A wonderful place to live!

I am so glad that I found Maplewood at Danbury for my mother! I've been to more facilities than I care to count, and my mother lived in 2 of them before I found Maplewood at Danbury - a beautiful, small facility in a class by itself. There are a limited number of residents at Maplewood, so each resident is well known by the staff (including their likes, dislikes, and favorite activities).

The facility is beautifully maintained, spotlessly clean, with the feeling of "home" rather than an institutional setting. The excellent food is farm to table (I've eaten there many times, including major holidays). There are a multitude of activities to choose from which are ongoing throughout the day. The activities staff is wonderfully creative, coming up with new ideas on a regular basis to keep the residents engaged and happy. They also make every effort to assist wheelchair-bound residents to fully participate, whether that involves going out to lunch on Fridays, playing Wii bowling, or getting physical activity with "chair exercises." The residents are encouraged and cheered on for the smallest achievements - it is wonderful and heart warming to see them smiling, laughing and enjoying their lives.

The attention paid to my mother's physical condition was amazing. The staff noticed every little issue that might arise, notified me immediately, called in the on-site doctor when necessary, and called Danbury Ambulance when a trip to the hospital was warranted. When doctor appointments were necessary, they transported my mother to and from the doctor's office and a staff member stayed with her during the appointment.

The staff were always friendly and conscientious - attributes that were glaringly absent from the two prior facilities where my mother lived. My mother always looked clean and well cared for, her clothes and room were always clean, and the staff administered all of her medications.

Another important feature of this facility is their back-up generator system. I had moved my mother up from Florida and was concerned about the potential loss of power during our frequent Winter storms. She couldn't tolerate the cold, but Maplewood at Danbury not only has their own backup generator, but they are also on the same grid as Danbury Hospital (which is conveniently located across the street), so I never worried that they would be without heat.

I am so grateful to Maplewood at Danbury for caring for my mother so well during her last year of life. She was 100 years old when she died, and had enjoyed three 100th birthday parties in their private dining room before she passed. It gives me such great comfort to know that she was happy and well cared for during her final year. Thank you to everyone at Maplewood at Danbury for your kindness. It meant the world to me.

bad to worse

The chef has just left and a new one instated.. Food has gone from bad to worse.. The staff is mostly part time and the toaster only toasts one side of the bread. Residents are afraid to complain that the food could get worse

Maplewood is small & comfortable facility. The staff was friendly; food was excellant. The studion appartment was a nice size, well laid out and bright & airy.

Mom is happy here

Mom seems to be accumulating well. She is eating well 3x a day they try to get farm to table as much as possible. They are making sure she is getting her medicine. The staff is great and friendly they all know her name and they joke around with her. You have to be something special to work at a place like this. The rooms are spacious and they are cleaned daily and it is sanitary isn't messy at all. I would recommend this community.

We had a lovely tour and our contact was very informative and helpful. We found the parking a definite problem even though we understand there was a meeting going on, we felt the parking was very limited. Exterior living space was very limited as well.

A home for mom

I toured this community first. The staff was nice. The menu was nice and the community was on the smaller side for care for my mom. They offer a good menu and a lot of activities. The community is clean and well maintained.

Maplewood happily works with the family to ensure optimal service. We have reached them at all times of the day/evening.

The place is very clean and classy looking.

The staff/aides are so friendly and patient with the people they care for. They know the residents and treat them with respect.

Focused on the memory care area but really liked the special programs (farm to table) and philosophy of the staff and programs. Thought the memory care unit was well designed and would keep residents engaged.

Maplewood is awful

Maplewood at Danbury was horrible. All they do is drug up their residents with sedatives instead of helping them live a happy life. when I continuously questioned the doctors there, they became agitated and pretended my loved one was in a bad mental state. as soon as my loved one was removed from their facility, all psychotropic drugs were discontinued and he was, and continues to be fine! I make sure I tell people NOT to take their loved one to Maplewood at danbury. Luckily, I work in retail so I speak with a lot of people.

Great Place

In my opinion you will not find a better place or value.
Very clean, attractive, wonderful gourmet meals and spacious rooms. I feel comfortable knowing my dad is here knowing he is getting the best care. It may not be home but this is a very close 2nd.

Getting settled!

Everything is going great and we really do like this place. We were kind of rushed to find somewhere and we are happy that everything is going so well. Mom is finally starting to eat again which is good. The community is clean and neat when we go in.

Outstanding work!

We did have an issue at first with who they set us up with, but they quickly resolved that and we have someone that we are thrilled with. She is able to accommodate us with anything that we need. She has exceeded our expectations.

A nice community.

My loved one is adjusting to living at Maplewood. The staff have been nice and we have good communication with them. The food looks good and she seems to like it. This is a clean community that is close to a hospital. They offer daily activities. If you are looking for a small community I would recommend looking at this one.

Good eating!

This community has done a outstanding job with my loved one. She is really enjoying it here and she has been trying to get involved with some of the activities that they have. They are really doing good at helping her make the transition. She also liked the food.

Best Of The Best!!

My loved one is really enjoying her stay at the Maplewood at Danbury. The staff at this community was over the top. They always have a smile on their face and have a very kind approach to everything. My cousin is impressed with how much she is enjoying her stay. The memory unit is updated and very accommodating. The physical therapist is wonderful my loved one is now walking a lot more with her walker rather than using her wheelchair. The sales associate Joan a very kind and authentic person. All of the staff look like they love their job and they are very happy which projects a positive atmosphere. The place does not have an institutional look which i really liked. They also take my loved one wherever she needs to go such as to get a haircut or her nails done. The community is kept very clean and has an open concept layout.

I had a nice tour!

This is a very nice community. The people I met during my tour were nice. It was close to the hospital and the only room they had available overlooked the cemetery. This community was clean, however it was a little more expensive than the community we chose.

Great laundry services

My father in law tells me some great things about the laundry services that they provide here at Maplewood at Danbury. I hear all the services are great but for some reason he really likes the laundry service.

Great

Went to pick up Lobster Dinner for the annual cause, it was fantastic! Mom has been there 3 weeks now and I can't say enough about how happy the family is on moms transformation from being at her home.

We are all glad she is in Maplewood of Danbury. Its the perfect place for her! Everyone is so nice and helpful.
Thank-You!

clean & friendly

The facility at Maplewood at Danbury is very clean, and the people there are all extremely friendly every time I go there. They are right on top of things and do an excellent job caring for my mother and making sure she is happy.

A Beautiful Place for Mom

My brother, sister and I recently had to make the very heart-wrenching decision that our mother was no longer safe living alone. Thus began our journey to find a clean, loving, not-to-big, assisted living facility. We toured several, and called many more, before we finally found Maplewood at Danbury. Upon our arrival, we were emotionally and physically tired, but soon found ourselves feeling as though we had found our mother her new home. The staff were kind, warm and welcoming and not at all pushy. They took us on a tour and answered all of our questions with patience. Most importantly, the residents appeared to be happy, clean and well cared for. Maplewood is newly renovated and immaculate. The rooms are spacious enough and can be decorated in any manner a resident chooses. After all, we were told, this is her home. It's only been a week, but so far we are thrilled with the care she is receiving. Critically, we know that our mother is well cared for and safe. Hopefully with time, she will come to love her new home and her new friends. Maplewood is all that we could have hoped for...and more.

A nice place

The Maplewood at Danbury is a very nice place. It is attractive. The only complaint I have is that the laundry is clean but it's not folded. They don't make the bed properly. The food is good. The dining room is attractive.

Like a B&B

Maplewood is a lovely, caring community. The staff keeps you up to date on the progress of your loved one. The surroundings are beautiful and well maintained. More like a B&B than assisted living. Expensive, but well worth it.

Good food, bad parking, not enough activity in the morning.

This was one of the communities that we toured while we were looking. It was just as clean as the others, and the staff was quite pleasant. We went unannounced one morning to see the level of activity during a different time of day, and it was quite different. People weren't really out and about yet at 9:30 in the morning. The food here was very good, but the parking was terrible.

Thank you so much for your recent review and comments. We truly value your thoughts and opinions as we try to improve our experience for future residents and their families. Residents often eat breakfast then engage in activities in the later morning. Each community is a bit different and we try to take feedback from our residents themselves. Often times, the earlier morning is spent with breakfast, reading the newspaper, and dressing, showering etc. As far as the parking goes, we have recently purchased additional parking spaces in a nearby medical office for staff, so we are able to accomodate for visitors, families etc. better in our own parking lot near the entrance. If you are visiting and cannot find parking for some reason, you can always park near the front entrance and let our Concierge know and we will park your car for you. We hope you will consider Maplewood at Danbury for your future. Please come vack and visit us again and let us show you how special we truly are. Our residents are always our priority. Again, thank you for your feedback.

Maplewood at Danbury

My mother has been at Maplewood at Danbury for a year & a half & I highly recommend it! The entire staff is very loving, & kind, I feel that Mom gets the best of care. She is always clean, as are her clothes & room. She has severe dementia, but my stress is all gone knowing she is in a beautiful place, with understanding, caring aides! I can honestly say that I have nothing negative that I can say. I have complete peace of mind with her being there! They also have lots of activities for the residents, and the food is excellent!

We are here with you on this difficult journey of dementia
It is our honor to serve all of our residents. Thank you for your feedback.

A terrific place

This was the second facility we tried for my Mom who has dementia. They were incredibly supportive in a very difficult situation. Mom has been there for five weeks now and while the first two weeks were difficult (not due to the facility, but to Mom's challenges) she has settled in and is doing incredibly well. Her anxiety has diminished dramatically and she seems to be having a much better quality of life than she was when living alone.

Recently renovated, super c...

Recently renovated, super clean, bright, hardwood floors in apartments and common area and carpet in hallways. Relatively small community. Views are questionable (some rooms overlook a cemetery across the road, no expansive views that I could see, but it was also winter and all the trees were bare, so clearly not the best time for views anywhere). I toured primarily the memory care unit, and staff there seemed very bonded with residents - it was shift change, and there was lots of hugs and affection on both sides. Multiple activities - some group, some one-on-one, all with plenty of interaction on various levels - staff adjust the calendar for residents with a particular hobby or interest (e.g. they've recently added woodworking/carving at one resident's request) - and residents provide monthly input on everything, from food to activities to general issues. Seems like a place where residents feel heard, and respected, and the staff value allowing them to feel a sense of independence. They also have a 'brain gym' - setup of computers where residents can play games that are specifically engineered for those with cognitive impairment, send/receive basic emails, even Skype with those who aren't able to visit in person. Outdoor space is a fairly small secured patio with a rock waterfall in one corner - not the best I've seen, but could be nice in summertime. Farm-to-table meals (they even sent us home with a home-baked pie, made by their chef on the premises). The assisted living floor has a sunroom/greenhouse that was filled floor-to-ceiling with plants - all well cared for and extremely healthy - where residents can just sit and relax. Overall, I found the facility tremendously clean and welcoming, with residents who were highly engaged at all levels. The only drawback for me is the location, as it's a bit more urban than I think our Mom would like - though that's not a deal-breaker, in my view. My #2 choice so far.

So happy to hear your feedback on your visit. We love hearing from families and guests as to their experiences. Although we are close to the hospital (peace of mind!), we offer beautiful outdoor sitting areas and walking paths and even a greenhouse for year round enjoyment. We hope you enjoyed the pie!

This was an absolutely wonderful community

This was an absolutely wonderful community, and if it had been a little closer, I would have picked them. They had a warm wonderful interior that had a really great feel to it. The staff seemed really, really pleasant. They have farm to table food and beautiful plating with flavor to back it up. They are on the same street as Danbury hospital so there is a lot of traffic and there is a parking problem not enough to go around on weekends and holidays.

The chef is good, the people feel like eating.

My mother in law is in the Alzheimers wing and they do have activities on a daily basis and bring in musicians twice a week if they want to participate but no one is forced. It was a little smaller and more manageable than the others we looked at and felt like this is the place where she would be, and it was not to overwhelming. It was more homey, and the lobby is smaller, they have a library and a place to sit with the plants that's nice. The meals seem to be very nice, the presentation they make a point of using fresh ingredients, they call it plow to plate. The chef is good, the people feel like eating. It's a big part of the day and a good time for them to socialize.

Really beautiful but was not shown all of my options.

Was really beautiful but was not shown what all of my options would be. When I had picked up the admission paperwork the pricing was different, they told us that the prices whent up but it was a three thousand dollar difference, and the original quote was only three months prior. The staff was just wonderful, but it comes down to what the care costs because it's all coming out of pocket.

Comparable to others but not as close.

Community was nice and very comparable to the one I chose. Clean with friendly staff and I think even a little less expensive but it wasn't as close and that was important.

Small Place

The Maplewood was small. It was very small compared to the other places we were considering and they didn't have the grounds or anything like that. My mom wouldn't really go out on the grounds much but she loves the views and everything so that was still a factor.

Nursing Home Situation

My brother did not like this place and neither did I because that's more of a nursing home situation. The rooms are much much smaller and the place is across from the hospital. My brother didn't even want to go back and look at it a second time. It's just not what we were looking for.

Absolutely lovely community...

Absolutely lovely community. Very bright, very welcoming. Care staff is very upbeat, residents seemed happy and very social. Love the farm to table food concept and what I tasted was excellent. Apartments were the nicest I have seen of all the assisted living communities I have toured. If this were in Putnam or Dutchess we would have already booked Mom's arrival. Unfortunately, it turns out to be a 75 minute drive (without traffic) for my brother, and it's in the opposite direction from where he works/lives. I would highly recommend anyone considering assisted living communities in the Danbury area put Maplewood on their list.

Wonderful visit. Lovely place. The director was thorough, friendly and even sent me home with a homemade apple pie (from their master chef)!

Lovely facility. Program director knew all the patients by name and they seems to respond to her. All the staff was very welcoming and seemed happy to share any information with us. One down side was the advanced state most of the patients were in. I didn't notice a lot of interaction between them although they were in the same room. Didn't see a lot of staff around but there was an outing today so that may be why. A lease is involved with a 30 day notice clause (15 in case of death). rent is still expected even if there is hospitalization. Staff ratio is 1:7 in day and 1:14 at night). Great concept for dining options (visual choices) and added benefits of depth perception color choices in decor. Nice menu choices.
