Live Like a Local in Savannah

Conde Nast Traveler named Savannah as “One of the World’s Friendliest Cities.” With a title like that, this hospitality will help you as you adapt to your new home. The locals will gladly give you recommendations. We have also given you a few of our suggestions for eating, shopping, and beauty services to make you feel right at home in this charming, southern city.

Southern food at its finest

Lunch and sandwich go together. If you are looking for the best sandwiches in the city, visit Joe’s Homemade Cafe. This laid-back deli offers Savannah-influenced sandwiches such as The River Street albacore sandwich, pulled pork Ellis with Jo’Slaw, or the Ardsley chicken salad sandwich bursting with Georgia pecans. Joe’s Homemade won Savannah’s Best Café category in 2014.

Southern food is known to be fried, which makes it tasty. The Lady & Sons, owned by Paula Deen, delivers this Southern goodness and does it well. You will see lines down the street to enjoy this decadent food with Southern-favorite entrees such as shrimp and grits, chicken pot pie, Savannah crab cakes, and of course, fried chicken. You can’t miss the Sunday buffet packed with fried chicken, pulled pork, and the creamiest mac ‘n cheese. We dare you to leave room for that dessert bar!

The Olde Pink House is one of Savannah’s most popular restaurants. The atmosphere gives you a feeling of the old South with the plantation house and antebellum feel. The Shellfish Tower offers the best and freshest catch around town. The collard greens are also a favorite. It’s hard to name favorites as they are all that good! This restaurant is the perfect romantic dinner spot to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or just a special night out on the town.

Hunting for Southern treasure

Savannah is filled with tons of shopping and pretty much any store you can imagine. City Market covers two blocks and is filled with eclectic retail shops, art galleries, restaurants, and nightlife spots. While you shop, local musicians will sing down the streets. You will also see tourists taking carriage tours through the heart of the historic center.

There are two popular, unique shops in Savannah. The Salt Table is a top place to shop in Savannah and offers more than 200 flavors of salts, spices, teas, and samplings of Georgia wines.

Shop The Fox is an award-winning coffee shop that now offers unique retail space. It features coffee brew equipment, original artwork, prints, stationery, gifts, and other oddities. Grab your coffee and shop the fox!
