Real Issues

We are having some real issues at Ocean Front Care Home. They can't seem to get her medications right, they insist on bed rail, which I believe the law states that rails be on the beds, but she has injuries due to the rails. Our favorite caregiver who does speak English is not there on the weekends, so most of the problems occur on the weekends. Some of the staff seems incompetent. We have witnessed a caregiver trying to have her go to the bathroom with the lid still down and my mother-in-law screaming she can't go like that. She needs more fluids, the food is not good, minimal effort is made for preparing the food. The plus side is she has a nice room with an ocean view, and she can smoke. She can be difficult, but most of the staff does not speak English so there is little interaction because of not much communication. Physical therapy seems to be helping, but they seem they would rather the residents be bedridden.

Beautiful location. [Removed] meet me at the appointed time and was very personable and helpful. Now I have to decide what would be best for mom. This place is very bright and has a view of the LA Harbor. One room was small but doable and the other was large with a private bath but may not fit in our budget. Still trying to decide.

Toured. Nice neighborhood. Yard and a couple rooms overlook the harbor and ocean. Cool breezes due to proximity to ocean. Clean, older. Moderately large, private room had French door and access to front yard. Some outside landscaped area. Note: current residents have low capabilities including probable low sociability. Probably best for same type of person. Staff helpful. 2.5-3 Star.

Great View and Very Helpful Manager

My step-mother has a room with a sliding glass door out on to a patio with a great ocean view. I guess it's really a harbor view. You're looking out down toward Newport Beach. They're really great. I like to take her out and she's always ready to go when I get there. Her walker and whatever I need is ready. She seems quite happy over there. They have some activities but not too much because they only have three residents right now and two of them kind of just stay in their rooms. Sometimes I go over there and someone is playing the guitar for her. They're very accommodating with the use of the room. I hung all kinds of pictures in there and all her decorative plates so she' s got all her personal stuff and it feels like home. I feel good about it.

She has her own bathroom and they've got it set up so that the shower is just the back part of the room so there is nothing to step over to take your shower. I think for a handicapped person that's great. The manager is very very helpful. I really appreciate everything that he did for me.

Not the right fit for us

This was a nice home and was very easily accessible but it just wasn't right for our loved one. The backdoor leads into the backyard with leads into a public sidewalk. There is also an apartment complex that looks down on it. These are just thing we knew our loved one would not like. Overall it was a good home with good staff just not the right fit for us.
