Very nice and like home. Residents very friendly. Made me feel very welcome. Small facility. Only monthly grocery trips. Many in house activities. $.Very nice price. Drive is 25 min for me. Limited daily menu, but will work with us for dietary needs. Beautiful location. On hilltop. Views are mostly building tho, but can put bird feeder, etc, outside.
Mom is still getting settled in, but thus far we are well pleased. The facility is very clean and the staff is very friendly. It's a really good facility, smaller than other places that I've looked at, which means there's a good ratio of staff to residents. The transportation services Gateway offers is much better than any other that I've looked at. Thus far I really can't think of anything that needs to be improved. Homesickness notwithstanding, mom is getting settled in and liking it.
I'M COMFORTABLE WITH HER AT GATEWAY
I only have a weeks worth of experience with which to evaluate the care services, so I'm holding back on my evaluation there. So far, so good and no complaints but I'm not ready to hand out awards due to lack of observation and my mom has selective memory!
That said, I'll be surprised if I don't because of the way everything else has met or exceeded my hopes for what I could find for my mom - I am so relieved and have no concerns when I drive away.....and that's a feeling I wondered if I'd ever find....
peace with the decisions I made.
I will add that I am one to check various sources for feedback and I got nothing negative on Gateway. Also, Susan has been absolutely accommodating and is competent, professional and caring.....perfect for the job!
My mom's room is a fairly small studio, all they had available now....she's on a waiting list for larger. But she may not move because she loves the beautiful view from her window so much. And, I've fixed it up very cozy for her.
She's enjoying the food! That's a big one! And that's all I can think of that I know to share so far.

My father was at Gateway Villa for less than one month. The Director, Susan White assured us that his need for assistance with ADLs and getting to/from meals would be met. That was not the case. After the aides told me that the Villa is for independent living and the Garden is for assisted living, I asked Susan if my father would be better off on the Garden building. Susan insisted the only difference between the buildings is ability to ambulate. Unfortunately, the staff did not know that and treated my father as an independent regardless of the fact that we paid for the highest level of assistance.
I visited my father 5-7 times a week and he was becoming more and more withdrawn. EVERY time I visited, I found him in bed. Staff told me that he didn’t want to get up so they left him in bed. If he said he did not want to go to the dining room, he didn’t eat. At 8PM one night after missing dinner, he was found sitting in the dining room, obviously hungry. They took him back to his room unfed. He had nutritious snacks in his personal refrigerator and they did not get them for him. When I learned of this, the building manager told me direct care staff are not allowed to get the personal food for residents. Shocking.
Direct care staff are nice and competent, but they are overworked. MANY days there was ONE aid for 30 residents. They count the manager, the part time med aide, and the dietary staff to meet their required staffing ratios. One aid was so happy when she finally had 2 days off in a row over Easter weekend. She said she had worked 15 days straight.
While I was already seeking new arrangements, management informed me that my father wondered outside at night. I do not believe them as he was physically incapable of opening the door they said he exited. They also told me he needed placement in a nursing home. Nursing homes are for people who have medical needs that require professional nursing intervention. My father has none. He doesn’t even take routine medication. He is often incontinent, wears depends, and is disoriented to time and place.
Gateway Villa is a nice place if your loved one can live independently and/or needs minimal assistance. If you are told you have to pay for a higher level of care, I highly recommend you seek assistance elsewhere. My dad has been at Spanish Trails Assisted Living for 4 months now. They have excellent, happy staff who appear to enjoy their work. Despite this facility being smaller and very much like his home, my father has NEVER wondered into other’s rooms or outside. When I visit, he is sitting in the dining or living room. He is happy and thriving. I no longer worry about his care. I know he is getting the care and attention he needs.

They were a nice community.
They were a nice community. They were clean and friendly. After going there we realized it wasn't the right care for our loved one, but that was just because of our individual situation. They did a good job.

There are two buildings. One with 24 hour care and one that's just assisted living. My in-laws are in the assisted living part. My husband's dad grumbled about the amount of money but it's was definitely well worth it. I didn't see any improvements needed. I think it's a marvelous place! They're so helpful and it's so clean and nice that we didn't even want to bother looking at anything else.
