Review of Clarebridge of Grand Blanc

My girlfriend was recently moved out of Clarebridge after living there for about six months. The care was very mixed. Some days it seemed to be good, and other days very poor. Her bed linen did not seem to be changed regularly, nor were her clothes regularly washed. During the last month or so she didn't seem to get regular showers, either. Apparently, the management had stated to her family that changes of linen and layout of fresh clothes, as well as providing daily showers WERE NOT part of the regular care, but would cost an additional $800-900 extra per month for each service.
During her stay she was routinely [removed] by several residents, both on personal and religious grounds. When I brought this to the staff's attention, they indicated they were aware of the problem. Apparently they never took any actions to alleviated the problem, however, during any visits where I observed the issue. I would, however, walk my girlfriend out of the immediate situation.
Another problem, too, was the constant pressure from staff members to attend evangelical religious services and bible study classes, as well as to adhere to the personal religious beliefs and behaviour of the staff members themselves. This seemed to especially be a problem with certain black staff members. Pressure from the staff seemed to continue unabated until the resident either gave in and complied, or left the facility. Apparently, similar pressure from other residents was also encouraged as well, or at least allowed. There seemed to be no effort made to be inclusive of the religious beliefs and practices of the residents, other than evangelical christian ones. I never witnessed any clergy visits, for instance, except by evangelical christian clergy. It seemed quite clear that the residents were being treated as a captive audience, and were being expected to conform.

Fed up RA

I don't know how there are so many 5 star reviews for this place. The resident assistants are amazing, but management makes it impossible for them to give the care that the residents deserve and pay for. All management cares about is making sure beds are filled. The RA'S always communicate to the nurse and ED about problems with the residents and changes in condition but they do nothing about it. They wait until something major happens before acting on it instead of taking care of it right away. Always understaffed and forced to work short, the RA'S just simply can't do their job like they should be able to. It's a shame, this could be a great place for residents if the management was as caring and compassionate as the RA'S are.

Excellent Experience

This was our second choice for a community for my father. I was impressed with the staff and the facility. The rooms were very nice, a little small, but some of the nicest we have seen. Even though a bathroom was shared, the rooms themselves were separate. Very happy about that. The only thing was that it was a little to far away from us. But would definitely choose this as our second choice.

Nice looking place

We toured this location when we were looking into care options for a loved one. This was a very nice looking community, it was well kept, clean, and the staff were friendly and professional. However, it was a bit more expensive than similar options we saw, and wasn't located as conveniently to family members.

Incredible Unstaffed and Do Not Care

Great sales people to suck you in and tell you about all the services they offer but they are understaffed and can’t follow through with anything. There are residents with falling accidents and some that are walking around with black and blue faces. My father suffered a forth degree back wound that went down to the bone. I could have put my fist in it and they would just tell me that it has been getting better but when I ended up taking him to the hospital they actually had to do surgery on him. The nurse is too young and does not have enough experience. When he went in his weight was 185 lbs and 151 when he left in 2 month that he was there. He got to the point where he was so sick when you would hug him or touch him he was in pain. The manager is Jeff he has a way of sugar coating things and would say that they are taking excellent care of my father and that they just had a state inspection and they passed with flying colors. I asked him if they showed him the condition of my father and he had no reply. I would not say that it was a complete case of abuse but rather a case of neglect. I had to inform them that there was something wrong with him. Mom was concerned with a sore on his toe so when we came to visit him he smelled when we were checking we opened up his depends and there was blood there and he had a big wound down to the bone. We thought the smell was that he had made a mess in his depends but turned out to be the flesh was rotting around the wound. The nurse must be stupid to not notice something like that. I feel like they must have not been bathing him or taking care of him because it was very noticeable. When I called complaining they said if you need to take him out and put him in a different community we could, with no remorse for what was going on. They have like 2 employees for every 20 residents and it seems like they pay them minimum wage because they do not seem to care about their jobs. When I would go visit I would see residents walking down the hallways with their pants down and just overall not very well maintained. When we asked what his weight and blood sugar levels were all I would get told was that the person with those papers wasn’t in or that they currently don’t have access to them. I still have yet to see anything type of monitoring information they were completing on my father. To top it off they continue to send my moms bills even though she had already paid the monthly fee. I would not recommend this community to anybody.

Costs in live with everywhere else

I went to so many places before picking Clare Bridge. It's a Memory Care facility so the activities are not like other places, but the director does a pretty good job taking them on trips and inviting residents to join activities. It's accessible, nice and pretty. The food I'd rate about a 3, my mom tells me sometimes it is good and sometimes it is really bad. Also, sometimes my mom has to make her own bed, three quarters of the day will be over and no one will have made her bed. The service has been inconsistent because some days they make it and some days they do not. I would definitely recommend Clare Bridge of Grand Blanc to others. (I would like to warn others about the Prestige of Grand Blanc, I toured there and would not recommend anyone waste their time on that place. I wish someone had warned me before I contacted them.)
