Customer Reviews

The facility is lovely and does not feel like a nursing home. It is clear that each individual, staff through residents, is treated with dignity and respect. The building is clean, inviting and I especially enjoyed [name removed]'s candor and ability to communicate clearly and openly.

An Amazing Difference

Sunrise of La Jolla is an amazing place. At the place we moved her from, almost every day she was left naked. When I asked to have someone dress her (I live in Tennessee, the facility is in California), they refused saying she wanted to be naked. She fell frequently. She missed meals and when they brought them to her room, the food was wrapped in cellophane. My mother has advanced dementia and isn't capable of deciding if she wants to wear clothes. The indignity was overwhelming. She is incapable of removing cellophane from food, so she went without and was losing weight. Several members of the staff repeatedly told me she was a mean spirited woman and they didn't want to take care of her.

None of these conditions are present at Sunrise of La Jolla. The staff is kind and loving. They are well trained to understand dementia and its effects upon a person. Every person on staff repeatedly tells me mom is one of their favorite residents. She can no longer do anything for herself, yet every morning they awaken her and dress and groom her in lovely outfits. They hand feed her when necessary. They keep mom in community with the other residents and a caregiver is always in the room with the residents. She is happy. One day when she was able to speak, she told me she had never lived in such a nice place. I know those words were a gift from God to our family to let us know that we had made the right decision concerning her care. We are so thankful for Sunrise and every person who is employed there.

Great team of caring professionals

My father spent the final three months of his life in the Sunrise La Jolla facility on their Memory care floor or "Reminisce Neighborhood" as they refer to it. It was a difficult decision for my mother to no longer have her husband at home but his level of needs had become too great for her to handle even with assistance from her children. Several of the family toured Sunrise La Jolla to see if it was worthy of having our Dad, who we all adored, live there. What we observed on our tour made the decision easy. We found the right place for Dad. We saw a dedicated team of care providers interacting with the residents and the residents seemingly very content, well cared for and safe. We continued to see this level of care on our regular visits to see my Dad, which were mostly unannounced. Sunrise encourages family and friends to visit anytime. We were always welcome. The level of care, respect and compassion provided by the staff to our Dad was extraordinary and we are very thankful to have found such a place.

Experience went well

My tour was good. But was very tired looking and very small. It was really awful smelling though. My mom couldn't be comfortable here.

Very Happy

We are very happy with the care dad is receiving at Sunrise at La Jolla. It is a clean and well-kept community. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The director is very friendly and welcoming and always says hi to us when we come to visit. The staff is also very friendly and attentive to my dad's care needs. They have an open door policy and they are easy to communicate with any questions or concerns we have. The food here is definitely a 5-star rating, it is really good. They offer a ton of activities that the staff members encourage the residents to participate in. Outside there are several patios for him to go outside and enjoy the sunshine. I would definitely recommend this community to others.

Moving In!

What a lovely community! We toured with [REmoved] and we were so excited to see everyone involved in different activities. My mom is moving in Tuesday so excited.

A nice tour

This is a nice and clean community for families looking for assisted living assistance. My mom was not needing this type of care. The staff were nice and friendly and answered our questions. We were offered a snack, but did decline. They offered activities that seems to appear as exercises . I think that they could offer a different variety of activities for those who would want to participate. We were very happy with the clealiness. I would recommend families to see if this is what they are looking for.

I really liked this community!!

The staff at Sunrise were wonderful and very accommodating. The food was good and they kept the community clean. My loved one was only here for a short time as we wanted her closer to us so we moved her to another community. I have no complaints about this community

Nice place

The staff at Sunrise of La Jolla was very accommodating and the facilities were pleasant, comfortable, practical, and clean.

Very Helpful

I have been really happy with all of the staff members and with the care that they have been giving my husband and how they seem to have been very helpful to him and also very careful in watching over him.

Nice place, friendly people. Could be more upfront with their pricing.

Overall our experience with Sunrise of La Jolla has been a good one. The facility itself is very nice, and all of the aides and caregivers are friendly and do their best to look after the residents. I had a few issues with their medication service initially, and had to do a bit of work on my own to get things working smoothly, but that all worked out. I do feel they could have been a lot more upfront about their pricing before we moved our loved one in. It initially looked like it would be near the same price as the community we moved from, but there were a lot of extra fees that they didn't mention that get tacked on to our bill.

Very nice tour and feel to the property lots of amendments. Liked the friendly personnel. A little on the pricey side. Location in Pacific Beach makes for a longer commute.

The transition has been rocky, but they are nice and caring.

They are doing a good job. There are some things that aren't quite what I hoped. They aren't as well staffed as I had expected or hoped. They got hit with the flu and they are just starting to come out it. But there were new people all the time, and that was frustrating, they didn't know where the notes were. They were going through transition with a new manager, but they are working on it. I like the staff they are caring and well intentioned. In general I think they are very nice and caring people. The cleaning and the laundry has had some issues. They keep the general facilities clean, but there have been a few issues with the private areas. The food is really good, and I like them, we have just had a little bit of a rocky start through this transition.

The place was small compare...

The place was small compared to other institutions, no outside grounds for folks to walk or swim. The lunch menu was limited but the vegetables were fresh. There were no activities in progress to witness. They charge by the service individually and do not provide furnished respite units. Their staff is trained through 'Sunrise University' for 40 hours. It's questionable whether there are certified staff on board. Underground parking was very limited. Lastly, they are closer to Pacific Beach than La Jolla.
