New to the St. Louis area? You’re in luck. St. Louis offers plenty to see and do outside of the traditional tourist attractions. Head off the beaten path and find some exciting locations that many others don’t even know exist.

Dine Like a St. Louisian

Pappy’s Smokehouse is a down-home barbeque joint. Pulled pork sandwiches, beef brisket, and a BBQ salad are some of the main menu offerings. Meat is slow cooked for up to 14 hours before being served. The smokehouse opens at 11 each day, and only stays open until it sells out. That typically happens around 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and by 4:00 p.m. on Sundays.

A late night music club is offered out back of the Iron Barley Eating Establishment. The restaurant is only open Wednesday through Saturday most months, but the menu is filled with delicious options. Smoked wings, chili dogs, pulled pork ravioli, and an open faced bbq beef sandwich are just a few of the leading items on the menu.

At the Lemp Mansion, lunch and dinner are served. American cuisine is provided at this casual location with historic views. An all-you-can-eat chicken dinner is served on Sundays in a family-style setting. It runs from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Lunch is available on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Shop Like a St. Louisian

The Loop Delmar is a street filled with specialty shops, galleries, and dining locations. Avalon Exchange, Blick Art Materials, Emporium Smoke Shop, Headz N Threadz, and Loop Living Furniture are a small selection of what the Loop has to offer. Miss M’s Candy Boutique, Phoenix Rising, and Pitaya are additional offerings.

Locals in need of a gift often head to The Porch Gift & Wine Boutique. Home furnishings and unique gift options, including wine are available in the store. The shop is not usually open on Mondays, and instead has hours available Tuesday through Sunday. Tuesday through Friday the shop is open the latest, with closing hours set at 6:00 p.m.
