Customer Reviews

If you have other options choose them

Over the past 5+ years that my mom has lived here, she has seen management come and go( the current management is the WORST yet). She has had several months in which she has had issues trying to discuss problems with the manager. Once she tells the desk what the problem is, the manager is conveniently off property, absent for the day or whatever excuse they can come up with. They send her an email while she's there , gave her her phone number which she left several messages, none of which were returned. She finally caught the lady in the office who said she received no emails or phone messages. When she was told the number she quickly lied and said she didn't know her own number. For months her issues were unresolved, but a neighbor complained about breakfast and within hours they made a decision about it that showed they have NO Zero concern or compassion for the seniors who live here.

Poor maintenance

Office staff will not help residents make even minor repairs by giving a work order to maintenance. They are very difficult to deal with. This place was okay until new management came in.

Poor maintenance

I noticed that the prior reviews were a couple of years old and were mostly positive. My mother has been at this complex for the last 10 years. Up until about 2 years ago maintenance was keeping up requests. Now it is very hard to get even basic repairs done. The office staff is very difficult to deal with and no one is allowed to speak to the manager without an appointment. Such a shame.

We liked this community!

The staff were friendly and treated mom well. The building is a little older and needs some maintenance. They try to keep it clean. The food was good and they now have a kitchen on site. This community is for independent living.

Feels Like Home!!

The Gardens at spring shadows have been amazing. The staff is amazing and the other residents are very friendly and kind. I love that this complex used to be apartments so the set up has allowed me a lot of privacy which I'm really enjoying. The meals are delicious and in good portions, they serve 2 meals a day Monday through Friday. I am also really enjoying how the staff really listens to the residents and uses all of their input. The maintenance is great they clean our rooms twice a week and the carpet was freshly cleaned when i moved in.

This community is good for the price!!

They go out of their way to offer plenty of activities and outings. The food is good and they offer an alternative menu. The community is clean and beautiful. The apartments are spacious. The management does a good job. This community is close to the hospital. I would recommend this community.

My loved one likes it a lot.

My loved one likes it a lot. The difference for me was that the people seemed more friendly, that's why we picked this one. His complaint is that he thinks a lot of the people are more assisted living than independent. This makes socializing a little difficult for him.

The management at this place is very ...

The management at this place is very difficult to deal with--you have to be a very squeaky wheel and still things take a long time to get resolved. Numerous individuals there will say if you want something done you have to eventually give up on site management and go to corporate which is ridiculous. If you are not able or willing to fight for what you need I would not recommend you move here.

She really likes it.

She really likes it. She has noticed that they have started cutting back on somethings. They used to have an all you can eat breakfast buffet, and now is just a plate. The cleaning service used to be once a week and now it's every other week, and if you want it more there is an extra fee. She likes the fact that they have a hair salon there, the amenities are wonderful, but it's a little bit disappointing. It's still a good value even with the cutbacks, and they were one of the least expensive. They have plenty of activities going on, the bingo is fifty cents a card. She loves the food, someone at her table complains that there isn't enough, but she thinks it's great. They serve breakfast and lunch.

Lots of room for improvement

My loved here has been here for a few weeks now, and so far it seems okay for the most part. They do have a few issues that I have heard from other residents that I would like to see them work on. When we were touring the sales staff were very friendly, but according to other residents I have spoken with the administration gets hard to deal with after you move in. There are also a few quality of life issues I have seen. The trash does not get picked up as often as it should be, and can pile up. The meal service is not great, it lacks variety and the portions are on the small side. If you visit in the evening or night the facility is locked, and I have had to wait up to an hour for a security person to show up and let me out.

Seems like a nice place!

Our loved one recently moved into The Gardens at Spring Shadows, and so far everything has been great! She really seems to be enjoying herself! The facility is well kept, clean, and the staff have all been friendly and attentive. She had her first meal there the other day, and said the food was good, as well!

This would be my choice. MS. Walker is definitely loved by all. If my mom would move to Houston, I would definitely want her to be there. Very secure.

Great People

You all deserve a 10 star. Thanks to Elodia

Good place

So far we can give them a five. They offer activities for both men and women. It’s a very clean and friendly community. I think it’s a really good place. I trust the care services that they offer to take good care of my important person.

It’s a delightful and likable place.

The place is nice. I’ve been here a short time. The people are friendly and the staff is well organized and the place is clean. All the people say it’s nice. All the people here – there’s about 600. It’s kind of difficult to put things into numbers. Each place is unique and we’re people. People are not numbers.

It’s a delightful and likable place.

Gardens at Spring Shadows. Elodia Walker was very nice and presented well. Best overall presenter. Facility had been 55+ place before. People stay average of 8 years before moving to more care. On-site basic health assistance. 2nd overall best rooms to the Terraces. Okay dining area. Table of residents playing cards. 6 mile radius for transportation-effectively to Memorial City. 644 sq ft medium 1-bed Bluebonnet $1170, 770 sq ft Plumeria $1240 Average age 85. One-time $1300 community service fee.

The visit went well, I am really impressed with this facility. At this time my dad is on the waiting list. He needs a small unit, which at this time is not available. We are not in a big hurry, so we will wait for few months.

Mom loves it! The people are so nice. The food is really good. They have lots of activities and everyone there is really friendly & happy! Beautiful place and Mom is very happy!

Intimate and friendly

Overall, my 92 year old mother likes the Gardens. She liked the friendliness, intimacy and feeling of welcome from the start. She has an apartment that is very close to the dining hall and elevator, so doesn't have to go far to be where she needs to be. Over time, I think she'll like the socialization aspect, as well. She already has had some ladies drop by to take her to Bingo. One thing she hasn't much cared for so far, is the meal selections. The meals served at the Gardens aren't so much to her liking thus far. I think it would be valuable if they had more of a selection from which to choose. Probably not possible until they get their own kitchen this coming summer.

Overall, things are going well. It's difficult to evaluate the care services, since this is Independent Living, and there's no "care" per se. However, I can say that it would have been helpful if they maybe had someone from the apartment come and do some sort of "new tenant orientation" with my loved one a couple days after she moved in, just to help her get aquainted and answer questions. I tried the food, and it's good. I wouldn't say "great", but it's good. Overall, the value and the location were great, and my loved ones seem happy!

I moved in in February and am very happy here. Sold my car and am able to get where I need to go on the shuttle and/or bus.

Loved this place

My Mom lived here for a few years in the independent living. We were very happy with this place, it was beautiful and the residents were all very friendly. Unfortunately we had to look into other options when her care needs began to advance. It really was a wonderful place and we were sad she had to leave.

The ladies there are really, super nice, they are gracious, and helpful.

The only thing she has really been able to do is work with the rehabilitation people onsite. The ladies there are really, super nice, they are gracious, and helpful. She is in her own place that she can maintain her independence. It's an older facility, but they are great about maintenance, they keep it really clean. They are wonderful and they call her and check in on her to see how she is doing. They could maybe use a little more parking, I also have a concern about the covered walkway across the parking lot to get to the dining hall, the one they have is just real narrow and if it rains sideways they will get wet. There are a few areas that are kind of dark and could be a little brighter. They are really responsive, if I mention something they fix it right away.

This is a great place and very affordable. Unfortunately, it is only independent living and wouldn't be safe for my Mom at her stage in life.

A diamond in the rough

The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and made you feel at home. They knew their residents by name. It is great place for loved ones to have their independence, but still have assistance if needed. Thank you!

Not as Nice as Willowbrook

It was older than the one that I ended up choosing, and It seemed darker. The food was not prepared on site, it was trucked from Memorial City, and I didn't like that. I didn't think the pool was as nice. I think it was a comparable price to the other community. They are both owned by the same company, so the floor plans were similar.

A True Blessing

My brother is at the terrace. I would be speaking in his behalf. For our fit, everything was just right. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. he had a couple of things wrong with the apartment when he moved in and they fixed it within the hour. You don't get that anywhere. They had the sink and bathroom were fixed very quickly. The wheelchair entrance was replaced with heavy duty concrete within a day or two of moving in. Matthew, my brother, is on a fixed income with his disability benefits and they have been really helpful as far as the facility. All worries were completely alleviated by The Terrace's policies. His biggest criteria was being able to get his power chair into the bathroom, and they remodeled the bathroom right away.

We are Very Impressed

She loves it and we are so impressed with it. She is very content. It is independent living, but they come in once a week to do light housework like mopping. For trash, all she has to do is set it out right at her door and they will come get it. It is like staying in a hotel. They do a whole list of activities. Even the residents are so sweet and nice. The first day my mom started meeting people and getting to know them. The other residents invited her to a pizza party and even had a little beer to go with it! There is an onsite hair dresser and even a craps thing if they want to play. We just try and encourage her to stay involved, and she is counting her blessings.

Nice Place!

It's nice and they're real helpful and reliable. The care is excellent and it's competitive in price. My brother lives there and he's doing real well there. As long as they keep on how they've been going, I can highly recommend them.

Excellent service

I want to thank two women that helped me find a home for my father.

First, Patty Locke with who assisted me and was very kind and knowledgeable about the facilities that she was suggesting. After a brief information download from me to her, she met the wants and financial needs that I had wanted for my father; in fact, the first property she suggested, I ended up going with.

Second, I want to that Elodia Walker with The Terrace-Spring Shadows Place for her overwhelmingly helpful support during this stage in my father's life. She worked with us on the price, the deposit, finding him furniture, and coordinating the arrival of his vehicle, which is being shipped from California. I believe she has gone way above and beyond her duty to help my father and I with this move. On top of all her help, she was very knowledgeable and patient with me in explaining in detail all about the property and the apartment that my father ended up with. I am not able to physically look at the property other than on the internet, because I am away at school. Elodia deserves all the recognition and any employer reward that you are authorized to give her.

Overall, this entire experience has been outstanding and would I will happily recommend and The Terrace -Spring Shadows to anyone that is looking for senior housing.

Thank you,

Jonathan St. Michel

Excellent property, very impressed with staff, grounds and facilities. I wasn't rushed and all my questions were answered. I'm stronger considering for my move.

No Complaints

Everything is fine and my father-in-law is pretty happy there. It's a good price. They're doing a good job - we have no complaints right now. They have plenty of activities. Whether my father-in-law does them is a different story. I know they have a lot of outings and we went to a little party that they had. My father-in-law invited us and I had fun, myself. I don't see anything that they could improve on right now. My father-in-law seems to like the food a lot.

Very Nice

That was very nice but my mom just didn't want to move that far away. That would have been a good option. They offered more services than where she lives now.

Independent Living

It was okay. It's an older facility that was made for regular people you might say. Some rich guy bought it and converted it so his mother would have a place to live so it's kind of retrofitted for older folks. It has it's quirks but it's a good value. I think if they would serve a meal on the weekends, that would be good. They serve 2 meals a day 5 days week. I think you can order food for the weekends. It's more for independent living. My mom lived there for a year.

Mother Loves It

The care services are good. They're doing a really good job. They have bingo and church and outings. They go to the grocery store. My mother loves it. She said the food is good.

Did not like the way the place was organized. A lot of walking was required and she also didn't like that there seemed to be a lot of smokers there. She left the place feeling an bit depressed from the low-energy there. It didn't have the community feel she enjoyed at The Terrace at Memorial.

The Terrace on Kempwood

This was the first independent living community we visited for placement of our legally blind and disabled son. We found the staff helpful, the apartment grounds well cared for and the cost of living at the Terrace was affordable. We moved our son in and apart from a few minor glitches which were promptly taken care of we are pleased with the services and management. Our son seems to be settling down and the residents have been kind to him as he is difficult to understand at times.

Seems like there is not enough staff to take care of the number of residents they have. You have to hunt them down if you need to speak with them. They only offer 2 meals a day and the residents are on there own for dinner and on the weekends. They offer meals to go between 11:30 am and 12:00 pm if you get there at 12:01 pm you have to look for them and ask for it, they get upset like it is an inconvenience. If you go by their rules everything is ok but when you don’t follow all the rules it’s made difficult. They market it as a gated community but we call it a compound. They advertise a shuttle service but they do not tell you they only travel a 6 mile radius. We chose it because the dialysis center my husband goes to is close by but they said it is out of the radius for the shuttle and the shuttle has to keep an appointment. I drove it with my vehicle and reset the odometer and it was within the 6 mile radius so am not sure why they told me that. They do offer assistance with medical appointment and things like that but it is an extra service and they currently have a waiting list for it. I feel like it was a bait and switch because they advertised $695 apartments but when we showed up and asked they said it was another $495 for two people so it’s around $1,200 a month. They also will not take work orders verbally but when you put one in on paper they still take a long time to get to it. If you get to close to the gate security comes up and ask you if you are ok or what is going on. It really has more of a compound feel to it then an independent living community. If you look into this community make sure you are asking all the right questions before you make the decision.
