The community helped me out when my wife was here as a resident. She had a good experience for the time that she was living at the Canterbury Gardens.

Thank You Thank You Thank You

My dad has early onset Alzheimers and has been at The Gardens for almost a year. At first he went during the day while I worked and he just loved it so much he moved in!
They are truly the best. It is clean, staff is very friendly and they really do love their residents. I can't even imagine where we would be without them. He is at the point now where he doesn't even want to come home with me! He feels safe and secure there and that just means the world to me.
Thank You so much.

Peace of Mind

Mom has been a resident at the Gardens for the past nine months. She has gone from extremely anxious to thriving due to the amazing care she is receiving from the staff! We consider it such a blessing to see her happy, secure and comfortable in this beautiful facility. From the Administrative Staff, reception, nurses and caregivers we have found everyone extremely compassionate, not only to Mom, but our entire family. Communication is great, they keep us well informed about her medical and emotional needs, as well as activities at the Gardens.

We can't thank them enough for the reassurance and peace of mind they provide for our family!!

Nice Facility

Placing loved ones in ANY care center is difficult but 'The Gardens' is a wonderful home, The facilities are welcoming and clean, the staff is fantastic. Like most facilities, the food is not the best but acceptable. It is costly, but most care facilities are expensive. Would recommend this facility.

What I like about Canterbury Gardens

My mother is a very social person. Canterbury Gardens has been very good for her because of this. Mom has Altzimers, but she still loves to be around people. She also loves to give kisses and to nurture others. It has given her lots of opportunities to do that. Because of this, she has basically stopped obsessing about things. I use Canterbury Gardens as a day care facility for her. It works very well for me. I also have a care giver at my home frequently that help in other parts of her care.

Canterbury recently did just go into quarantine because of an upper respiratory infection there. I suppose that happens to places like that. There are a lot of elderly people staying there and a lot of people come and go. So mom is quite bored right now. I look forward to being able to take her there again.

I also appreciate all the activities that they attempt to keep their charges involved in.

a blessing

my mother has been at the gardens for alittle over a month, and I have been very pleased with the care and the compassion for my mother and my family. the staff is very caring, the rooms are very clean and orderly. what I appreciate the most is the time the staff will give me to answer any questions I have about my mother. they call
me when necessary and always keep me up to date on what
my mother is doing and how she is feeling. thank you so much gardens for your care and I thank GOD very day that my mother is in this wonderful home.

A blessing to our family

I prayed for help for my family to be able to make the best decisions for Grandma and Papa. I feel like the Garden has been a huge part of that. It seems ever since Papa started to visit on a respite basis that the answers have come bit by bit as they have been needed. Now he lives at this lovely facility I sort of feel bad calling it a facility because it is much more than that to us all. It is Papa's home. Each of the family members are met where they are at in the process toward acceptance of our situation. The staff are well picked and seem happy at their careers and therefor exude that to the residents. Papa is the happiest I have seen him in years. I only hope we can find a place like this for Grandma that will fit her needs as well when the time comes. So we won't be concerned how she is doing on her own.

Peace of Mind

After several years of bringing my husband here for respite care, I finally had to place him permanently because of falling, wandering and increased dementia. It was an easy transition since he was familiar with the people and place. He had been resistant to showering so I'd bring him in for an hour and they would shave, shampoo and shower him. It was nice to bring a scruffy old man in and go home with a happy, clean handsome guy. The facilities are beautiful, the smell is nice, the caregivers are wonderful, often joking with those who respond well to that. They tailor care to the individual. For instance my husband often fell out of bed so now his mattress is on the carpet and he is not in danger. My life has changed so much for the better, knowing he has great care. I love this place!

My dad's personality is known and nurtured

My family and I are quite pleased with the care my dad receives at the Gardens. It is a the atmosphere is calm, it is a beautiful facility and smells clean. More importantly all of the staff there, know each of the residents as individuals. The residents there are always cared for with dignity and respect and as much personal touch as possible.
I understand that there can be some guilt issues for people when it is time to place family members but I know I made the best choice for my dad. I am there several times a week and like what I see. I have enjoyed my visits and all of the residents as well as the staff who always make me feel welcome. I have NEVER had a communication issue at the facility. In fact, they assist us regularly in communication issues with health care providers.

Thankful

Canterbury gardens is full of very kind staff..they have truly improved my aunt's quality of life! As well as been a huge help while we were selling her home. I would like to say thank you to Nic, Gretchen and the caregivers for all of their support and patience with our family through out this whole process. We are so thankful she is there.

Thank Goodness for the Canterbury Gardens!

The Canterbury Gardens was so good to educate and support me through a tremendously difficult time when I learned my mother had dementia. The Alzheimer Support Group was key to my survival!! Though the guilt is hard to swallow in placing my mother in an assisted living facility, I knew I wasn't able to do it alone. The Canterbury Gardens team was able to give her love, dignity, respect and compassionate care. The staff was educated on how to approach someone who has behaviors. I have no regrets knowing that I had made the right decision even though it was an emotional one!

Memory Care

All of the people that work at Canterbury are very caring and are always there for you about any concern you might have about your love one, I have always said the people that work at Canterbury are my Fathers Angles, they watch over him, care for him, keep him safe, my Father and my self are very Blessed. Best Memory Care you will ever find.

A wonderful place

My father has been living at Canterbury Gardens for six months and I could not be happier with his care. I love the home - like environment and the social interaction he has, the cheerful and friendly staff, and how clean everything is. When medical issues have occurred the nurses have been right on it and contacted both his family and his physician. I also appreciate how we, his family, are encouraged to participate in both his plan of care and the activities at the facility. I have visited at all hours and have, without exception, been greeted by cheerful, competent staff. My father receives the best care in the most pleasant environment possible. I am grateful to all the staff for providing such a place during a very difficult time in my family's life.

Workers love what they are doing and take excellent care of their charges.

We moved my father from another facility in Longview because he suffered from dementia and they were not able to keep him The Gardens was our first choice but they had no beds so we placed him else where. When a bed opened we moved him and what a change it was. He went from a four person room to a two person room and had room to have a tv and chair in his room. He was able to roam around the home and was kept safe. From administration all the way down to the lowest worker and experienced nothing but loving care for my father. All the people that worked there were careful to see that my dads needs were met and they did it with a smile on their faces. The nurses were very professional and really kept up with all the meds my dad needed from ordering to administrating them. I never experienced seeing care people going about their business with love and caring for the person they were taking care of before. They truly liked what they were doing and it showed in the care that my father received. I would recommend this home to anyone that is in need of a caring place to take care of your loved ones. Everyone was great!!!

Our family highly reccommends the Canterbury Gardens

My Great Aunt is a resident at Canterbury Gardens facility. My Family is thrilled with the level of loving care our aunt receives and the generosity of this facility. Not only does this facility have great activities for its residents making their lives much more enjoyable, but the staff at the Canterbury Gardens has also worked with our family allowing us to partially pay for her care while we were waiting to sell her home. Our family highly recommends this facility!

Don't Go There

This Care facility has a terrible communications problem! From upper management to the workers on the floor. I witnessed it all! After I had seen and experienced enough, it took me 10 days to get my husband out of there! I wouldn't place my dog at that facility!

We at Canterbury Gardens are deeply saddened by this particular situation and understand the disappointment that the family must feel. It is rare and unfortunate when it happens but sometimes a community and a resident are not a good fit for a variety of reasons. While staying with us for almost five months, this resident received excellent care during his respite stay and also when the family decided to move him in full time. We express our sincere apologies for any inconvenience that the family has experienced. Canterbury Garden’s team has worked diligently over the last few years and recently earned a Certificate of Achievement from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services along with a zero deficiency state survey in 2014. Our highest priority as health care providers is the care and comfort of our residents. And we will continue to strive for excellence in this area.

Very helpful

Very helpful and kind staff, They make my family member feel valued and as if they look forward to seeing him. They also are good at keeping our family in the loop.
Our family member likes it at the facility and loves having the people to visit with especially the staff. The staff seems respectful and seem to fit this work well.

Caring and helpful staff

We're very pleased with Canterbury Gardens! Just about every person who works here is outstanding! Gretchen in particular is wonderful. They're all very caring and helpful, and are always happy to help with any request you might have.

From the Community

Canterbury Gardens a Koelsch Senior Community, is exclusively designed for residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. Selecting a home for your loved one with memory loss is one the most important decisions you and your family will ever make.

At Canterbury Gardens we form a supportive partnership with each family to provide the level of care, compassion, and attention your loved one deserves. To facilitate this, we ask for guidance from family members regarding your loved ones needs and personal preferences. We also invite families to bring personal furnishings and items to create a familiar atmosphere for your loved one.

Our 24 hour on-site licensed nurses provide nursing services whether it’s in the middle of the night or on weekends. While some communities utilize nursing assistants or trained-on-the-job med-techs, we have Licensed Nurses providing medication and treatment management. Nurses are on-site 24 hours to make key decisions in emergency situations and recognize changes in a resident's condition.

With local partnerships additional services include therapists, audiologists, Hospice supporting residents through end of life, podiatrist, and others.

Activities are offered 7 days a week that provide mental stimulation, and socialization into everyday life. Therapeutic arts, and crafts, cooking, bible study, exercise, reminiscing, music, and pet therapy are just a few. We encourage families to engage in our activity programs with their loved one. We concentrate on the activities each resident can do rather than those they can no longer perform.

Our Respite (short stay) or Care by the Hour Programs allow family caregivers time away for personal appointments or vacations. Respite Care may also be helpful for medication management, temporary supportive care, and to introduce the services and amenities offered at Canterbury Gardens.

Koelsch Senior Communities has been serving seniors for over 50 years with the simple philosophy: “Treat each resident with the respect they deserve and the special attention they need.”
