of life. Everyone raves about how good the food is, and I agree! There is a Chef's Choice alternative meal offered in addition to the menu of the day.

He enjoys the many activities along with the rest of the residents and has made plenty of "buddies." The calendar is easy to read, always available and offers plenty of activities.

The staff have treated him with nothing but respect and kindness. The facility is lovely, the staff are nice and the atmosphere is happy! We are glad we chose the Jefferson.

It's a great place.

It's a great place. Their staff are really friendly and nice. They are really patient with the residents. The food is pretty good too. I would give them a five, we are really happy with them and it's working out well.

Happy My Sister Is Being Taken Care Of.

This community is a great place and my sister is doing pretty good so far there. I' really happy she being taken care I am not displease at all with our choice. The people are super nice and friendly to us and all the residents. They have a lot of resource's for the residents to use like transportation to and from places, I m trying to get my sister to utilize the resources they have available here. She is getting everything she needs here and they come in and clean her room once a week for her and they also have a chef for the food. She is only 56 and there is other residents her age so she had made some new friends as well. I would recommend this community to anybody I would just say to anybody is just make sure you really check into everything you would need. A Place For Mom really helped me out with everything.

Good Decision to live at the Jefferson

My mother and I are very happy with our decision to have my mother live at the Jefferson. The staff are wonderful to work with. I highly recommend the Jefferson.

The Jefferson is a great place for my Mother. Thank you.

Best senior housing in Madison

I couldn't find a better senior home for my parents. The staff if so nice and really go out of their way to make everyone feel at home.

They offer the residents great activities to keep them busy. The staff is always wonderful to speak.

Wonderful staff

There are plenty of activities here to keep the residents engaged and having fun. I think that improves quality of life. There is a shuttle that takes the residents to different places. The apartments are very nice and the facility is always spotless. The staff is wonderful too.

Welcoming staff

The apartments at this facility are very nice. The entire facility is nice and I like the fact that when you move in, there are people to show you around and get you acclimated to the place. The activities seem fun and the food is actually good. The staff is very welcoming.

We love it.

We love it. I think her favorite thing is that there are people around to socialize with, but she doesn't have to. She has done a few of the activities, and the shuttle bus. The people are very friendly, and they did a very good job integrating her into the community, they set her up with an ambassador. The food is actually pretty good. They have variety, so everyone doesn't have to have the same thing. The food is very flavorful, it doesn't seem like institutional. For the price and the services this was the best we saw, hands down. They were actually a little lower that other places we checked out.

isn't anyone here my age

The main negative at the Jefferson is there isn't anyone here my age. All the residents are all older than me. I have a dog that is allowed to be with me that is medium sized. Most places only allow small dogs so I really appreciate that. I have an apartment with an outside entrance and that was a big factor in me choosing this facility.

Getting my parents settled

Food good, but more food option choices would be great,
Staff very friendly.

A Pretty Good Job

The only thing I did not like was the pushiness of the recruiter. I think everything is pretty good as far as the staff. They have been real helpful. The other residents have been getting to know my loved ones. I think they have done a pretty good job.

We are happy with them so far.

We are happy with them so far. We don't have any major complaints or concerns at this time. I would give them a four out of five at this point.

I toured the facility for my Mom. I was not impressed at all. The apt. that they wanted to rent had doors coming off the cupboards, a ceiling vent fan had to be replaced, and the carpeting that had just been cleaned that had several bad spots that needed attention. If this is the way that they show a room to be rented then it is poor management and we won't be renting here

The best place ever!

It is the best place ever. It is way above any other place I have seen. It is extraordinary. I'm not a senior but I would move there in a minute. It is fantastic. Each and every person there is very friendly and kind. The staff has also been very helpful. My loved one does not participate in the activities but they have a lot of them to offer. Everything has been going great. I would highly recommend this place.

4 stars

Everything has been going great. I am happy that my loved one is happy and comfortable here. The staff has been excellent. They are so helpful and caring. I would recommend The Jefferson to anyone.

She is real happy with it.

She is real happy with it. It's clean and the staff is friendly. She doesn't complain about the food. She plays bingo and exercises, there is plenty of activity going on. We are pleased with them so far.

Looked like a nice place!

We toured this community while looking into senior living options for a loved one. I was very impressed with this community overall! The facility itself was well kept and clean, they had a busy activity schedule, and the staff all seemed very friendly and professional.

Health Code Violations??

I toured The Jefferson with my daughter to see if it might suit my mother. It seemed kind of nice at first, with nice views out the windows, although many of the walls had dings and bangs and the overall effect was shabby. The saleslady treated us to lunch, and my daughter's coffee cup was dirty. She asked for another, and that was dirty too. And the next one. I looked at my spoon, and there was a defunct daddy longlegs stuck to it. The saleslady barely reacted, as if this is a normal occurrence. Needless to say, I did not bring my mother for a tour. The residence she ultimately chose has several refugees from The Jefferson. These people say that The J. used to be pretty nice, then went downhill.

Local Representative

Hi Ann,
I'm Katie, I work at Holiday Retirement's Home Office. Thank you for writing this sincere review. Feedback from our residents, their families, and our visitors is what makes us better. I'm so sorry you had a negative experience. I sent your review to our Resident Relations department for their review. You're welcome to reach them as well at [removed].

My apologies once more,

It was pretty terrible

My daughter and I toured, It was pretty terrible. The lunch we were treated to, I had a daddy-long legs stuck to my spoon, and my daughters coffee cup was dirty, when she asked for another one. They brought her another dirty cup. The sales lady did not apologize, she acted like this was normal. The facility seemed shabby, I did not even consider taking my mom there.

We haven't been very impressed.

During the time of our move in, The Jefferson was going through management changeovers and I think there have been three chefs since we signed the lease. The wait staff just walked off the site one day for an evening meal. Not sure what that was all about. There is only one elevator in the place, and when we've been waiting for the elevator to go to meals, some of the residents have been rude because they had to stop at our floor and let us on. On the positive side, the maintenance guy worked really hard and efficiently to get things ready for our move.

Jefferson was the first choice for my parents

The Jefferson was the first choice for an assisted living community for my parents. The staff has had turnover during the time we moved in, which can be a bit unsettling. My parents have a bit of an issue with the food, not as good as they had hoped. My mother was a phenomenal cook so she does have some high standards. The wait staff at meal times seem short staffed, but the wait staff are always in good moods and pleasant which can make a better day for my folks. The community surroundings (outdoor gardens and lawn) are beautiful! They decorate for the holidays. Love that. I do think that the lobby furnishings, pictures, and floral arrangements could and should be updated. First impressions are important.

Review of The Jefferson at Middleton, WI

I like the people here, exercise class, love the food!

Review of The Jefferson in Middleton, WI

I have lived here for 6 years and have made the best of friends for life! We had an art class last week that was fantastic and a historian come from the University to talk on WI history.

Review of The Jefferson in Middletown, WI

My husband and I love living here and the food and wine club are wonderful!! We are Veterans and the staff have really worked hard to keep us happy.

They are very good but they are very expensive.

They are very good but they are very expensive. It's clean and the staff is friendly. They could use a little more variety of activities. The food is good, maybe a four based on the fact that people with strict dietary needs, or if you need organic, or if you have a lactose problem you may be stuck. I chose them because, I like the location, and the facility was so nicely kept. They are very nice, and incredibly accommodating, helpful and patient. It had a very warm clean environment. I didn't realize that negotiation is a big part of it, there are people with bigger rooms for much less, so remember to negotiate!

My father's apartment at The Jefferso...

My father's apartment at The Jefferson is nice. This facility is undergoing some major issues at this point in time. Management has changed here recently to come in and try to improve things. The main caretakers have changed as well. The food is awful. We were served bean soup, with no beans, potato soup with no potatoes and the food is cold. The other day, the entire wait staff called in sick. Hoping for changes soon. This place is close to me, so it's very convenient.

Everything is going well a The Jeffer...

Everything is going well a The Jefferson. My loved one is seeking in. It's a great place, and I'm happy with their services. I'm satisfied with the care they provide, friendliness of staff, and cleanliness of the facility. Overall, things are great.

The Jefferson

went to tour and immediately loved it when I walked in. Bright and very active with a band playing at lunch. Food was terrific and so many choices, had chicken and mashed potatoes. Desert was homemade cream puffs and even low sugar. I didn't expect the facility to be so active and was for over two hours with a speaker from the University. Prices were very good for all you get, I think $1,699 to start. Oh, and a free shuttle service. As I was leaving my mom said "I could live here" as we passed a couple small dogs traveling through with their person. they are pet friendly too!

They had scheduled meal times and tha...

They had scheduled meal times and that didn't really work for me. They kept calling and trying to get me to come by for a meal, but I just wasn't interested, and I didn't want to just get their free meal. It was a nice place though.

Friendly people, and a warm atmosphere

So far we've been very impressed by this place! It's a nice looking, clean facility, and the staff are all very friendly. They do a great job getting the residents settled in and acclimated to their new situation. When I toured it I liked how the residents were all out socializing, they looked comfortable and happy. We also like how the facility allows pets.

It's beautiful, the rooms are great, the help is great...

They have gormet chef prepared food. They had great ambiance. They were super awesome! Their staff was great. I no longer have any ties to them, but they will work with me, and have his girlfriend who lives there to visit my loved one at another community. When he lived there, if I went and wanted a meal they would probably offer it to me. They are really aout family and getting people visiting. It's beautiful, the rooms are great, the help is great, they know me on a first name basis. We definitely reccommended people move in there. they have lots of fun activities. It's more a retirement community, it's not geared for someone who is starting to lose their faculties.

Expensive but Nice

The building was larger, and the cost was way more than most of the other communities that we looked at. It was really nice, but just out of our budget. They did offer three meals a day, which is probably why it was so expensive.

My in-law have moved in there and they love it. I think they're really good. I think they might be a little bit expensive but they work with their residents and things and it's really great. They have all kinds of activities continually. For the most part they think the food is very good. Occasionally you run across something that you're not crazy about but they have other options.

Very impressed, but younger residents don't seem to stay long

My husband is there and I don't go over there a lot, my daughter does, but I hear good things, very good things. I've been there 2 or 3 times and I'm really impressed with the place and so is everybody else who goes to visit there. I think the care services are excellent, I know he participates in the exercising classes and he helps out in the beauty salon, he takes nail polish off the little old ladies, he's like a little helper over there. He participates in bingo and cards and wii bowling so I think he enjoys it there a lot. If there was one thing I could say, and this is something my daughter has told me, the only drawback she could really find is people don't seem to stay there, they're more transient. The younger ones, they don't really stay a long time so he gets attached to them and then they leave, it's like they just go there while they're looking for something more permanent.

Bend Over Backwards

They are a very good community that we are happy with. The evening meal could be a little better but it's because they make the lunch meal the main meal of the day. The staff here bends over backwards to help and accommodate as much as they can. Overall we are pleased with them and what they are providing.

Met w/ staff. Beautiful facility. 2 live-in couples that are onsite caretakers. 3 meals/transportation, about 500 sf for 1 bed @ 2400/mo. Bigger fridge, laundry on all floors, all units have a balcony or patio, willing to negotiate on entry price (skip a month or two).

Excellent option. Apartments on small side, but amenities/atmosphere seems a good fit. Again, pricing is an issue...but they have been negotiating. Wanted us to sign in January but too soon. No communication since. Still a potential option if another "deal" were offered.
