Customer Reviews

[Name removed] took me on a tour of Country Club Village when I was looking for a place for my 86-year-old mother and stepdad. Overall, the place was lovely. The carpet in the front areas near the lobby could stand to be replaced, and the cleanups on the salad bar could be quicker, but I am being really picky about a place that was otherwise very clean and well laid-out.

The pros: The rents are comparable with similar communities I saw and called about but can be lowered using the pricing options. (The residents pay a higher fee to move in, which lowers the rents and pays for itself in six months or less.) The apartments I saw were very nice, with fresh paint and cleaned carpets. They have a full kitchen with dishwasher rather than the scaled-down kitchens in other communities. There are several activity rooms, all immaculate. The residents looked happy, engaged and well-groomed. Several visited and joked with [name removed] during my tour, and she is clearly liked. The food was good and plentiful on the buffet. Snacks and beverages are available in the snack room. They have buffet dining. Diners are called to the buffet according to section, so the residents don't have to stand in line for a long time. There is open seating, so the residents can change their dining companions at will. I really like the volunteer ambassadors who make newcomers feel welcome and show them the ropes. This would be huge especially for residents who come in without a spouse, though for couples too. Although this is an Independent Living community, caregivers are available onsite (or can be hired from outside) to provide many of the personal and health-related services the residents may need. There is a Travel Plan, which allows residents to travel to other Sunshine Retirement Living locations and stay at no charge. Overnight guests are allowed and eat for $8 per meal. Or guests can stay in a room for $85/night and eat free. Of course, those rates might change in the future.

The cons: The first-floor apartments I saw have tiny patios, just enough to put a chair and small table, and some of the apartments split a double-sized patio. The patio views are not scenic. Even the ones that face the creek, also face their neighbors' outdoor a/c compressor units. (I guess that's what they are.) There are no courtyards or garden areas. The calendar states there is pet therapy but on the day I visited, they only showed a video of animals. The activities director told me that live animals do not come in regularly. Many of the residents have pets, so there are dogs around anyway. There is an apartment transfer fee of $650 should the residents want or need to change the location or size of their apartments. The $2,000 community fee is steep compared to the other communities I called on.

My mother and stepdad decided to stay in California to be close to his doctors. But Country Club Village remains on my list of three communities I would have them consider should they decide to come to Hot Springs. I am giving it a four-star rating instead of five only because of the lack of a courtyard for socializing outdoors.

Everything is fabulous

This facility is wonderful with fabulous food, numerous activities that are well organized, the friendliness atmosphere, and they keep everything very clean. For their food, they serve the main meal at noon with two entrees. It’s a buffet style so you can just get what you would like and sit down. The dining area sits four to a table with linen table clothes and napkins. They have wonderful salads. As for their activities, they have everything from bingo to line dancing to bag baseball and exercise. If you don’t participate that’s a personal choice. The activities are well promoted with announcements every morning at breakfast. They also have it writing to keep all the residents updated. They also have transportation services. Every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday you can set up doctor’s appointments. They have been very helpful with my mother. Every Wednesday and Friday they organize a special trip for the tenants such as Walmart or different outings. If you need to be somewhere and are unable to take their transportation service they will help you get a cab at a reasonable price. The staff team is just so helpful. Not only the staff, but the other people that live there are fabulous and friendly. My mother can socialize with anyone as much as she wants to. They offer cleaning for the apartment once a week and housekeeping does a good job with that. They help my mother with storage when she first came in. Housekeeping changes her sheets routinely and my mother can do her own laundry. The laundry area is right near her room which makes it convenient for her. If you need more assistance they do have that availability for you to contract people to provide assistance if need be. All in all I highly recommend this facility. The location itself has a very open atmosphere, they have a fire place, and it is two stories. They also have an area outside that they call the “outdoor trail” that you enjoy walking through.

I can not say enough about how great this community is. The food is good and they deliver the meals to our room. The staff are excellent and accommodating. They allow pets and I would highly recommend this community.

Cozy Community

We had a nice tour of this community. Everybody was very kind and welcoming. The community looked very cozy and homey. From what I saw everything was nice and clean. The staff was informative and answered my all questions. It was a lovely experience, and this is a kind community.

Excellent Care

This is a nice community. The staff is nice and caring. The meals are good and offer a good variety. They offer alot of great activities . They offer great care and we would recommend this community for other families.

The location is very accessible and clean. The [physical buildings themselves need some TLC in little spots--but not pervasive. Watch corners; need to cover the corners with clear plastic to prevent wheelchairs from knocking off the plaster. One of the repainting jobs did not look as though it was sanded and primed prior to the repaint. However, it was super, super clean! The staff was wonderful!!! Food was great!

The employees go past in help from what we expected with always a smile.
Everyone is so friendly and helpful. We especially appreciate the help of the ambassadors.
During the ice, food was brought to us. The food is ex ordinary delicious
The roads were scraped and salted at 9 at nite as well as sidewalks cleaned off from the ice.

Great place for Mom

The "studio" is a small 1bedroom with fully equipped kitchen. The first floor appt. has direct access to porch, yard and parking. Mom loves the 3 meals a day in the dining area and each meal is a social event. Staff are helpful. Home health service providers have easy and frequent access to help mom with prescribed needs.
