From a technical standpoint, Evergreen is not a city. Rather, this area of around 9,000 residents is a census-designated place. All technicalities aside, Evergreen is more or less thought of as a suburb of Denver. Yet despite the fact that it so close to the Mile High City - it's roughly 15 miles away - its geographic placement in which it is enveloped by several thousand acres of open space and the majesty of the Rocky Mountains makes it feel like it is an entire universe away. This makes Evergreen a terrific place to consider for golden agers that want to be far enough from the affects of big city living to enjoy a little pristine peace, yet not that far to where they can't get the occasional taste of metropolitan living. It is also a great community to partake in the singular experience that a fully accredited senior living facility can offer, as this non-city city is home to a vast host of these facilities; each of which carries the important goal of allowing its golden age residents to live life to its fullest capacity.
The main appeal to Evergreen is the fact that it is so enveloped by nature. It is tucked in the midst of several parks that belong to the overarching Denver Mountain Park system. Because of its envious topography, Evergreen has become one of the top regional destinations for people to get away from it all and return to the joys that only nature can bring. What's more, because it's also about 7,000 feet above sea level, the beauty of Evergreen is enjoyed by residents and out-of-towners alike throughout the year, be it the mild summer or the cold, snow-topped winter.
Regardless of the season, Evergreen's appeal to those that live here is simply because it serves as a respite from the hustle and bustle of city living. For golden agers that spent the lion's share of their lives amongst skyscrapers and busy streets, moving to Evergreen may serve as an ultimate reward of sorts for a life well-lived.
Evergreen's vast network of assisted living facilities are as terrific as they are in part because they encourage seniors to live full lives that are driven by as much self-reliance and independence as possible. Indeed, these facilities will not blatantly step into the lives of their golden age residents if it is unnecessary. What this means is, they can all feel free to go about their business in the manner that best suits their mind and body.
That's not to say that these senior living communities are completely out of sight. It can be argued that one of the chief functions of these special facilities is to be a conduit for peer-to-peer connection, as they help to make it easy for like-minded seniors to meet and connect in an environment that is safe and convenient. Ultimately, this may lead to the formation of friendships and bonds, which may then make it easier for seniors to explore the city - since they will have friends to explore the city with.
And as one can imagine, most of Evergreen's exploration is conducted outside. Specifically, much of the town's activity is focused around Evergreen Lake, a man-made lake that is perched above the city's downtown region. There are also several historic places that can be explored within Evergreen, too; these range from registered parks that fall within the Denver Park system to historic ranches and homesteads. Evergreen also uses some of the historic buildings that are dotted about town as homes for several unique boutique stores and restaurants.
And because Denver is so close, those that wish to indulge in an occasional slice of city living can do so rather easily. And there are plenty of terrific things to do in the Mile High City upon arrival. These could be cultural excursions such as paying a visit to the Denver Art Museum or the Denver Aquarium, or it could be simply taking a stroll amongst the boutiques and eateries that line the downtown, open-air 16tth Street Mall.
Even though it's fair to say that to live the Evergreen lifestyle is to live a life of ease, that doesn't mean that living here should make its golden age residents sedentary. Indeed, the beautiful, bucolic nature of the city practically demands that residents step out and enjoy the stunning organic quality of the city. Fortunately, the senior living facilities in Evergreen are designed to help seniors never lose sight of this important axiom.
