Customer Reviews

Beatrice was wonderful! The information and the tour were very helpful. She understood and verbalized very well her understanding of my dad's situation right away. She was a professional who was knowledgeable about the facility. I am planning to do a roadtrip with dad to include a visit. I am planning this for the end of August. However, it will depend on what his cardiologist has to say about his heart status. I found the facility to be well maintained, quiet, and aesthetic. It has the amenities that would fit comfortably with my dad's current independent lifestyle. Greatwood is also is close to shopping and health facilities that my dad would be able to utilize. Distance and traffic (Hwy 6 and Hwy 59) to the facility from my house are my concerns currently. However, I will see what dad thinks about it. I'll stay in contact. Again, thank you.

Great facility, older facility but has been updated. interior access to all amenities and dining. Very nice, suburban location, mid price range

This is an older facility, but still in good shape. The rooms open to the inside like a hotel or nursing home. The apartments were a little small, but nice. Once again, I think the independent living would work better for Dad's needs at the moment.

Loved [Removed] who manages the assisted living side. Facility looks older. The courtyards were not shaded and seating was minimal and uncomfortable. Too far out from where Mom currently lives.

The brighter side for care

This is a nice community but does need some major improvements. The staff are nice and were able to answer the questions we had. They need to make some improvements in the environment to make it appear to be more bright for the residents. The menu was appealing and they do offer activities. We would recommend that families your this community to see if this is what they are looking for.

A Real Pond With Ducks

My sister and brother in law love living here. The landscaping is exceptional always kept up. They love the landscaping it is always kept up there is a pond with ducks that you can go sit and watch. The inside is just as well maintained it's beautiful. Everything is enclosed meaning you don't have to go outside to get to another area. The food is the expectional wonderful chef.
The staff is very friendly especially the gentleman that works the concierge desk you go to him and what ever your need is he gets it done.
The community offers so many activities my sister loves to go to the bingo. It was the perfect choice for my family we love it here.

Mom's Home for care

I like the care of this community. The staff is caring. She seems to be happy with most of the meals that are offered. I like knowing that she does participate with the other residents on the many activities that are offered. I would recommend this community for other families for the care of a loved one for care and the value.

My tour

This community has small rooms. They also have the independent living residents in the same building as the assisted living. We were looking for more of an independent living community. The person that took us on tour was very nice and the community looked clean.

Not a bad community

They offer daily activities and as well as trips out twice a month to watch baseball games. I have tried the food and I think it is really good. The community is well taken care of and they clean my dad's apartment each week. The staff are nice and the front desk person is very helpful. This community is closed in and they have a courtyard for the residents to enjoy. I would recommend this community, however I would ask a lot of questions.

The staff have been wonderful and have made sure to accommodate his needs at the best of there ability. He has really been enjoying the meals as well as other activities they have available throughout the day for the residents. Overall we could not be more pleased and would highly recommend it.

I liked my experience of this place!!

I have really enjoyed my experience of this community when I had my tour for my loved one. The staff where all very friendly and had a lot of great information to offer us about there facility. They had a beautiful courtyard as well as other great amenities available to all of there residents. I would defiantly recommend this place it just was not the right fit for my father.

Love Greatwood!

My parents moved in two days before Christmas. Two days after Christmas, Daddy was hospitalized and never was able to come home. We lost him on January 15th. Greatwood was awesome with the moving in / settling in process. They, along with the residents, have been so welcoming and supportive of our situation. Mom invited me to join her for lunch yesterday and the food was delicious. I'm so happy that they / now she has found a special place to live.

Greatwood is Great!

My daughter started working at Greatwood Sugar Land earlier this summer and just loves it. She tells me about all the activities they provide for the tenants - style shows, scrapbooking, etc.

She eats lunch there every day and talks about how good the food is. She says they are in the process of updating all the apartments and how they really care about all the tenants.

MOM IS HAPPY

My mother lives at Greatwood and she could not be happier! The atmosphere is so warm and inviting every time I visit. She is very active in the community, and loves all the activities! Sometimes she does not even have time for me! I am so happy for her. Moving her there is the best decision I have made!

MOVING TO GREATWOOD at SUGAR LAND

I recently toured Greatwood at Sugar Land and WAS SO IMPRESSED! I thought the place was beautiful and well maintained. The staff and residents were SO FRIENDLY! I had lunch after my tour, and the food was wonderful! I plan to move my parents into the community before the month is out! THANKS GREATWOOD!

Don't move your loved one here

Greatwood has gone downhill in several years from poor management to things going wrong in the building. Building had flood and the whole front office was flooded where there was mold on walls and it had to be redone. Carpet and the rest of the building is old and they only patch up things at time to make it look ok. They are always short and managers never there. Food is horrible and not cooked properly . They keep leftovers in fridge and seen mold on the food just sitting there, roaches in the kitchen . Overall the whole building needs new management and updating fast. I don't recommend this place, you will be paying a lot of money for services not done.

We recently toured several retirement communities in the Sugar Land/Richmond area and were really hoping to decide on Greatwood due to location and ease of access for family. Unfortunately we were very disappointed by the outdated facility. The carpet was old and worn, and overall the place looked like not a dime had been spent on anything new in years, especially compared to other places. There were no residents socializing in common areas, and it just didn't seem to be a "happy place". When we arrived we couldn't find a parking place other than halfway around the building, so parking is an issue also.

Review of Greatwood-Sugar Land, TX

It may have been the dreary weather, but we weren’t overly impressed. It seemed like more of a “facility” than a “community,” although the marketing director emphasized how much they’d do to work with us to make Mom comfortable and happy. Won’t make our short list.

Time for a major change

Greatwood Senior Lifestyle community has gone downhill within the last year or two. The building and ventilation A/C is in dire need of maintenance, the interior need updating and a thorough clean (carpeting is worn and stained), the meals are poor, not nutritionally balanced, served with skimpy portions and not freshly made (food is constantly running out - very unprofessional and uncaring attitude in the kitchen. We would eat with parents and enjoy the meal but now we would never even try...very sad). Overall, the employees are pleasant and friendly but unguided by professionals in senior lifestyle management. Greatwood has strong resident committees but complaints are met with excuses, delays and no change. Management needs overhauling, kitchen needs overhauling, building needs overhauling. We are ashamed to bring visitors to this complex. The rents go up yearly and the service and commitment to residents go down. We would no longer recommend this facility to family or friends.

Check other communities

Greatwood Senior Livestyle has really deteriorated over the last year or so. The building was built in 2000-2001...and updates have been minimal. The carpet in the common areas is worn and stained, water leaks both inside and out, mold and mildew throughout ventilation, lack of proper maintenance, and sadly, the food now served is not nutritionally balanced. In fact, the food is hardly edible. The residents have complained about both the service and the meals but are constantly given excuses such as menu items being restricted by Senior Livestyle - if this is part of a "family-owned" community, I would hate to be family.
As rental rates rise each year, the expectations should also. The rates do not match the poor quality of food and the lack of proper building maintenance. Please explore the many other newer communities in the Richmond and Sugar Land area before you decide...it will be well worth it.

We are very disappointed to learn about your dissatisfaction with our community. Our maintenance and food services departments have completed an internal audit of issues to be addressed for the satisfaction, comfort and safety of our residents and visitors. You will be pleased to learn that we are now in the process of renovating and upgrading many of our common areas in the community and the outside drainage issues. We have also recently changed our daily menu choices offered, which are all reviewed and approved by a licensed dietician. It is our top priority to deliver the highest quality of services and care to our residents! I would be happy to talk with you in more detail about your concerns. We welcome any additional insight into how our management team can better serve the residents and their families. I can be reached at [removed]. Lesha Vaccaro, Executive Director.

HOME

It is a pretty place. It is also very welcoming to everyone. Everyone smiles, speaks and really cares about each other. I visited 17 places. When I walked into Greatwood, I knew instantly I was HOME.

Upscale, but a little impersonal.

This is one of the places we toured when we were looking around. They were a little more upscale than some of the other places we were looking at. I just felt like it was a little impersonal, they were friendly, just impersonal.

It's clean. The staff is excellent there. My mother in law is not taking advantage of the value. There are lots of opportunities to participate and join in. My father in law loves it, he loves the food and, the people are happy there, he enjoys being out among everyone. We really liked the location.

Nice looking place!

We toured this community when we were looking into senior living options for a loved one. This was a nice looking place! It was clean and well kept, and the staff all seemed very friendly. From what I saw during the tour the residents appeared to be very active and social.

Nice staff, just didn't work

When I came and visited, I had no problems with this place. Aside from the day to day wear and tear, it was clean. The staff were all very friendly, and I enjoyed working with Melanie. This just didn't work out for my loved ones. They felt boxed in by the small 1 bed/1 bath unit. The food was the biggest complaint. I tried it and thought it was alright, but the residents say that it is all around not good. Also, my loved ones never got involved with the activities, so that could have possibly helped their transition. Overall, it didn't work, but everybody is sweet and nice!

My name is Erica Willis and I am the Executive Director of Greatwood at Sugar Land. I would first, like to thank you for the feedback. We agree that Melanie does a wonderful job in assisting prospective residents and their families. I am sorry the apartment that was selected ultimately did not have the space desired. In addition to the 1-bedroom apartment we also have a more spacious 2-bedroom floor plan available. Our restaurant offers 3 freshly prepared meals per day with a variety of options to choose from including daily specials. The meals served in our restaurant are driven by the feedback we get from our residents on the food committee, chef chat meetings and resident council meetings. We welcome and encourage our residents to participate in these forums in order to provide honest and direct feedback. I agree with you that getting involved in programs such as Brain Health University, a Fitness Class, Book Club or even joining a committee or participating in any one of our many volunteer opportunities may have made your parents transition from home to Greatwood a better experience. We do appreciate that you trusted us in serving your parents, albeit for a brief time. I want you to know we will keep an open door and we would be happy to welcome them back to Greatwood at Sugar Land if anything changes in the future.

Melanie was very profession...

Melanie was very professional and highly effective at communicating the offerings of the community. We appreciated her openness to the 'Day Stay' concept which could fulfill a more immediate need. The facility was very nice and we appreciated the options of the combination of independent living with added assisted living as an option especially in the care of a couple coming in with different needs. This probably is closest to meeting our immediate needs. The two bedroom apartment (royal oak) that she showed us was by far the most 'homey' of all of the rooms that we saw and would provide the best transition option if they moved today. I liked the indoor carpeted hallways. The facility was very clean and appealing in every way and the festive decorations were a fun touch we didn't see at other places. We didn't see many residents, again due to the time of the day of the tour. Of the residents we saw, Melanie greeted two by name and they responded positively to her as well. We would definitely keep this community on the list of options for the future care of our parents.

Happy with Greatwood

We've been very happy with Greatwood. It's the only facility that we've had my in-laws in so I don't have anything to compare it to but I would say that the value has been very good. My father-in-law is refusing to get involved in any of the activities. We've looking into them for him but he's not interested. She has dementia and we're probably going to have to look at another facility before long because we've had to add night time home health because she needs more supervision.

At Home Again

Two years after my wife passed away, the prodding by my children and my self realization that living alone in my home with all the related upkeep and typical expense, I agreed with the children and decided on Greatwood at SugerLand. After my initial visit, meeting some of the current residents and touring the facilities, I was impressed with what I saw and made the decision to "Move In". The location was also big factor in my decision in the my children and grandchildren live relatively close by.
Now a seasoned resident of 1 year and 7 months, I have found the fellow residents to be of different backgrounds and experiences yet with like needs and desires. Spare time activities are in-place and growing as the request an participation requires. The fellowship and commonalty is inspiring and helpful in the daily life. I STRONGLY recommend Greatwood @ Sugarland to all commers.
