Catholic Health Care in Toledo

Your Catholic faith is important, and you should be able to follow your beliefs in your health care, social activities, and recreation. Toledo offers Catholic medical facilities, assisted living communities, volunteer opportunities, several Catholic parishes, and nearby Catholic landmarks to visit.

Options for Catholic Senior Care

Mercy Health of Toledo has seven hospitals in Toledo, Tiffin, Willard, and Defiance. They provide care for more than 20 counties in the areas of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Mercy Health is the biggest Ohio health system and continues to hone the Mission of the healing ministry of Jesus.  They provide outreach to the community and the poor.

Franciscan Care Center provides rehabilitation and skilled nursing care. The team works with each patient to create a customized care plan that will be adjusted as needed. Short-term stay patients will get back on their feet using the latest techniques in physical, speech, and occupational therapies.

Long-term residents can choose between a private or semi-private room and can enjoy the beauty shop, courtyard with gazebo, chapel, and wireless Internet service. Residents can set their schedule to eat and choose which activities they want to enjoy. Other amenities include:

24-hour supervised care

Well-balanced meals that a chef prepares

Stay Connected with the Catholic Community

The Toledo Diocese offers charities, communications, and clubs to keep you in tune with the Catholic faith. You can also order a Catholic directory to see all the area churches.  There are regularly scheduled events, which you can see on the calendar.  The website has a communications section to keep you up-to-date with the Diocese. You can also read more about your area Bishop.

Recreation and Social Time for Catholic Seniors

An excellent way to feel good about yourself and give back to the community with others of the Catholic faith is to volunteer with the Catholic Charities. You can spend your time assisting at the Helping Hands of St. Louis Outreach Center serving meals, organizing drives for the La Posada Family Emergency Shelter, help raise money for the Glass City Marathon, work with mothers and their unborn children through Respect Life, or provide office support.

You can join others for a friendly game of Bingo at Little Flower Catholic Church or help with one of the parishes such as Ministry to Sick, Luncheon Funeral Ladies, or other prayer chains.

Christ the King provides religious education, community outreach programs, Bible studies, prayer groups, and regular picnics.

See Catholic Shrines

The Maria Stein Shrine and Holy Relics in Ohio provides more than 1,000 relics, which is the second largest collection in the US. The beautiful chapel is a great place to worship and meditate if you are unable to travel to the other Maria Stein Shrine in Switzerland.

The National Shrine of Our Lady Consolation is a replicate statue to the one at Cathedral of Luxembourg.  This shrine is in Carey, Ohio, which would be a nice road trip.  Conventional Franciscan Friars staff the shrine, and there is also a retreat house, gift shop, and cafeteria.
