Customer Reviews

Now this place is real nice and the apartments are quite roomy. They have special offers for vets which I may be able to take advantage of later and I can bring one of my pets with me. This place is one I would like to live in.

Found a very nice apartment with an excellent view for my in-laws. The location is very close to their church, doctors, and family.

I like this community

The staff are amazing at Shasta. They have been very helpful. My loved one does not like the food and complains it is always late. The community is always clean and the outside is nice. They play cards, however they are not interested in the rest of the activities offered.

3 meals a day; activity rooms; people have their own apartments; 100-120 folks; up near Whiskeytown; Avg age is 80s; some very active folks; includes everything but telephone; Studio and 1BR $2500-3000. Independent medical providers are in the building. [Removed]

Care for dad

My father is in this community. He is not happy with the meals, They need to offer more activities. The community is clean and they are very patient. I would recommend the overall care here. Families might want to tour this community for the care of a loved one's needs. The community may consider some improvments on the variety of meals that are offered.

Very nice facility, owned by same co. As Hilltop so same operating procedures. Rooms a bit larger, facility much newer, nicer and price point about the same.

The Neighborhood Is Likeable

When I came to look at the community I liked the neighborhood and picked this place because of that. So far all is good. The meals and activities are all good for my mom. The staff and cleanliness have been going good.

Care for dad

I like this community. The staff are very nice and caring to his needs. The food is appealing and he seems to be happy with the variety. They offer a lot of nice activities. We would recommend families to this community for the great care and value for their loved one

A Beacon of Light

I didn't know places like this existed!! It is independent so my mom has her own apartment but Serenity senior care services takes care of her daily needs. The girls have been a light in our storm. My mom had a stroke and while mentally she's fine, she is in a wheelchair hoping to use a walker. She still gets all 3 therapies who come to her. She was in an assisted living following rehab and not happy. The girls from Shasta and Serenity worked together and actually .moved my mom in, took care of everything!! Even brought her to home so she could choose items personally! You can choose which services you need for the month( dress assist, shower assist etc) and they do an hourly check on her. Right now she pays 5800.00 between both companies but the more she can do for herself, the less help she'll need. I finally have peace knowing my mom is taken care of and she's happy because it's a retirement place not assisted living. I cannot praise the staff enough for all they have done..Shasta Estates and Serenity senior care services (Sherry and Lizette) you have been our angels and I'll be forever grateful!!

I like living at Shasta Estates!!

I like the activities and outings they offer at this community. The food is good and they have a good variety. The community is clean and they do a good job cleaning my apartment. The staff are nice and helpful. I would recommend this community.

Bus service

I am very disappointed with the bus schedule. We were told when visiting the facility that my aunt would be able to ride the bus to dialysis three days a week. Now the schedule is very limited. I feel like the sales pitch is; tell them anything they want to hear, then the management gives the real story. This is a real problem for her to get back and forth to this necessary life-sustaining treatment.

Friendly and Clean

We looked at a few other places, but this was easily the best choice for us! The Shasta Estates was best, the cleanest, and the most friendly. The Shasta Estates is just a great community.

I took a tour here about a month ago, loved this facility too.

Nice accommodations

I toured the Shasta Estates. Overall, It was a pretty nice community. It had nice accommodations. The tour went pretty good but we ended up choosing a different facility. It was very clean.

DON'T BOTHER!!!!

We moved my parents into Shasta Estates in December of 2013 and from day one the experience was a disaster. The managers were so rude to us. The whole mood of the facility was like being in an institution. My parents had to pay a company $450 a month to have someone park their walkers when they went down for a meal and then they were done they would retrieve the walkers for them. WHAT???? I told the managers ....."People use walkers because they need them to walk so how are they suppose to park their walkers and then try and walk back to their tables?" They didn't care and they weren't going to do it for them so that's why they had to pay someone.

I don't know who designed the building but there was only one elevator and sometimes the wait to go downstairs was unbelievably long. And if someone was moving in/out ......that was the elevator they used. No service elevator. I thought that was ridiculous.

One of my Dads biggest complaint was how long it took for them to get their meals. Also, the waitstaff was changing all the time so they never new my parents name.

They had a beautiful chapel on the second floor but didn't use it for the services on sunday. They were done downstairs in the multi-purpose room which was very disappointing for my Mom. We were told when we toured that the services were held in the chapel.

Bottom line........It seemed my parents were just dollar signs to the company which has over 300 properties nationwide. My parents moved into another independent living building and are extremely happy.

Holiday Retirement

Local Representative

Hi, I'm Katie, I work at Holiday Retirement's Home Office in Oregon. I'm very sorry your parents had a negative experience at Shasta Estates and decided to leave. The most discerning part of your review, for me, was the $450 monthly fee to help your parents with their walkers. A large percentage of our residents have issues with mobility and no such fee is in place. I've sent your review directly to our Resident Relations team to investigate further.

Again, my apologies, and thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Katie

They are pretty forthright in terms of the managers, and the caregivers have been very good as well.

That said, my mother is 84 and is not entirely happy there. She lived at her home for 63 years and is second guessing her decision to move out of there and into Shasta Estates. But that is not something no one could have done to prevent.

My mother is admittedly not easy to get along with, and they really do as good of a job as anyone could in working with her.

It is a little pricey, but then I know most places like this are.

I think they are doing a fine job.

It's a very clean community, and the staff is friendly, they are attentive and helpful, and they seem to have plenty of activities. The food is very good. I think they are doing a fine job. We liked how much cleaner and warmer it was than the other places.

Shasta Estates

I was very impressed with this facility compared to others we toured. It's new, bright and airy, and the apartments are somewhat larger than at other homes. The staff are extremely solicitous and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. The food is great and you can socialize as much or as little as you like. There are plenty of activities to keep you engaged.

All of this comes at a price, and you'll find them to be a bit more expensive than the norm. There are also extra fees (a move-in, "community fee" equal to one month's rent and a fee for pets) that may or may not be deal breakers for you. It would be better, in my opinion, if SE simply amortized all of this into a single price.

Favorite

This place was outstanding. We were going to place my parents here but there were no openings at the time. Howard is great! This was definitely our favorite.

We thought it was great.

We thought it was great.
