Virginia Beach Senior Centers

Life doesn’t end at retirement, in fact, for many seniors it’s just the beginning. You finally have the time to explore your interests, learn new hobbies, and take time for yourself. You might be interested in traveling or meeting new people. Perhaps you want to brush up on some old skills or head back to school to learn something new. Maybe you’re ready to hit the stage and be a star or accomplish fitness goals. No matter what you want to do, you can do it right here in Virginia Beach.

When You Want To Play Cards

Most seniors love playing card games, and if you’re no different, you can find plenty of games to join in the area. The Beazley Senior Center offers Bridge, Bingo, Mahjong, and variations of Canasta. The program 55 and Better offers bingo nights as well as pickleball matches. Also, you can search for all kinds of recreational activities on the Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation page.

When You Want To Go Back To School

Who says you can’t go back to school once you reach retirement? Learning new things is an excellent way to sharpen your mind and keep growing even if you aren’t headed off to work each day. The Adult Learning Center offers a variety of courses from computer skills to GED requirements to workforce training, if you want to go back to work. The city of Virginia Beach also offers technology courses so you can learn basic computer skills. The Institute for Learning in Retirement has classes that are just for retired seniors and has trips and overnight excursions.

When You Want To Improve Your Fitness

You might have neglected your health before because you were too busy, but now that you have the time it’s important to improve your fitness. Six senior centers in the area have fitness rooms with classes for seniors. The Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia also offers fitness programs that can help with balance, arthritis, and chronic diseases.

When You Want To Perform

You’re never too old to be a star, and there are plenty of chances to showcase your talents in Virginia Beach. The King’s Choir is a community group made up of singers over 50 from various churches in the area. You can join at any time, and there are no tryouts. If you want to be a part of the Virginia Choral Society, there are annual auditions. If dancing is more your style, then check out Dancing with the Seniors for your chance to strut your stuff on the dance floor. Also, most senior centers offer dance classes such as line dancing and tap class.

When You Want To Widen Your Social Circle

Now that you’re not at work every day you might find it a little harder to meet new people or spend time with your friends. Meetups happen all over Virginia Beach and are an excellent way to find seniors your age who enjoy your interests. If you want to find a romantic partner, there are meetups for that too.

When You Want To Hit The Open Road

Traveling is a fantastic way to spend your retirement, but if you’re solo, try a senior travel group. Senior Citizen Travel can give you trip ideas as well as help you organize your next outing. Senior Excursions offers tours of popular cities like Chicago or New York and makes it easy to plan your entire trip.
