Buyer Beware...

To start off, I try to stay away from writing reviews but when a senior care facility seems more focused on bottom line figures than their senior patients….It warrants an honest review.

NOTE: I would read all recent customer reviews to make your own opinions on whether to use their services or not. But I have to echo other people’s displeasure of the care being given to loved ones at Sunrise of Cascade AND point out many issues we found out during and after using them. Just because its a new facility and they allow dogs,..only goes so far. The fact that you hear from people like us stating major concerns,…should concern you.

Sunrises Director, [name removed] is incompetent, very dishonest and is more concerned about money than your loved one. We overheard a conversation in passing where she secured a $20,000 a month care package and began cheering and bragging to other internal office staff. She and staff will tell you “everything is going well” but in reality, they weren’t. They tried to hide items going on in the facility.

We pulled my father out of their facility for 5 reasons.

1. Cuts on his arms: My father ended up with what appeared to be 5 finger nail cuts in his forearm. We were never told anything or told of any concerns but bruising and cuts appeared. The fact that this happened to a point where five finger nails pierce someone’s skin is beyond excessive.

2. Sexual Predator: While taking our father out on a daily excursion, staff told us that there were internal reports of a sexual predator on site (outside). Over the last few years he has been found masturbating to staff and those who reside there. In spite of this, no external communication about this has been given to families.

3. Communication: There was an incident where one of their staff members purposefully removed my fathers walker (although he couldn’t walk without it). Due to this my father fell face forward. What is more troublesome is we had to find this out from a 3rd service provider because it appears the facility wanted to keep this "hush hush.” This was borderline “Elder Abuse.”

4. Basic Care: Our father was admitted to the hospital. Sunrise didn't call us immediately when they noticed a change in his condition. It took almost 24 hours before we personally got a call from Sunrise when they knew there was an acute issue. He wasn't eating or peeing and Sunrise didn't even check his temperature, when in fact he had a 103 temperature and was shaking for that day. This is not the earmark of expert care while paying $5,000-7,500 a month.

5. Violation of Tenant Lease: After giving our 30 day notice of departure we were contacted a few times regarding our departure date. At that time we stated that we would be willing to vacate the room prior the 30 days if the new prospective tenants needed to move sooner…BUT only if we were going to be prorated, and refunded our money when they moved in. If we are going to be paying for a room, there was no sense in rushing to move anything. We didn't hear from the office or a sooner move in date from new prospective tenant.

When we came to pick up my fathers items on the last day he was legally leased till, [name removed] and Sunrise decided to violate my fathers own tenancy rights and removed ALL items from his room. Sunrise didn't place them in a locked location, but instead placed in the facility's common areas where anyone (residents, visiting patrons, staff, etc) could take or rummage through his items. Not once were we called to discuss this nor would we have given Sunrise permission to do so. We trusted Sunrise to protect all his belongings. As a facility Sunrise had an obligation to protect those items. Because of Sunrise’s actions, items were stolen and/or lost.

What happened during my father's stay was unacceptable and I hope for all current and future residents people really investigate and review other peoples experiences so that they don’t experience what we did…BUT most importantly put a loved one through it.

I liked the staff and the facility very much; however, it does not seem like a good fit for my dad. The population is much older and the activities are geared toward that (i.e. Bingo, cards, tea, etc.) My dad is much more active and would need more than that. The accommodations were nice, and the high ceilings helped it feel much less claustrophobic than some other places. I also liked that residents have the same caregivers every day. Unfortunately, I just don't think that the community is the right fit for my dad.

Nice community but not a good fit for mom. Every place is a little different so advice would be to try to tour several places before choosing a community.

Corrective action needed immediately!

I have been in this facility many times visiting family and friends. I have observed residents wait very long periods of time for a staff to assist them with the restroom or other care needs. After residents have pulled their cords for help in their rooms they sometimes have to wait 45+ minutes for a staff member to respond. I have seen family members search the building for staff and have found no one to assist their family member. Many of the staff members out outside together on "smoke breaks" socially with each other while the needs of residents go unmet. This is completely unacceptable, especially with the extremely high rates Sunrise of Cascade charges residents for care. [Removed], I would STRONGLY encourage you to rectify this situation unless you want a visit/investigation from the state licensing agency and the local long-term care ombudsman. Be aware that the family and friends of residents are watching VERY closely as to what goes on in your facility.

Powerful Experience thanks to Sunrise

Very informative staff and friendly. outside grounds were very nice, facility seemed very clean, no bad smells, staff knew all the residences.

Gone down hill

Poor communication, staff is not only unfriendly, they are rough and they treat the residence harshly. The tour was great, but living there was a nightmare. Activities schedule is impressive if only they actually did them. Some of the meals were decent, others looked like they came from a can of dog food. Beware of the dementia care.

Great care given here

They offer a lot of daily activities and mom seems to like playing bingo. The food is good and she is starting to make friends. The staff are friendly and they have been there for her when she needed assistance. This is a nice clean community that offers a great level of care and I would recommend it.

Pretty Nice Tour

This is a nice community. My tour of it went very well. Everyone was very kind, and helpful. All our questions was answered. The community looked very well-kept. It was a pretty nice experience, but not the one for us.

This was a very nice community. The residents looked genuinely happy there. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. The community looked nice and clean and there was no smells. I liked that the residents were out and doing things in the community.

Accommodating Staff!!

The staff have been really good at helping my dad get acclimated in his new living environment. They are very accommodating to his needs and have made him feel right at home the best they can. My dad has recently been participating in some of the activities and seems to really enjoy the arts and crafts program. He has no complaints about the food and has really enjoyed his dinning experience.

People out and about!

The tour was really insightful and the people were knowledgeable. I was able to see that the residents were happy and out doing there stuff. The only reason why we did not go with them was because the location. It was so far.

Staff Need Better Communication!!

The staff at Sunrise of Cascade is not very friendly or don't communicate well. The activities that are offered are going okay. The meals taste good and the community is up-kept. At the moment i would not recommend the community to friends and family. I really hope the staff friendliness can get better.

Worth every bit to know Mom is safe and comfortable

Our Mom was in need of considerable care when arriving. Sunrise made great strides over a very short amount of time to make sure all our mothers needs were met. They went above and beyond helping us set up Hospice care and additional care for my Mother's beloved dog.
We are incredibly grateful for the sense of peace we have knowing our mother is well cared for. We stop in various times thru the day and are always pleased to see how well our mother is doing. The open communication across all levels of care and management staff really helps.

Very nice place, and a welcoming friendly staff!

Overall we're very pleased with how things have turned out at Sunrise of Cascade, I'd give them top marks across the board! My loved one was very reluctant to even consider moving into a senior community, but the staff here did a great job welcoming her and getting her acclimated to her new home. The facility is clean and well kept, and they've got a good activities program to keep everyone entertained. She's really enjoying the social setting.

like it a lot

I like it a lot at Sunrise of Cascade. You get what you pay for here. The staff is really good to all of the residents. They did something special me and my husbands anniversary which was so unexpected. The staff really go above and beyond. The facility has a very homey feel. We just really enjoy it!

We chose this one of others because we just liked the overall atmosphere. The residents seemed to be out and about, instead of just in their rooms. The care also just seemed a little better.

Best place for my parents to live

We moved my Mom into Sunrise of Cascade from another senior living facility in August, 2014. My Mom has dementia, and she lives in the Reminiscence Area for memory care.

First, my Mom is flourishing. She has the sparkle back in her eyes that was no longer there, after being confined to her bed due to the injuries she sustained from neglect at the other place. And their neglect and abuse in denying my Mom the physical therapy she was entitled to. The physical therapists contracted through Sunrise had my Mom up and walking immediately and she continues to walk with her walker to this day. Her bill is 1/2 of what the other sr living place was charging my family because she wasn't mobile there.

I live out of state, and I have to totally rely on communication with all of the staff. It has been a blessing to have the communication that I have with the director, Deb, the managers Emily and Sabrina, as well as the nurses and care givers. They meet every need we have and if they can't, they give us suggestions on who to go to for what we need. I cannot say enough about how responsive all of the staff at Sunrise have been. I've never been disappointed with the lines of communication we have with Sunrise.

Sunrise is the best senior living center I have seen and experienced. I toured many places before making the decision that Sunrise was the best place to move my Mom into, and, now my Dad is living there as well, in assisted living. My dad is 90 years old and still works full time. The care givers scraped off his car and warmed it up every morning this past winter. It can't get much better than that! They cater to all of my Dad's needs and keep me informed on how he is doing. They look out for him knowing he doesn't have family to check on him every day.

I highly recommend Sunrise of Cascade.

Unskilled, poor communicators, no activities

First, I should mention my mother has a very difficulty type of Alzheimer's that includes a lot of aggression and anger. And, my mother did not do well at Sunrise and we moved her out after 3 months. They have very little if any activities for the residents in the memory care unit. They also were not very communicative despite our efforts to learn what was going on with our mom. Their web site claims the staff uses Validation techniques for residents with Alzheimer's but the staff has never heard of that. Finally, my mom got in a fight with another resident who kicked her in the leg. The leg got really infected and the staff blamed my mom for taking her Band-aids off. Eventually, she needed to be hospitalized for her leg wound. So, if you have a loved one with Alzheimer's that doesn't mind sitting around doing nothing all day, then Sunrise might be the place. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

beautiful wonderful place

The place at Sunrise of Cascade is a very beautiful facility, and very non-institutional. The dining room area where they have their meals is very pretty, and the whole place is more homelike.

My only concern is the last day there before she ended up in the hospital, I was not notified as soon as I should have been that she was having some pain and needed to be assisted back to her room. I would have liked to have been informed immediately. That really would be my only concern, that they did not reach out to me sooner to inform me that she was having the pains.

But in that same vein, I received a call from one of the staff telling me about how well she was interacting with the other residents, and I did appreciate them on that instance them proactively letting me know that mom was doing well.

They were phenomenal!

They were phenomenal! They have been extremely gracious, and helpful. Their staff is very caring and compassionate. They were very tender with my loved one and eager to help us and and also engaged in what was going on. The director Deb, is very sharp and eager to be caring with the resident, and also very personal with the family. She was always in the memory care when I visited, she was concerned, and she knew what was going on. They really bent over backwards for us. It was much smaller and homier, than some of the other places. It was a much more personal experience, than some of the bigger places would have been. The food and the activities were good, they kept it clean, but I know it's hard, and in the memory care there were occasionally smells.

Doctor Who Specializes in Parkinson's

When I originally went in they didn't have any openings. They were really nice but they were more expensive and they were further away. They did give me a call within a week when they knew they had an opening available. It didn't quite work out with when she was getting out of rehab but that was a close second. They have a doctor there that specializes in Parkinson's so that would have been great.

Get what you pay for

It was a very nice community. It is on the costly side but you get what you pay for. The food was good and the best part was I didn't have to cook it. I would recommend Sunrise to anyone as long as they can afford it.

A Wonderful Place for MOM

After contacting A Place for Mom, a representative from Sunrise of Cascade contacted me and offered a tour within a very short time so we could evaluate the facility and decide if it was the right place for our Mother who has dementia and couldn't stay in the senior apartment she has lived in for the past 10 years. We thought Sunrise of Cascade was the perfect place for her. She would be safe and most of all happy. It has been hard for her to move away from her friends, but her disease is progressing and we know she will learn to like this new home.
