Catholic Health Care in San Jose

A number of Catholic offerings are available in San Jose for health care solutions. The senior community has an abundance of resources available, particularly from Catholic Charities chapters and hospitals in the area. Assisted living, home care, and rehabilitation services can all be found in San Jose.

Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County

San Jose is in Santa Clara. The county offers a Catholic Charities chapter, with information regarding older adult services. These services include providing meals, respite care, and checking up on those in assisted living facilities to determine if they are being cared for as intended.

Diocese of San Jose

The Diocese of San Jose offers an abundance of resources for the Catholic community, including senior health care. Volunteers can assist in making this organization better by providing donations. Memorials and tribute gifts are an ideal way to make sure that happens.

Volunteering time at a hospital is also ideal. There is one hospital located in San Jose, and another less than an hour away in Gilroy. Both options provide ideal care services to seniors.

O’Connor Hospital

Cancer care, cardiac care, wound care, and emergency services are all available at O’Connor Hospital. This Catholic offering is rated a Center of Excellence by California for knee and hip replacements, a common surgery required for the elderly. Spiritual care is also offered by the facility. Spiritual counseling, pastor visits, crisis intervention, family conferences, and grief counseling are all included.

Saint Louise Regional Hospital

Saint Louise Regional Hospital is not located directly in San Jose, but is less than an hour drive from the city. This regional offering provides oncology services, wound care, emergency care, minimally invasive surgery, nutrition counseling, and palliative care. Palliative care refers to services provided during an encounter with a serious illness. Oftentimes, these illnesses are either long-lasting, or chronic. Spiritual, emotional, and medical needs are all met during this time.

Nausea, depression, and fatigue are three of the most common symptoms seen with an ongoing illness. The team of professionals working on the case will relieve pain and reduce symptoms while respecting each person’s wishes on how to do so. Difficult medical decisions often need to be made during this time, which the doctors and palliative care experts can assist with.
