The right choice
We move often for work and have rented numerous apartments in multiple states. We decided to try a +55 community, chose Grovecrest Villas based on location, great staff, wonderful views, no 20 year olds hogging the pool and beautiful apartments. We all have choices and there are plenty of apartments to choose from. This was an excellent choice for us.
I Do Not Recommend This Place
My mother, who is almost 90 years old, just moved into these apartments. Her apartment was not finished when she moved in. A shelf was missing; it is on order. No towel rod in a bathroom, they had to take one from an unoccupied apartment and install it. The garage she rented did not have a door opener for several days, and it was three days before she had a code that would lock it. Anyone could get into it by just pushing the door up. Three weeks before she moved in she told them that she must have a phone jack in her bedroom because that is how her pacemaker is monitored. It was not done. The only phone jack was in the kitchen. II had to call the corporate headquarters in Texas to get someone to run an extension phone line to her room until they could get a contractor to put a phone jack in her room.
There is a glass door to the little deck. There are windows beside the glass door. They have blinds on the window. They refuse to put blinds on the glass door because it is not a first floor apartment. They do recognize the need for the windows to have a blind however! For another $75 they will put a blind on the over the glass and my mother can have privacy in her living room. She now has a sheet hanging over the door. (It is a metal door so simply put in a curtain rod would be problematic.) Now it appears that the outside doors are locked at 5:00 when the office staff goes home. If someone comes to visit, they cannot get in unless they have a cell phone and can call the resident - - who then must come down and open the door so their visitor can get in. What is she supposed to do if she is ill, or simply too tired and not dressed to leave the apartment? It is ridiculous to suppose that she would wait at the outside door if someone called before they left home to visit her. This is senior citizen housing, but not much thought has gone into the planning.
In addition, the covered parking has posts every two parking spaces. If you park in the left slot, the driver cannot open the door. If you park in the right slot, the passenger cannot open the door. There is not much thought put into these. I would never live there and hope my mother does not renew her lease. The price and the hype do not match the services or the planning or the logic. There is no place for a table in the kitchen. There is an island, but you would need to sit on a stool to eat at it, and it is needed for the counter area for food preparation. It is pretty messed up to expect senior citizens to buy stools and climb up on them to eat at the island.
