Customer Reviews

Looking for a smaller, caring community for your elderly parent?

My Dad and I searched the Grand Rapids area for several weeks hoping to find the "perfect community" for him and we found that community at Waldon Woods. So many of the facilities we toured left my Dad feeling overwhelmed and frustrated, and when we toured Waldon Woods, he immediately loved the facility. Which for me, was a huge relief finding the perfect environment for my Dad to leave his home of 55 years and move to. Thank you to all of the helpful folks at Waldon Woods, who've made the transition as smooth as possible for my Dad.

IL Tour

Our family REALLY liked this facility. We think the fact that it is independent and added care options is huge. Plus the renovations look great, [name removed] was excellent!

Recently toured the facility, very nice atmosphere and staff. We will definitely keep this place at the top of our list!

The staff at Waldon Woods is very friendly and always willing to help its residents. The buildings are clean and nicely renovated. We love the size of the room and the activities that are offered daily. Choosing Waldon Woods for our mom was the best decision we could have made.

Waldon Woods has very caring personnel. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. The food is very good. They have monthly family dinners with entertainment. The beautician is on site and has a beautiful salon. Laundry is efficiently handled. It comes back folded and is put away by staff. The medication system is organized and handled well. We are at ease with our loved one being there.

Moving In

My aunt is moving in on Monday! I loved how spacious the rooms and hallways are. Everyone seemed very friendly. We had lunch there too and it was very good! We found a good fit for my Aunt.

I toured this facility last week and really enjoyed it. We are looking at building 3 for my mother. It is bright, spacious and has a warm feeling to it. The menu and activity calendar seemed wonderful as well. I am hoping everything works out and we can get my mom moved in by the end of the month.

Care Management

My mother has been at Waldon for two weeks and we initially had some concerns about the consistency of her care. Once I expressed my concerns to management, they were resolved quickly and a new system was put into place. I am extremely pleased with the quick response I received. I would recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for a friendl, caring place for their loved one!

Doing well

This is a really nice community, the outside exterior needs some updating but inside it is clean and comfortable and my mom is doing well here. We got her furniture moved into her room so she feels more at home and she has already started making friends. The staff is very friendly and they have been helpful as well, There are a lot of different activites for mom to take part in and she and her friend like going to church together. I would definitely recommed taking a tour here to see the community first hand.

A brighter community.

We toured this community. The environment was dark and they did not seem so friendly and my mom did not feel comfortable. The community was not as bright as mom wanted. They seemed to have a nice menu and the residents are offered to participate in activities. We would recommend that families tour this community for the options for a loved one.

Nice tour

The staff here did a very nice job with our tour here, they took their time showing us around and they answered all our questions. There were a lot of amenities for the residents but my Aunt did feel that she would be a good fit here.

We liked it OK, the staff was very helpful and professional. It just was not what we interested in. [Removed] was very helpful. Thank you for scheduling the tour for us. I'll talk to you soon Sara Thanks again. [Removed]

This community is not making us happy at this time. We have had to talk to staff about a few small things, but they do seem to cancel often to bring things to their attention. My father is not pleased with the memu. My father was not able to see a nurse when he was ill. The staff are very nice, but have a hard time with follow up on issues that need to be brought to their attention. At this time I could only suggest that families take a tour of this community for the care of a family member

Good Community

This is nice community, and my tour of it with very well. The community looked nice, and well-kept. Everyone was very kind. The experience with well, this is a good community.

Not a bad place.

Everything was fine while my aunt was living at this community. The staff I interacted with seemed nice. The community was clean and well taken care of. The daily activities seemed to be fine. I wish some things would had been handled differently. I would say to ask a lot of questions when looking into this or any community.

Exactly What We Were Looking For!

Mom has been at Waldon Woods for two months and it has been a good situation for her.
She is in the Independent Living section and therefore doesn't require as much interaction with the staff, although they are helpful when needed.
They prepare three meals a day, as well as provide weekly housekeeping and laundry.
We looked for months to find a place with the right amount of care for Mom. We are very thankful to have found Waldon Woods!!

Before we even moved my mom in they said they would have the room cleaned and cupboard moved, they did not do it so we had to move her in to a dirty room. My mom has been there for a little over a week now, her room still has not been cleaned. I was sitting there visiting one night and they forgot to bring her supper and when I went to them and asked where her supper was, all they did is apologize for not feeding her and never once asked what they can get her to eat. And there was one night she asked the caregiver for a pain pill and the nurse never brought it to her. Starting to get a little concerned about this place and it has only been a week.

Waldon Woods

My mother has been very happy here.

I am very happy with Waldon Woods. My mother has been there since 2009 and she really likes it there. The staff is caring and kind. She likes them all and I feel they genuinely care about her. I have been happy with the activities. The food could be better. She loves her room and has even seen deer in the back of her deck by the little brook.

They have been wonderful.

They have been wonderful. I would give them a five. The food has been okay, I have eaten it and it seemed fine, but I do hear complaints from time to time. They had availability when we needed it, and it's worked out well so far. We are pretty happy with them.

They bend over backwards...

My mother lives here and they bend over backwards to meet her needs. It's a good value place. It's a very clean facility. Everyone is nice and helpful.

budget value

The level of excellence that we expected was lacking here, but if you are on a budget, then this place is great value for the money. My dad doesn't really like it here and we rate the overall experience in the 3 star range.

The employees [removed] food from the elderly and other possession that do not belong to them. Then when returned they are not in the same condition that they left with. Facility is good but do not leave anything of value in the room that you do not want the nurses to take. When the person you love dies make sure that you have anything out of the room within two weeks of the death.

Waldon Woods

They are doing excellent.

They are doing excellent. They are good people. They are really good with her, they keep a close eye on her. We checked around and the pricing was actually a little cheaper. The food is good, they do a big lunch with a smaller supper, and breakfast. We chose this because it felt more home than a lot of the other places.

Friendly staff, and good food!

Things have gone well with Waldon Woods so far, I'd say overall the care is pretty darned good! It's a nice looking place, and they do a good job keeping everything clean and well kept. They definitely feed them well! The food is excellent! My Mom seems happy, and so far I haven't heard any complaints!

It looks like a residence.

Their rooms are all carpeted, they have kitchenettes, with a microwave and refridgerator. It looks like a residence. They have an easy chair for everyone in the room. The meals were fantastic here.

Moms comfortable

This facility was able to admit on a Saturday evening. Thank You

Waldon Woods

Attentive staff

When we shopping for a place for our mom, we checked out 3 places that was close to home (for familiarity) and that would meet her monetary capabilities. There was only one that met her care needs. When we walked into her now current care giver facility the first thing we saw were staff members. The other two facilities was not like that at all. While we were interviewing the administrator an alarm went off, immediately we saw staff members running down the hall way to administer emergency care. Very impressive. We were sold on the spot.
Waldon Woods is a great place for our mom.

Already Recommended to Friends

My mother has been in about 6 different places and they were all pretty good but Waldon Woods just has that little extra. The have an 8 to 10 foot deck the residents can go out on in each building. She likes to go out there and setup her bird feeder and feed some squirrels too. Each building is smaller sized with only about 16 residents so it provides a more intimate community. Each building has a small dining room so when they have a meal they can all sit and talk and it’s not like a cafeteria but more like a dining room. When my mother was first there she could not believe they would give them cloth napkins, just goes to show how much they focus on the little things that make the residents happy. The whole presentation of this community is just really nice. I would recommend it to anybody in fact I already have.

LifeHOUSE Waldon Woods Receives
Bronze National Quality Award
-- Michigan facility recognized by national program
for commitment to quality care --

(Wyoming, MI) – LifeHOUSE Waldon Woods has been recognized as a 2013 recipient of the Bronze – Commitment to Quality award for its dedication to improving the lives of residents through improved quality care. The award is one of three distinctions possible through the National Quality Award program, presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). The program honors facilities across the nation that have demonstrated their commitment to improving quality care for seniors and individuals with disabilities.

“In an age of changing health care, LifeHOUSE Waldon Woods has remained committed to prioritizing quality care above all else,” said Mark Parkinson, President and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “This facility is an example of the great things that can be accomplished when we commit to person-centered care.”

Implemented by AHCA/NCAL in 1996, the National Quality Award Program is centered on the core values and criteria of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. The program assists providers of long term and post-acute care services in achieving their performance excellence goals.

The program has three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Facilities begin the quality improvement process at the Bronze level, where they develop an organizational profile with essential performance elements such as vision and mission statements and an assessment of customers’ expectations. Bronze applicants must demonstrate their ability to implement a performance improvement system. A team of trained Examiners reviews each Bronze application to determine if the facility has met the demands of the criteria. As a recipient of the Bronze - Commitment to Quality award, LifeHOUSE Waldon Woods may now move forward in developing approaches and achieving performance levels that meet the criteria required for the Silver - Achievement in Quality award.

“This award is not simply a plaque that facilities hang on the wall and forget,” said Ed McMahon, Chair, AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Board of Overseers. “Facilities such as LifeHOUSE Waldon Woods receive this award because they’re committed to the constant journey of improving quality care.”

The awards are sponsored by AHCA/NCAL Associate Business Member My InnerView, by National Research Corporation. My InnerView represents the true voice of nursing home and assisted living residents, families, and employees with the most insightful quality measurement solutions and satisfaction surveys in the healthcare continuum. LifeHOUSE Waldon Woods was one of 361 facilities to receive the Bronze level award. The award will be presented to LifeHOUSE Waldon Woods during AHCA/NCAL’s 64th Annual Convention and Exposition, October 6-9, 2013, in Phoenix, AZ.
