Savannah Senior Centers

Senior services available throughout the city of Savannah work tirelessly to help improve the mental and physical health of older adults. Savannah seniors can take advantage of local social, recreational, and educational opportunities in order to make the most out of their retirement years.

More than a dozen Golden Age Centers throughout Savannah offer senior services to local adults over the age of 55. Annual registration costs just $5 and includes a variety of benefits. Seniors can visit their nearest Golden Age Center to join social clubs, participate in board and card games, or relax over a puzzle.

Memorial University Medical Center's GenerationOne program also gives Savannah seniors the chance to meet, greet and socialize on a regular basis. Members can play a game of cards, eat a nutritious lunch, enter a friendly bingo competition, or attend movie showings. Services are available to adults over 50 for the low annual fee of $15 per person.

Senior Citizens, Inc. (SCI) operates Neighborhood Centers in convenient locations around Savannah that are designed to help seniors stay active and keep in touch with their community. Each center provides a home cooked lunch during the day along with entertaining and engaging activities such as Wii tournaments, card games, movies, and field trips. Transportation to and from SCI Neighborhood Centers is available for seniors without access to a car.

Do you want to learn more about computers? Are you eager to pick up a new hobby? Savannah is full of opportunities for older adults to learn new skills and improve old ones. Golden Age Centers throughout the city and the Memorial University Medical Center’s GenerationOne program offer a wide variety of technology courses and art classes. St. Joseph’s Hospital also offers computer classes as well as educational health seminars through its SmartSenior Program, which costs members just $15 annually.

The SCI Learning Center offers a casual, social environment where adults over 50 can learn about their passions. Students can immerse themselves in a foreign language during weekly conversation circles, learn about current events during discussion groups, improve their computer skills through computer coaching, and improve their literacy through book clubs and writing workshops.

Golden Age Centers offer a spectrum of fitness classes for older adults. Stretch out your limbs with some light chair aerobics, strengthen your muscles on group walks, or get your heart pumping with some high-intensity line dancing classes. GenerationOne also offers a range of senior exercise programs, including Yoga, Tai Chi, and Line Dancing.

Just because you’re getting older doesn’t mean you have to step down from the stage. The Jonesville Baptist Church Senior Saints Mass Choir welcomes seniors over the age of 50 to lead the church in worship and perform traditional music. Adults of all ages can also audition to join the world-famous Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir.

It can be difficult to make friends as an older adult, but luckily, Savannah is home to several Meetup groups that cater to locals over the age of 50. You can enjoy all that Savannah has to offer while meeting new friends with similar interests. If you’re single, you can join Savannah area dating groups in order to find that special someone.

Savannah seniors love to travel, and there are plenty of groups dedicated to helping them reach their destination. Memorial University Medical Center offers special travel packages for seniors through its GenerationOne program, while St. Joseph’s Hospital’s SmartSenior Travel Club offers special discounts on short stays at nearby destinations and longer getaways to popular U.S. and international cities. Golden Age Centers also offer quarterly excursions out of town.
