Veterans in Toronto need all the support they can get, as there are a number of services that many vets do not receive until they find assistance. Healthcare, education, employment, and much more can be provided once veterans find the resources they need to get started.

Local Veterans Resources in Toronto

Veterans Affairs Canada has an office in Toronto. It is known as the Toronto-Sunnybrook Office. Veterans in this area can head to 2075 Bayview Avenue in the K-Wing to receive assistance. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can contact the office at 1-866-522-2122 in order to discuss an alternative time to meet.

The Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center offers a 24 hour crisis line. You can reach the line at 1-800-268-7708. Any members of the armed forces, family members of veterans, and former war vets are eligible to receive services through this center. A wide range of services are offered here, from financial assistance to health care, case management to home care and more. In terms of finances, there are disability benefits, death benefits, a war veterans allowance, and prisoner of war compensation.

Statewide Resources in Ontario

Veterans Affairs Canada is essentially a statewide service that allows all veterans in the area to receive benefits. You can use the “find an office” feature to search for a particular location if you desire, such as Ontario. Locations are specifically available in South Western Ontario, Central Ontario, and North Eastern Ontario.You can also call 1-800-268-7708 in order to reach a professional who can offer advice on mental health problems. This assistance service is a major help for many veterans who are suffering.

The Army, Navy, & Airforce Veterans in Canada is an organization devoted to providing services and resources to all veterans in the area. Advocacy and support are two of the main areas discussed for the ANAVETS. There are funeral and burial benefits, memberships, and a variety of programs and operations.

Recognition of Toronto Veterans

A Veterans’ Week is celebrated in Toronto. The calendar is updated periodically to ensure all events are included on the site. Additional events include annual occasions that occur each year. The Annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon is one option. It is held during the first or second week of November. It honors the nation’s heroes.

A Wreaths Across Canada National Service of Remembrance is celebrated in December. It begins with a wreath laying ceremony. The public is welcome to attend, as is the youth. Everyone is invited to a lay a wreath across a gravestone of a veteran buried a military cemetery in Ottawa. It is the Beechwood National Military Cemetery located at 280 Beechwood Avenue. Every single veteran will have a wreath placed on their headstone in order to recognize their valiant fight for the country.
