Our country provides veterans with a variety of benefits as a show of gratitude for their service. However, trying to figure out how to access these benefits can be hard. Fortunately, there are many local resources to help Surprise veterans find job-search services, housing programs, and health care benefits, like mental health and substance abuse programs.
You may qualify for health care benefits through Veterans Affairs (VA) if you have served on active duty in the military. You are eligible for VA health care enrollment as long as you were not dishonorably discharged. This includes Reservist and National Guard vets who finished a federally-ordered tour. Go to the VA website to find applications separated by priority group.
Through the Phoenix VA Health Care System, veterans in Surprise can access an array of health care services, such as cancer programs, geriatrics and extended care, and women veterans health programs. The Phoenix VA also provides many mental health services, including treatments for substance abuse, anxiety, PTSD, depression, and more.
You can find a broad array of state and federal home, land, and long-term care programs for veterans and their relatives when you go to the Maricopa County Veteran Resources website. Get information about:

Veterans with everyday care needs can get help with housing from the Medical Foster Home program from the VA. Carefully-vetted caregivers take veterans into their private local homes and assist them with activities of daily living, prepare meals, provide transportation, and incorporate them into the family’s life.
The Arizona Department of Veterans Services (ADVS) supplies direct services to vets through the nineteen Veterans Benefits Offices they administer through Arizona. Surprise has an office on West Grand Avenue that helps veterans connect with VA benefits. ADVS provides the following services: military family relief funds, benefits booklets, women veterans’ services, veteran supportive campuses, suicide prevention, veterans courts, and employment assistance.
You can also get help finding benefits from [email protected] Maricopa County. The offer priority services to senior veterans and their eligible family members through comprehensive Career Centers. The closest center is the West Valley Career Center on North 95th Avenue in Phoenix.
