Scottsdale Senior Movers and Downsizers

When you envision your retirement, you probably don’t think about packing up your possessions and preparing for a move. Yet, at some point, the majority of golden agers relocate whether it is to a senior living facility or a smaller house. Due to the many seniors who are moving, there is an increasing need for senior move specialists who assist clients in preparing for, carrying out, and unpacking from a move.

What Is the Difference between Senior Movers and Regular Movers?

Senior moving experts perform a whole host of services, including helping with arranging your things exactly how you want them in your new place, transferring your utilities and other bills, downsizing and decluttering your things, donating or selling the items you no longer need and unpacking. They know that leaving a lifelong home can have an emotional impact and that your keepsakes may have a sentimental value.

When searching for senior move professionals, you may want to choose members of the National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM). Senior move managers (SMMs) must take courses on senior moving issues, abide by the organization’s ethics rules, and follow the NASMM’s insurance requirements in order to join.

When to Search for Senior Move Professionals

The perfect time to call on the skills of a senior moving specialist is when you are thinking about downsizing and are still active. You can take your time picking which possessions to pass along to family or friends, which to dispose of, which to keep, and which to donate when you start early. You can also come up with creative ways to help your downsizing efforts when you have more time. For example, rather than keeping your bulky belongings, you might consider putting together a digital photo album or video of these beloved items.

Where to Find Senior Moving Managers in Scottsdale

You can search for SMMs by your zip code or state when you use the Find a Senior Move Manager tool on the NASMM website. In the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, there are five SMMs plus another five throughout the state. To see whether movers are accredited by the Better Business Bureau and to see their ratings, you can also check the BBB Arizona website. The residents and workers at the senior living facility you are moving to may also have recommendations. Before you pick someone to transport and sort through your possessions, be sure to check out their customer reviews and references.

How Affordable Are Senior Moving Services?

Like most other personalized services, senior moving varies based on the services you want, how many items you have to move and sort through, and your time frame for finishing the relocation. You should expect to pay between $30 and $100 per hour for SMM services. Also, SMMs do not transport, load, or unload your possessions. They just coordinate the move. Movers will need to be hired for the muscle work.

You should look into a la carte alternatives or package deals when money is tight. Additionally, you can recoup some of the costs of moving when you sell items you don’t want. To make your move as stress-free as possible, it is worth paying a little extra.
