synopsis of New Horizens experience

hi, New Horizons staff is helpful and dedicated to making things right. I have found they listen to you and do their best to make it right.
The community offers many activities and trips so one can choose whichever is of interest.
In the 420 building there were many occasions to talk with and meet other independents.
I have since moved the newly opened villas because this apt included a patio. So, there is much for anyone to do or participate in.
Also, perspective residents usually talk with another resident to answer questions by a non staff person.

best decision I made this year

I have been at New Horizons since June. Everyone has been very welcoming. The apartment is spacious and I love not having to shop for, cook or clean up after dinner! There is always a choice of entrees at dinner and the food is good. Great home-made soups!

Visited New Horizons in Marlborough [date removed]. Met with [name removed], who was very informative and gave me a tour of the facilities, along with a brochure with information regarding programs, living options and amenities. It was a good visit.
Concerned that the apartment sizes would be too small for my in-laws, but everything else was positive.

I toured this community for my father, and his needs. My tour went well, it was a nice experience. The community looked nice, and everything appeared to be well-kept. The staff was kind, and helpful. They answered my questions, and everything with well overall.

seems this does not match my desires; I don't want senior housing. I want retirement community where I have walking trails and activities and ablility to walk dogs

Accommodating Community

This is a nice community, and I would recommend it. They were very kind, and accommodating. The staff was very helpful, and kind. There are plenty of activities offered for the residents. The meals are nice. The community looks great, they do a very good job with the cleanliness. [Removed] from a place for mom was very helpful as well. This is a great community.

Visit went well & the place is emasculate and very easy to get around. I did not like having such small refrigerators in the rooms. The staff and people who I met were very friendly. I should have used a list of prepared questions, because I didn't ask a lot of them, which had to do with general room upkeep. I need to print out the Touring Checklist that you recommended. I don't have a printer so I will have to find away to get copies before I visit another place.

I toured this community and really liked the staff. We did not want a community that was big. He wanted a certain type of the community. The staff was caring and nice and it was a lovely community. We did like the variety of the meals. Families might want to tour this nice community for the care of a loved one.

The staff we met at this community were nice, however they did not seem as outgoing with the other staff members as the community we chose. The community was clean.

The community is very warm and welcoming from first visit forward.

New Horizons is a beautiful facility. It is spacious and always seems to be well run. It is always clean and airy here. The staff is very communicative and pleasant. The other residents here are a joy also.

Very nice place!

We toured this community while looking into senior living options for a loved one. New Horizons at Marlboro was a very nice looking place, and it was our second choice out of all of the communities that we toured. The facility itself was well kept and clean, and everyone seemed very friendly. It just seemed a bit larger than what my loved one would be comfortable with.

30 day respite care

My parents were at New Horizons for a 30 day respite/rehab stay following her hip surgery. The staff there were incredibly responsive about working out their admission with very little advanced notice. It was a fabulous experience and wonderful place. I hope they return when they feel ready to transition from their home to assisted living.

Great choice after very thorough review of assisted living facilities.

We checked out 6 facilities over 2 days. Based on all criteria (in addition to my Mom knowing some of the residents) NH was her first choice. The monthly service fee was substantially less than all other choices. This choice was the best value for us. In one short meeting we were able to take care of almost all of the paperwork. Mom has been in almost a week now. The staff is extremely friendly/helpful. The residents are so happy. The building is kept immaculate. The food is delicious. There is an abundance of activities available every day. The grounds, the chapel, the fish pond, the greenhouse are all beautiful. We are confident that if/when the time comes that Mom needs more care, we have no doubt she will be well cared for. There is a peace of mind that comes to both Mom and her family knowing that all her needs are being met and she is happy and dealing with so much less stress. Highly recommend New Horizons and so happy that we made this choice.

As regards the $30,000 entrance fee, we have found that this amount is comparable to other similar communities in the area. Additionally, unlike most retirement communities, New Horizons refunds 100 percent of this fee upon departure. These 100-percent refunds are always made within 90 days (and typically within 45 days) of termination of a Resident Agreement.

Additionally, we are currently offering a “rate freeze” for all residents, which guarantees no increase at all in “room and board” charges for at least their first five full years of occupancy. This special offer applies to all fees for lodging, meals, housekeeping, activities, local transportation, water, heat, air conditioning, electric service, etc. We would be delighted to answer any questions you may have about this or other aspects of life at New Horizons.

Very nice place, and good food!

Things seem to be going very well at New Horizons! It really is a beautiful place, and I think they do a great job looking after our elderly loved ones. The staff have all been very friendly and helpful, and they do a great job keeping the facility clean and well kept. From what I have heard from my loved one they do a great job with the food as well!

The facility had an upfront buy-in fee that didn't work with our current circumstances. However, if it is within your means this place looks incredible!

Almost Like Home

New Horizons is a beautiful, first rate facility. It is beautifully maintained and provides a wide range of activities. Staff appear to be universally motivated to make this a wonderful home for my mother.

Transition was difficult for her. The transitional services did not live up to advance billing.

Meals are well prepared and portions are exemplary. This setting provides significant socialization. Table assignments are made for residents. It is important for the resident to have an assignment that is socially beneficial.

The rooms are extraordinary. Her apartment is a source of great pride for her.

Very nice, did not like the large deposit

This was one of the places we looked at when we were looking for care for Mom. I had to start looking for options on very short notice, and I appreciated that they were able to get me in for a tour so quick. The administrator was friendly and helpful during our tour. The rooms were very large, and nice looking, as was the facility itself. I was not thrilled about the very large deposit that the community wanted, and that was one of the reasons I ended up selecting another community.

Very nice, but very expensive

This place looked very nice during our tour, but it was much more expensive than others we looked at, and didn't look that much better. This one also had a large upfront buy-in fee, which we weren't comfortable with.

Great food, friendly people

It's excellent, we've had no problems so far. They keep people very active, very engaged, their staff is always watching what they're doing. The food is excellent, she loves it, they made the transition fantastic, they put her right away with people that were friendly and she gained all of these friends right away. I couldn't think of anything they could improve on.

What we liked about this place was you rented and did not buy. Also, we liked a refundable entry fee ($30,000) in case we wanted to terminate residency. We also liked the food options very much.

ASSISTED LIVING
For those who need help with any combination of daily tasks, such as dressing, bathing, medication reminders, and other activities, assisted living at New Horizons may be the ideal answer. The on-site home health agency, Care Solutions, Inc., manages an extensive array of individualized services. Customized care plans are arranged for each assisted living resident to promote dignity and independence. As a resident’s needs increase or decrease, the services are adjusted to meet these changes. All care is supervised by a licensed nurse who is scheduled on-site 24 hours.

FULL-SERVICE RETIREMENT LIVING
Residents who generally enjoy a very active lifestyle but prefer to forgo cooking and cleaning and other household work reside at New Horizons without a service plan for personal care. They rediscover the joys of socialization in a genuinely exciting place filled with opportunities to engage in fitness, arts, discussions and more.

INDEPENDENT LIVING AT THE MEADOWS
There are 154 full sized apartments adjacent to the main New Horizons building on the same beautiful campus, for residents who still want to prepare some (or all) of their own meals and take care of their own housework, etc. Residents in these units still have access in case of emergency to the 24 hour on-campus nurses, and they are guaranteed priority access to assisted living accommodations or Alzheimer care should they ever need them. Residents in The Meadows enjoy the camaraderie of other seniors and attend campus events regularly. Dining and fitness packages are available, but most units will include either breakfast or dinner in the monthly service fee.
