Customer Reviews

We had a parent who was a resident here thank goodness we moved him.

A tour for care for mom

We toured this community for my mom's care. We liked the tour and us happy with the nice staff. The community was clean and we liked the menu and activates. My mom wanted something that was a little bigger at the time of the tour. We would recommend that families tour this community for the care of a loved one.

No full kitchen!

The Somerset Lodge felt more like a hotel. The apartments just had a small kitchen and all 3 meals were provided as a part of the monthly rate. We were looking for something a little bit more independent with the freedom to chose meals and a full kitchen. Also, my mother felt that it was catered more to the ones who were less active. It was a nice community with nice people, but not what we were looking for.

Can't imagine it being any better

It is such a friendly, cheerful community. Staff is so helpful. Lovely people all around, plenty of activity choices and located in a quiet park-like environment. Couldn't be more pleased. I've had several friends and family members in similar living situations. Wish I had known about Somerset Lodge for them.

A happy home

This is a great community. The staff is outstanding and very caring. The community is clean and very nice inside and out. We have seen a lot of the meals and they appear to be more like the very nice restaurant. There are offering him to participate in activities. We would highly recommend the care and value of this community to other families.

Somerset Lodge

Somerset Lodge is the perfect place for my 89 year old mother in- law. The facilities great, the people are friendly and the the staff is very helpful. She has settled in quickly and is very happy.

Thank you Barbara (A Place For Mom) for all your help. My parents have chosen Somerset Lodge as their new home. They are very excited about this move.

We have been very pleased with Somerset Lodge!!

I have stayed at this community with my parents for a few days and the food is better some days than others. The staff are helping them to participate in more activities. They are nice and try very hard. This clean and well taken care of community gets my recommendation. I would also recommend A Place for Mom as they were a great help.

My mom loves it there, and they treat her with respect.

I consider them a very high five. My mom loves it there, and they treat her with respect. She is having a lot of fun. They made the transition very easy for her. She really likes the facilities, and the way they cater to her beliefs, as it is religious based. This was hands down our first choice, we knew when we walked in that it was right for us.

Pretty nice

The facility and the grounds here are very nice and well kept. As far as I can tell, it is always clean and seems to be well maintained. The apartments are pretty nice and there are plenty of activities for the residents to enjoy.

were told what we wanted to hear

Some of the staff at Somerset Lodge were much more attentive than others. A lot of them were good but some were not. When we first moved my grandma there we were told this would be her last move. Then grandma got to where she would not be be able to eat on her own and we had to move her out. I think we were told what we wanted to hear just to get her moved in there. I was pretty upset about that. The call bell sometimes took 5-30 minutes for anyone to attend to her. She fell in the middle of the night and it took them a while to get there. They were definitely under staffed. I don't want to give all negative feedback because there was some good there too.

mom decided to go elsewhere

My mom stayed there but decided to go somewhere else. We have had a hard time getting money but supposedly the check is in the mail.

Great care

My Mom likes her 1 bdrm apt with large windows and good natural light. She is already enjoying the activities available each day. Friendly staff and great care when she needs it.

very friendly to us and mom

At Somerset Lodge people have been very friendly to us and mom. I think the gals that give mom her medicine are just excellent. She does not enjoy taking her medicine so it really helps that they are so caring and nice. They are extremely helpful here.

Accommodating and very friendly

They are very friendly. Everything is nice and clean. It has a beautiful garden view from the rooms. Nice walking path. They seem to be responsive if you have any needs that need to be taken care of. The serving staff are very accommodating and very friendly. My experience at the Somerset Lodge has been very positive. My loved one is very happy here. I would recommend this facility to anyone looking for a place.

Time Flies When you're having fun.

I'm not an expert on the topic of assisted/independent living locations so I used my people and restaurant observing skills.

At Somerset Lodge the residents I spoke with were positive about there experiences and recommend it.

Communications lines between the employees and residents are very open too.

The meals are served with care and with the goal of pleasing those having the meals.

There is some diversity in residents being from different parts of the world. Also, there are those who choose to dress up and others who chose to be casual dressers. And those in between. There are some residents bilingual with accents. Others who are English speaking only.

Activity Director is putting events together and makes an effort to engage residents.

I recommend giving Somerset Lodge a good look.

Clean environment. Very friendly and helpful staff. Food excellent. Would highly recommend.

good experience

The whole experience of getting mom set up there at Somerset Lodge was done very well. The staff was incredibly accommodating.

Once she was in, I do think they could have gone out of their way a little more to get her acclimated to the new environment, such as encouraging her to get involved in the activities, walking her through the process of things, etc.

a few things to improve

We're kind of new there and are still struggling to get settled in and fully transitioned. It seems like there's some things they could have done to make it a little easier. It would have been nice if they did a little more welcoming, showing her around the place, making her feel at home, etc. Otherwise though, the place is very clean and the staff is very friendly, there have just been a few small issues like those mentioned above.

Elderly needs can change daily

Rating is based on my loved one's needs which may be more than facility is designed for? I could easily see all five stars if I moved her in 10 yrs ago but then why would we pay such high rent with a more independent family member? Thus it will never be the care that we want to provide our family members but in comparison to other facilities I think Somerset is probably among the best.

We wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! The only good thing about them was the bus driver. He was extremely accomodating and so wonderful! If we ever needed our loved one to be picked up or taken somewhere, he was there to help! Very accomodating. Other than that, we hated it!

Horrible Experience!

We weren't very happy there. The service was horrible. They were always short of help. My mother pulled the string for help and they were just really bad. She'd need help to go to the restroom and it would take them up to 45 minutes to get there and that happened a lot. She got a couple of bladder infections because of it. It was really bad. I thought it would be a lot better because it looks nice and the people seem nice but they are so understaffed. For about 99 residents they only had maybe a handful of girls trying to help everybody. I definitely wouldn't recommend it. You could never find the administrator or the nurse on staff. For the money that people pay there it's just horrible.

We chose is because it was a convenient location for us and they kept it clean and tidy. They said the could do a two person transfer but they weren't truthful. They really couldn't provide that care for her. They seem to accept anybody whether they need a high skilled facility or not and they're not trained well. I know OR law doesn't require them to be certified but I don't think they were properly trained either. It was all around horrible.

A community I enjoy being a part of

I don't think that there is anything that is perfect or 100% but I would rate them pretty high. It's pretty clean, our apartments are cleaned once a week, a housekeeper comes in and dusts and vacuums and will change the linen on our bed and give us fresh towels and things. If you use their bed linens and their towels they do that but you have the option of having your own linens but you're responsible for taking care of them (I use theirs because I like someone making my bed for me!). The staff is very friendly, in fact, everybody here is very friendly. I had been living on my own for a number of years so it the experience of learning how to be in a community has been rather educational for me and its still an ongoing process. We have 3 meals a day, we have activities and if I don't want to be sociable that day I can stay in my room, but there are some I partake in and I do enjoy them.

Not Going to Work

I toured Somerset when I was looking for a place for my parents. The only view of the outside was looking directly over into the employee smoking spot. It would have been right below their window. I thought, this is not going to work. For two non-smokers, they could never open their window!

Everything has been great

Somerset is a great community and would give the friendliness of their staff a 6. Any issues we have had they have addressed and have found solutions. The timing on their part was just great. They were not calling me at all hours but rather would call when we needed them to and addressed questions. Our father is just so happy here and we were prepared for the worst and were pleasantly surprised. We are very happy with Somerset and would recommend them to anyone.
