About The Inn at Los Patios - San Antonio, TX

The Inn at Los Patios is a skillful blend of elegant privacy and bustling community life for active independent and assisted living adults. Combining a spectacular wooded setting in a prestigious northeast location with striking design and craftsmanship, The Inn is San Antonio's most beautiful retirement community. Since 1990, The Inn at Los Patios has been a retirement community, carefully planned and nurtured into a garden of towering live oaks, green lawns and a rainbow of blooming plants and flowers. It is an extraordinary place.

The Inn at Los Patios is located in a pleasant neighborhood in northeastern San Antonio that's convenient to shopping, dining and other recreation. Seniors here enjoy the city's rich cultural history, generally warm climate and central location in the state, as it's just a short drive to nearby Austin in one direction and El Paso in the other. Taken together, the perks this neighborhood offers residents make Los Patios one of the most livable areas in the city.

Walkability: Los Patios is not very pedestrian-friendly. Walkscore gives the entire 78217 ZIP code a walkability rating of only 37 (out of a possible 100), and notes that a private car is needed for most errands.

Age: Los Patios residents have a median age of 35.9 years, which puts them slightly over the Texas state median of 34.4.

Senior Housing: Apart from The Inn, the Los Patios area has two major senior housing facilities: Brookdale and Carol Ann's

Weather: San Antonio tends toward hot summers and mild winters. The average daily high in the city is 79.8 degrees, while the average low is a still-warm 57.6. The city is prone to sudden downpours that end quickly, giving the area an annual average rainfall of almost 33 inches.

Veteran's Facilities: Los Patios boasts three veterans' facilities within easy range of The Inn. VFW and American Legion halls cluster to the east of the neighborhood, right next to the NE Vet Center.

Transportation

Mass Transit: San Antonio is served by a mass transit authority called VIA. VIA operates bus routes throughout Los Patios, a service it supplements with vanpools and special events routes. Seniors and disabled passengers may ride on VIA with their caregivers for just the cost of a single fare.

Taxis: Taxis may be found in downtown San Antonio, but they're less common here than they would be in a densely packed Eastern city like New York. In San Antonio, most cabs cluster near the airports and hotels, where they're likely to pick up a tourist, but any of the city's many cab companies are available on demand in the Los Patios area.

Ridesharing: Services such as Uber and Lyft operate all over the San Antonio area, and residents with an account are never more than a few minutes away from a ride.

Health and Safety

Hospitals: The Inn at Los Patios is situated just a few hundred yards away from Northeast Baptist Hospital, one of the largest and best-equipped medical centers in the city. Many smaller facilities and medical offices dot the area around it.

Crime: Los Patios is absolutely lockstep with national averages across most crime categories. Exceptions to this include burglary (Los Patios is higher than the average) and both car theft and crimes against people (both significantly lower than national figures).

Sports and Leisure

Golf: Great golf is to be had around the edges of Los Patios at two public courses: The Quarry and Windquest.

Tennis: Tennis pros, and the occasional amateur, enjoy games of singles and doubles at either Blossom or Alamo Heights, on either side of the Los Patios area.

Shopping and Entertainment

Groceries: Los Patios residents have the option to shop for groceries at one of the many H-E-B stores in the area, or they can find great discounts at the local Food City.

Luby's: Seniors who can't face the day without breakfast at Luby's are in luck. The Inn at Los Patios is only 1 mile away from the nearest Luby's restaurant.

Other Restaurants: Los Patios offers many options for dining apart from Luby's. Fast food tends to dominate near the two major freeways that define the area's western border, while sit-down and take-out places abound toward the south and east.

Movie Theaters: What the Los Patios area lacks in number of theaters, it more than makes up for in quality. Just a few minutes' drive to the east of The Inn, residents can enjoy the latest releases, along with the freshest surf-n'-turf, at the upscale Rialto Cinema Bar and Grill.

Libraries: Seniors in Los Patios can take their ease and enjoy cozy afternoons with a good book at either the Tobin or Thousand Oaks public libraries, both conveniently located to the north and south of The Inn at Los Patios.

Religious facilities

Religious Facilities: People of faith in Los Patios are well served by many diverse places of worship. Few of these are situated inside the neighborhood itself, but multiple Catholic and Baptist churches fringe the area to the northwest, while LDS and nondenominational churches line Highway 24 to the southeast.
