Great to Bad!
Emeritus was a wonderful caring for memory care a year ago. This winter they were taken over by Brookdale and everything changed. My mother in law is in the free standing memory care unit. Last summer they raised all kinds of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. They would use some of them for their cooking class, some for the kitchen and some they sold out front. The money went for the Alzheimer's Assoc.. They would hang the herbs upside down and dry them and then put them in jars and sell. Last summer every week the activities director took some to home depot to help her pick out the plants and pots. It made them feel helpful. Also the Activities Director took some on the van to help her shop at the grocery store for their cooking project for the week. They also use to do little things for the community every week. After the take over in the winter everything changed for the worst. Brookdale got rid of all the old staff and new came in. The residents of the memory care don't get out anymore. The gardens look terrible. The residents have the same old things every week to do.
Best memory care of all I h...
Best memory care of all I have seen. Loved how they have 'neighborhoods' within the memory care unit. High functioning folks have their own area. Large men's group that goes to driving range, home depot, etc. Molly was wonderful and gave me so much info. If F goes into memory care this is one I would choose.
Enclosed backyard is perfect for mom
Everything's going just fine, she seems to be settling in there and of course they are very good about keeping her safe and redirected. What seems to work for her, and of course this is different for everybody, but everytime I go over she's outside and walking and that was really important for her because she felt so confined at the other residences. They keep watch over her and control it but pretty much everytime she wants to go out they let her unless there's a reason she can't, but it's perfect for her and she seems to be really happy. The facilities could use some upgrading but as far as care is concerned it's really good. It's working much better for her, having the enclosed backyard for people who tend to wander and still want to fell like they have independence.
Very pleased and really impressed with Emeritus at Sandy Springs Place
We were blown away by what Emeritus offers activity wise in the Memory Care Area. We were also impressed with the facilities layout, it is all one level, no elevators, and a lot of walking paths outside. The staff can see all the residents walking on the grounds at all times, the residents have to request to go outside, they cannot go out unbeknowst to staffers. Another thing that really impressed us is the staffers will take a handful of residents to Home Depot and help them pick out a plant. The staffers pay for the plants and then the group plants the plant on the grounds on gardening day. The residents get to care for the plant they planted. They do the same thing for cooking classes, they will select a few residents and help them pick a recipe, then take them to Publix to pick up ingredients and then the staffers will assist the residents in making the recipe back at Emeritus. Also, we were very impressed with the volunteer projects they have residents participate in once a week. We've seen residents decorate and fill bags with goodies for an orphanage and Emeritus paid for all the supplies. They've also had residents that could make sandwiches for homeless shelters, they wore food preparation gloves and made the sandwiches how the Emeritus staffers demonstrated. We really like how the Emeritus gets residents thinking about others. At the assisted living facility my mother-in-law was at previously they would take her on trips to stores to buy stuff but the focus was on themselves, it is nice to have these volunteering activities to connect residents with the community.

I'm very impressed with the memory care center because they keep people in different stages in the building, I met the onsite Dr. They have a decorated veterans corner, I like that, Daddy's a navy vet.
