Customer Reviews

Used to be a Wonderful Place.

I am SO disappointed with what has happened with this place. My Mother moved in before Brookdale took over and we loved it. There are wonderful staff members here on the day shift and afternoons but am not sure about nights. Cleanliness is so-so. Most of the nursing staff is excellent and the food recently is Much better, But the staff runs the building the way they want to. Many residents have left and some have died recently. Such a shame. This place a few years back was Full and Happy. Still some very good staff make this a possibility for those who want this location.

Make the move

Please look around for memory care residences that have real activities and enough help to properly take care of your loved ones
The employees try their best but are so shorthanded and all the promised improvements from higher ups never get done
We moved our mom to a wonderful new memory unit and she smiles again
Corporate policy at brookdale seems cash oriented

Grandma died here after only 4 days

It's a sin I have to give any stars to leave a review. This place is a house of horrors. My Grandma went here for a 2 week respite stay so my Dad could have surgery. After 4 days, she left in a body bag!!! There is new management every couple of months and the current air head is the worse I've ever seen!

I left after 2 nights of my respite stay

My respite stay here was so depressing that I left after just two nights. The care here was so bad, the food awful and I just did not fit in with any of the other residents, in fact, the other residents were just sitting around waiting for the end.

mom is safe

mom has alzheimers and we had to move her from up north with very short notice and the staff at brookdale jensen beach was wonderful in helping get all i needed to make this move as painless as possible-

yes there are newer and fancier facilities in area-but the price is fair for a secure unit and the staff is excellent and very caring-

the facilities are slated for some improvements-hope that it is implemented but the kind care overules some new curtains

Respite care at Brookdale Jensen Beach location

My experience was with Respite Care for my mother for three weeks in June 2017 at the Jensen Beach location of Brookdale.

The sales rep [Removed] was very helpful and answered all my questions even when she had to find out the answer. She had not been with Brookdale long(6 months +/-) and was no long working there by the time I returned.

The room was serviceable but sparse even for respite care. The following items were missing and in my opinion should have been provided:

Table - (there is an alcove where one should have been)

Dishes/silverware - (at least one set)I understand most meals are eaten in the dining room however, tea or a snack may be taken in the room - why would you provide a stove & refrigerator but no dishes?

Microwave - this would be far more appropriate than a stove

End table - a small table next to the recliner just makes logical sense - I had to bring my own

The day she took up residence it took at least 24 hours for Brookdale to provide the call button she was to carry with her - the first day is the day she probably needed it the most for questions.

During her stay she misplaced her cell phone(and forgot how to charge it) and I had extreme difficulty getting help for her. Brookdale does not encourage talking to the girls who clean the rooms and usually they are the most knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to helping the residents.

I also left several messages during her stay with questions I needed answered and rarely, if ever was my call returned - I had to keep calling back until I could find someone who was available.

Based on what I was told by the sales rep and the office manager, I am under the impression that Brookdale Jensen Beach has very little experience leasing respite care rooms. The three weeks my mother was a resident were relatively uneventful and therefore acceptable however, I am not confident they would be able to handle a difficult or unusual situation in a prompt, professional manner.

The premises were impressive and clean. My mother said the meals were excellent. I think she would have joined in with more of the activities with a little encouragement. If there was an activities director I never saw nor heard from them.

It is my impression that they were very understaffed, at least in the management area.

My mother was a resident at another facility for several years so I have some experience for comparison.

Hope this helps.

assisted only; 160 apartments; approx $3800 for 1 br.

Nice Tour

Our tour of this community was a nice one. Everyone was kind, and friendly to my family, and myself. The staff was polite, and informative. Our questions were answered. The community from what we were shown looked nice. It was a nice experience, but we find another community that suited our needs better.

Very nice facility, but too pricy for us. I think a one bedroom is $3800/month for independent living.

Very happy!

So far, things are going well and in having a positive experience with this place. The staff is all as friendly as can be, and everyone else is very kind. The apartment I am in is comfortable, with great lighting and housekeeping once a week. I have a friend who also lives here, and we join activities together and she has helped me with settling in. I am happy so far.

absolutely shameful

The memory care unit here should be shut down. Ill equipped, understaffed and mismanaged. I spent a year fighting to have basic, simple needs for my father met here. 99% of the time that I went there my father was wearing someone else's clothes and was in his bare feet. There were NEVER activities taking place unless there was a tour or inspection going on.
Finally after an allegation of one of the aides reporting [Removed] [removed], and a so called, 'investigation' that was little more than a joke, I moved my father to a safe, clean, caring memory care. Brookdale does not care about your family members. Brookdale cares about your wallet. For a year I was told stories of 'what was going to be done'. Nothing ever changed (or I would not have moved my father). There has been no follow up. there was an allegation of abuse. It was 'investigated' and found that it was an 'employee trying to get another employee into trouble'. The one that reported it was not disciplined in any way. What my family has been put through over this past year is horrible. The people at Brookdale did not 'follow up'. Nothing is different. Thankfully the [Removed]. was finally fired, it is just a shame that it took a scandal for that to finally happen. It was clear a year ago that he was in no way capable of his position.
The memory care unit should be shut down.

Respite Care

I was able to place my husband in Brookdale for a 2 week respite stay. Staff was so very helpful in making me feel comfortable and not to worry about him.
Day of check-in all the aides came and introduced themselves. He had a great studio room with Tv and roll in shower.
Also it was during the Hurricane in Oct. and I was able to feel relieved after talking to them about the supplies and people that would be there to assist.
I highly recommend Brookdale .

Emeritus, I've heard did a good job, however, with Brookdales takeover I'd suggest that interested party take a closer look a the assistants provided. We recently, without question, moved my dear father-in-law to a assisted living facility where they understand the definition of assisted. If one should look closely one will find what you get at Brookdale, for over $100- a day, is little more than what you get at and average motel, i.e., room cleaning once a week instead of daily, laundry once a week, and three, average at best, meals a day.

Nice Tour of This Community

I had a pretty pleasant tour of this community. The community looked nice and well maintained. The staff I met was knowledgeable and kind. They were also informative and answered my questions. It was a nice tour, but it wasn't the one for my father and his needs. This is a good community for the right type person.

They Could Have Handled It Better

My dad only stayed here for 4 days. He has dementia and he became very angry when his phone was not set up as expected. It lead to him not wanting to be inside the community and they called the police to calm the situation. He ended up staying at a hotel from the help of the police officer. I just did not understand why they were unable to calm him as they were suppose to provide care for his needs. When I was there for 4 days i was impressed with them but after I left it went uncontrolled. This is not a place for residents with dementia.

If you have a love one of you do not take them to this place horrible have to take my friend out after 17 days

Good experience so far!

Our experience with Brookdale Jensen Beach has been a positive one, overall! They were informative and responsive throughout the whole touring and move-in process, and from what I have heard from my relatives, my loved one has settled in well and really seems to be enjoying herself here! I've heard nothing but good things, so far!

Little Problems

My father in law is now at home with his family due to the fact our experience with Brookdale was an okay one. We just had a lot of little problems that added up. The building is nice looking and pretty clean I feel the staff should be a little more attentive to the residents and their needs. They presented a lot of promises on the tour that they did not follow through with. The food was kinda bland and had no favor to it. He didn't like the food. We just had too many situations with this community and we had to move him back home.

Helpful and Kind

I have nothing bad to say about Brookdale Jensen Beach it was a nice place for the short time that my brother was there. He had a situation that did require him to leave but the staff just was not able to care for him and that is understandable. The community is a very nice and well kept place everything looks really nice. Staff was nothing but helpful and really kind to us. They were very easy going and really easy to talk to about my concerns. One of the residents has mention to us on the tour that the food is amazing it is so good that they have all gained weighted since moving there I thought that was nice to hear. Overall it was a nice experience.

It's a great place!

We had my mother in law here for 9 days just to get some free time. It was a great place.

I am mortified

Things are not going well at all. [removed] They have no idea how it got like that. Not a good situation.Right now he is in rehab and I refuse to send him back there. His clothes were all missing, personal possessions and it was just disgusting. The Memory Care Unit is horrible. You could not even stay in the room because of the smell. We will not be going back. Right now we have no place for him to go. Assisted Living is nothing like this.

They Lie

We agreed to come in and they guaranteed two months free. They would not let me have the room until the end of the month though, but still made me pay for the month. They said we would get that money back, but it was a total lie.

Four Stars

I really can not think of any aspect pertaining to the facility, or to the running of it's operation, that the Brookdale Jensen Beach can improve upon. I would have to say that it is a decent place for my loved one.

work on assisting patients with personal hygiene

Brookdale Jensen Beach staff really need to work on assisting patients with personal hygiene. I feel this area is really lacking. Other than that I am pleased with this facility. It is very clean and the staff are very friendly.

Extremely Helpful

They were extremely helpful. When we were looking for a place for my parents they both had different needs and they just went out of their way to be helpful. Everyone from the receptionist to the executive director was extremely helpful. We had a lot of questions and things changed on what we needed and I just can't say enough nice things about them and having them provide us with information. They were very cooperative.

The Food Could Be Better

Definitely the menu and the food could be improved upon. It is usually just hit or miss. They seem to overcook a lot of their food and I found it is very tasteless. My dad also complains about the maintenance.

They are doing a wonderful job.

They are doing a wonderful job. We are satisfied with it. It's clean and the staff is friendly. They have had really good luck with it so far.

not impressed off our list

Five big stars! My parents feel like they are at summer camp. I want to live here now - so many activities. The staff is the BEST. Very, very pleased. Wonderful place. I agree with others that the north door is not secure.

Their memory care unit was ...

Their memory care unit was small and poorly lit. Seemed very confined.

Dementia care here is very ...

Dementia care here is very depressing. Maybe two stars. Rest of facility seems ok. Average.

They really need to work on the security at the door anyone can just walk in at night.

Some areas are fantastic but, some areas where they keep their garbage in the stairwells are disgusting. It takes some prompting to get them to follow through, the maintenance is slow to respond. There are lights that are out or not working properly. On the way in there is an entryway and after dark, should work on the push button code and most of the time it doesn't after dark I can walk right in. There are two entrances a main entrance where the reception is and another entrance on the north side, and the gate is electronic, and during the day it should be open for people, but once it gets dark it should automatically go or somebody should flip a switch. Sometimes they do but 99 percent of the time the door is open 24 hours a day, security is lacking. Sometimes you'll pull up and the kitchen help is out there smoking, it's bad enough to see tenants smoking, but the help needs to disappear and go smoke somewhere else. It's not very professional. Renee is the executive director and she is awesome, awesome. She is fantastic. I met a few at the beginning and the staff is great. It's not easy to keep track of whether he's getting the right diet, and I'm not sure who to ask about it. Overall I like the facility. It's a new experience for me. The price is fair. Though one day we were late to dinner and they charged five dollars for bringing a tray. Amy in nursing is great. The activities are great. The room was private, he's got a little apartment so he doesn't have to share he's got his own fridge, and Kelly was awesome. I would recommend it to others. I signed him out for one night and I didn't know who to call to keep him another night and I couldn't get ahold of anyone, we just kept him and nobody noticed, we didn't get a phone call or anything. They really need to work on the security at the door anyone can just walk in at night.

I am happy with what I've got right now. Basically they just do escort service to and from the dining room and check on her to make sure that she is OK. I take care of her bathing, but that was my choice. The nurse is wonderful. Overall I am very happy with the place.
They have Bingo, and "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader." They also do beading, yoga, and dancing!

A Little Disorganized

They wouldn't take take my mother because of med compliance. They seemed a little less organized too. First someone said yes, come and have lunch and then said they called back and said they wouldn't be able to take her. There was no body watching the back door which opens up wide. I seemed like for borderline memory care they would want to watch that back door. I didn't see that but that's just my own, personal impression. I was considering having her there. She doesn't have that extreme of memory issues so I wasn't as concerned for her but it seemed odd to me.

Very pleasant

After considering 4 other places we went with Emeritus at Jensen Beach because it is very pleasant and does not feel like an institution or convalescent home. I can only vouch for the memory care side, but they also offer assisted living. The Memory Care Ward is pretty well controlled. It seems to be pretty well staffed, although there can be a bit of turnover at any facility. It seems in some areas Emeritus may be due for modernization, like their billing department. You would think with a large corporation like Emeritus they would have more progressive and modern billing options, but for the most part this is a good place and I would recommend to anybody else who is looking.

So far so good

We have been very pleased with Emeritus. Everything so far has been going good. The staff is really nice and they are on top of everything. They follow through with what they say they will do. We are very happy with them so far.
