Toronto in Brief

There are a lot of ways in which Toronto can successfully claim to be Canada's premier city representative. For one thing, it is an enormous city. It boasts a population of around 2.6 million residents, making it the fourth most populous city in North America behind Mexico City, New York City, and Los Angeles. It is also a key global hub for finance, business, and culture.

It is also one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities. It is thought that about 50% of the city's residents were born outside of Canada. What's more, Toronto claims to have over 200 ethnic origins within its populace. This kind of diversity, when blended with its 140 independent neighborhoods, provides Toronto with the type of international flair most cities around North America do not come close to approaching.

One of the prime draws that have made Toronto such an international city is its strong economic landscape. The city's economy is chiefly driven by finance and banking, and these dual industries are massive enough to make Toronto a major player on the world stage. Toronto's economy is made even stronger by its successful ventures into other modern industries, such as telecommunication, information technology, publishing, and film production. This latter industry as grown so rapidly, that some circles now say that Toronto splits the title of "Hollywood North" with Vancouver. Toronto’s diverse economy has enabled the city to be the heart and soul of Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe region; and important economic and industrial region that is home to 8.7 million people, which is approximately 26% of Canada’s overall population.

Toronto does experience four distinct seasons. Yet it should be noted that the city is home to a couple of unique features that help prevent the weather from becoming too extreme. Firstly, the city's sheer density and urban landscape work together to keep nighttime temperatures a little warmer compared to elsewhere in the area. Secondly, the nearby presence of Lake Ontario provides a bit of a cooling effect to the city because of breezes coming off the lake.

Assisted Living in Toronto

Assisted living in Toronto is very similar to independent living. Yet there is one important difference that ultimately separates the two. In an assisted living situation, seniors that live at the facility require aid in one or more activities for daily living, which can occasionally be known as ADLs. These essential activities include things like changing clothes, cooking and cleaning, and bathing.

Other than receiving aid in these activities, the seniors that live in assisted living facilities have enough independence to where they can do what they want during the day, as long as their mind and body are fit enough to allow them to do so. Typically, a good assisted living place will emphasize what a senior can accomplish in their facility, instead of merely focusing on what they cannot do. This not only works to keep seniors physically active and mentally sharp, it also goes a long way into helping them preserve their overall sense of dignity.

Living the Assisted Living Life in Toronto

The assisted living services that are available in Toronto are crucial because it allows seniors to receive the care that they need in an environment that is safe, secure, and comfortable. This not only allows for a complete feeling of comfort to occur on the part of the senior, it also enables the senior's family to experience peace of mind along the way.
