One of the best places I've seen.

I think Atria is one of the nicest places I've ever seen. The memory care building is a smaller intimate place that is so accommodating for resident's needs. It is actually called Life Guidance. Atria is a completely different company from the last two and is definitely much better.
The Assisted Living building actually has Independent Seniors and several levels of care so there's a mix. Again, one of the nicest, cleanest and friendliest facilities and companies I've ever seen. Happy residents and staff with a wonderful family and homey feel to the place.

Poor place

My Mom was here in the Memory Care Unit since it’s beginning. I would advise anyone to find another place. This is the pits. I had to hire extra help to be certain that my Mom was taken care of properly. After Mom passed away, it took two days before I heard from anyone at Atria. Don’t believe that someone tried to contact me earlier. I have saved my phone records and there was no call from Atria until Monday morning at 11 approximately. Mom passed away Saturday morning at 1:10 AM.


Atria Senior Living is the New name and company. A top-notch company with wonderful new management and very friendly, caring staff. We toured many places but Atria was the best. Well rounded activities schedule, open dining and beautiful property. We feel very satisfied with our choice.

Not everything that glitters is Gold

I had a very bad experience with my mom at Atria Tamarac Memory Care Unit. We chose this place because we were told all employees have a special training in Alzeimers and Dementia. My mother has vascular dementia. Since day 1 you could see the lack of professionalism and training. Atria Tamarac was Brookdale before and the transition was tough. The Director of the ALF resigned after Atria’s acquisition and they were sending interns positions to cover. We has 3 intern directors in 7.5 months. This situation really affected their services. The Memory Care Unit was basically running by the CNAs because the Director had to take care of the two facilities.
This unit requires a more professional management team and better prepare / train their care givers. The CNAs try hard but they need to know / learn more about the disease, they need to better understand the population they serve. They need to be more engage with the care of the patients and learn to be more compassionate. My mother spent 7.5 months at their memory care facility and it was extremely difficult; I had to visit every single day because she was not well taken care. I had to shower her, walk her, take her out of her room for meals and in many occasions administer her medications. My mother would get aggressive (common behavior with dementia patients) because they would skip her medications and no one could, not even one CNA assist her. They gave up on her; the CNAs and management. My mother was neglected. They would bring meals to her room and left her unattended during meal times; with no dining table. They would place the tray on her ottoman and forget about her. Sometimes they would come back after 2 hrs and realized she has not even started her meal. Management stopped answering my emails and it was very difficult to reach out to them. Yesterday it was my mother’s last day and the Director could not ever be there to release her. I had to ask for her medications and paperwork before leaving. I would not recommend this place for spanish speakers. Even though my mother is bilingual, it would bother them when she reached out to them in Spanish. The place is very clean, looks nice but the care is a 5/10; pretty bad I would say.

Fantastic facility ...more like a hotel for seniors!

Residents are very involved and partake in a wide scope of activities that run all day. Dining is all day and open, i.e you can eat whenever and whereever you want in the dining room. Units have an enclosed porch off the LR. Kitchens are being upgraded with new move-ins. Pull cord and and pendant alarm system in case of problems. Respite available, however they only provide minimal furniture (bed, couch for LR) and they recommend a 1 month respite stay (others let family decide however aim more to a 2-wk stay)

I was very pleased with my overall experience. I reserved an apartment for my mom. She will be going from rehab to live there. The staff was very helpful and informative. I look forward to having reside there.

Informative Tour, But Not The Right Fit for Us

I had a lovely tour of this community. Everyone was kind to my family, and I. The community looked great, everything was very well-kept. The staff was polite, and friendly. My tour guide was kind, and informative. My questions were answered. My concerns were that due to my mothers condition she needed certain safety measures. This community didn't have some of the safety measure I needed for my mother, and her needs.

Not impressed

The caregivers were nice and they do offer some activities. The food is ok. I am not happy with this community. My loved one had a few falls and they advised us when he was in the hospital that he would not be able to return as they are not able to provide the care he needs. They requested we hire a full time caregiver. While the community is nice I did not like the way they handled this situation.

Not a good look!

This community was nice enough, but all that did not matter. The woman that gave us the tour was very rude. She was acting like answering questions for us was upsetting her. I wondered if she was this way with us how is she going to treat the residents.

Still a Work in Progress

It is still a work in progress for my mother in law with her move to this community. It is a good, safe community, with kind people. The staff is good overall. It is a lovely community, and my mother in law is taking some time to adjust to it, but we know she is in a good place, and receiving good care.

A Good Tour Of This Community

I toured this community for my mother and her needs. My tour went well , this is a nice community. The community appeared to be well-kept, everything I saw was very nice and clean. It was a good experience. This is a nice community with kind people.

Being on University Drive is a minus for me. Too close to the city. The facility is older and perhaps overdue for the ongoing renovation.

They have been wonderful.

They have been wonderful. We are very happy with Horizon Bay. It was the first place we looked at and nothing we looked at after could compare, so we moved here. I think they deserve a 5.

Very Impressive Dining Area

We are very satisfied with this community and everything they have done. My mother has adjusted very well to the community. They do very good job with keeping my mother's room and the facility very clean. Th staff is great, they keep me very inform. They are very responsive to my concerns. She stays very busy with all the activities they offer. I'am very impressed with the food, the dining area is like a restaurant. She is receiving good care and I would recommend it.

Review of Horizon Bay Tamarac - Tamarac, FL

This Brookdale property blended the Independent Living Assisted Living residents which I find advantageous as once my parents are settled they dont have to move when their abilities start to fail. The Open Dining room allowing residents to eat when where they wanted rather than at assigned tables and assigned times

Wouldn't do it again

This was a convenient location for me between work and home. Place is fairly maintained although when Mom's AC broke it was a several day process to fix. The access is in the bedroom closet. They left Mom's clothes on her bed on two different trips. If Mom could take care of putting those things away, she would not be in assisted living.

Place is ok if you don't need assistance. Some staff is very helpful and caring, but Just as many can't be bothered when help is needed. Mom pays for med management, many issues with their "state of the art system". When Mom is sent to the hospital they send out of date med lists and then one that is updated. There process does not allow for the removal of the list of meds from when she first arrived. Took 4 days in the hospital before it was straightened out last time and was overridden with out of date paperwork sent to the hospital on her last ER visit. Also had a computer glitch recently and many of mom's meds were discontinued. I was told the doctor must have done it. I knew that wasn't true. Had to insist on knowing who made the changes before I was told it was a computer glitch they knew about. I would have thought that if they knew it, they would pass that along to all staff to double check to ensure proper meds were being given.

I have friends up north with parent's in assisted living. We compare notes. Mom gets less care for a higher cost, very disappointing.

If I had it to do again knowing what I know now, I would make a different decision. Without placing Mom elsewhere, I can't say this isn't par for the course in this area, just have to hope it isn't. I have been seriously considering a change, but researching says change is detrimental for someone with dementia.

I like this place and would probably choose it for my mom but they do not accept Medicaid.

Staff Was Above And Beyond

Right off the top of my head I can't think of anything they can improve on. As far as positives, they were just absolutely so friendly and so knowledgeable and helpful. They really went above and beyond and were really friendly and very nice.

Moving Mom

The staff was very helpful in transitioning Mom over and very supportive of Dad through the process. Continual updates was very important for the rest of the family since we live so far away.

smooth transition

The marketing department (Ryan) made the transition for my father into Horizon Bay Tamarac extremely easy. he was available at any time to answer any question, and really went out of his way to make the transition both for my dad and for the entire family extremely smooth and painless.

Overall I loved this community.

I toured here, it's very nice. It's clean and the staff is friendly, everyone was nice. My only disappointment was that they did not have a lock down community when I first came and visited. I understand since then they have changed to a lock down community. The community itself, and the grounds were well kept, and clean. The dining room looked excellent. They offered us to come for a meal, though we did not partake at the time of the tour. They had a very nice variety of activities available for the residents. Overall I loved this community.

Pretty good

They’re pretty good. See for yourself. I tried the food and I was pretty impressed. They could use some more parking, but it is what it is. They were pretty good all the way around. If you’re looking for help for a loved one, they’re worth considering.

DANGEROUS PLACE!! BEWARE!! My mother was a resident there. I called & asked them to have her medications (8) ready the following day as I was taking her out overnight. I arrived there approximately 6:30 PM on that Friday evening. When I went to get her medications, I was told by the nurse (or aid) that they were completely OUT OF ALL OF HER MEDICATIONS!! Unbelievable! Well, they told me they sent a fax to the doctor's office about 2:30 PM & he never got back to them - so apparently they just let it go - didn't it even occur to them to pick up a phone & call him? Duh!! What uncaring idiots, & who knows how many days before that she didn't receive her meds?? You think she ran out of all 8 at once?? She would have gone the whole weekend w/o them if I wasn't there. I had to track down the doctor on call, he had to dig up her records, & I had to run to the pharmacy before it closed, & by now my mother missed meeting her friends from out of town for dinner who she hadn't seen in a long time & whom we had made plans with to meet several weeks before. She was very upset. The next day, I realized that the nurse, or aid at Horizon Bay did not give me the complete list of meds, & I again had to track down the doctor on call & run back to the pharmacy again. When I told the manager of the place, Adam Ort, he could care less. I called Brookdale's (the corporation who owns the place) corporate offices, & they never even called me back - shows how much they care about their residents!
Also, my mother has psoriasis on her scalp, elbows, & knees, which were crusty, bloody & itching her like crazy cause they didn't put her medication on her. This is a MOST UNCARING, DISGUSTING PLACE. They were cited by the AHCA that rules & laws were violated at the time of their visit & they (Horizon Bay) received a statement of deficiencies from them


WARNING! DANGEROUS PLACE!! DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE, OR ANYBODY HERE!! My mother was there & was not given her medication! I called the nurses station on a Thurs. & asked them to have my mother's medications ready for Fri. evening, since I was picking her up & taking her out to dinner with her friends who were in from out of town, & then she was staying over my apt. that evening. When I arrived at Horizon Bay, about 6:30 PM & went to the nurses station, they told me that they were COMPLETELY out of her meds - all 8 of them! I was shocked. They told me that they sent the Dr. a fax at 2:30 PM, but he never got back to them - so I guess they just forgot about it! They waited until 2:30 PM on a Fri afternoon to send a FAX to the Dr. & were so uncaring that they didn't even call him for her medications when he didn't get back to them?? Also, I'm sure that she didn't run out of all 8 of her medications at once - they must have not given it to her for days. I immediately got on the phone & called her Dr, who was not there by then, so I had to track down the Dr. on call. He had to dig up her records, call the pharmacy, & I went to pick up the meds. By the time I finished, my mother missed dinner with her friends, who she had plans with for a long time, & who knows when/if she will ever see them again, as they live up north. She was very upset & so was I. The next day, I discovered that they forgot to tell me about 2 more of her meds, so I had to call the Dr. again, & go back to the pharmacy.

Assisted living process

This was our first time looking for an assisted living facility. The process was much more complicated than we thought and it took several weeks to complete. The facility provided us with assistance in order to facilitate this ordeal. The staff was a pleasure to deal with and upon our arrival for move in day, everyone greeted my mother and made her feel right at home. I would highly recommend this facility and would also suggest you begin the application process as soon as possible.

Nice Place

This place was nice but it was at capacity when we looked at it and had a waiting list so we chose another one. This one was actually pretty good. They had entertainment and their community was engaged. They had a nice dining area too. It looked good but they were at capacity.
