How can your major of study improve the lives of seniors receiving in-home care services?

Essay response by Huseyin Kaygusuz, George Mason University

Although In-Home Care Services does an excellent job already, as an English Major I feel like I can do a lot to improve the lives of seniors receiving in-home care services. I can write proposals to help fund the in-home services that the seniors receive. I can write proposals to help financial support low income families that need In-Home Services. I can also write proposals to provide more workers for the growing number of senior citizens that will be using In-Home Services, even those that come from low income families because of my financial support proposals. My law degree in the near future can help push these proposals forward because writing a proposal is not enough to get things done.

Services such as transportation, grocery shopping, meals, and the many other services that are offered by In-Home Services can benefit from extra funding. Medication is also very expensive for some and I understand that Home Services provide medication reminders to seniors. Funding can improve In-Home Services quality for senior citizens. There is always room to improve and more services can be made available. Housekeeping can also be improved and I can use my skills of writing well, organized and persuasive to get the best services.

Proposals for funding that would help more senior citizens afford In-Home Care services would be another way my degree would help. Another problem that we have in Virginia is that the senior citizens who need In-Home Services cannot afford it. I take care of my grandmother and my father, but I know that there are those who do not have the time to do this. I am sure that these people care for their loved ones as much as I do and would like to provide as much service to them as I am doing for mines. When I do the my degree in English my versatility and my skill set get help bring better services to senior citizens benefiting from In-Home Services now and in the future. There are low income families, such as myself, who cannot afford to get In-Home Services for their loved ones. I could help these families and others so that they can get the In-Home Services they need for the senior citizens in their life.

My proposals would also provide jobs for those that are taking care of our senior citizens through In-Home Care services, extra workers can be found on the basis of volunteering or paid workers as well. I can write out plans and applications so that these volunteers can be acquired. Since I am an English major I am trained to right well, trained to be very organized and develop strong arguments. I can use these skills in order to provide the services that I have listed above. However this is not all, the reason I am taking English as a major is to acquire the skills I have listed in order to do well in law school. As a lawyer I can do even more for senior citizens in general and for the public in general. Senior citizens that are benefiting from In-Home Care Services are going to increase in the near future. This is one of the problems in Virginia and in West Virginia. My solution would be to work out a program using the skills I have acquired with my degree to help bring in more workers. Like I have stated before, I would work to organized and write proposals for volunteers or fund paid workers.

The three things that I would like to highlight overall that I can do for Senior Citizens using In Home Services. My English degree and Law degree can help those families in need with financial support for In-Home Services get the money they need. Second would be that I can work to write proposals which can get give more job opportunities in the In-Home Services, which would help make available more workers for senior citizens. These can be volunteers or paid workers. Lastly, I can improve the services for all senior citizens using In-Home Services no matter the income or the service needed. I care a lot about my grandparents and my parents, I would like for them to have a secure future just as they did for me.
