Social Security for Reno Seniors

Social Security provides you income as you leave the daily work life. There are local SSA offices to help you manage your benefits and get the most out of your retirement. The office staff will answer your questions and help you updated any necessary items.  You do not have to go to the office;  you can also contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) by calling one of the toll-free numbers or submit requests on their website.

Reno Social Security Office

The Reno Social Security Office’s address is 1170 Harvard Way, which is on the Northeast corner of Harvard Way and Vassar Street. The phone number is 1.888.808.5481.  The TTY line is 1.800.325.0778.  The office is open Monday - Friday, with hours of 9-4 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays, the hours are 9-12.

There is also a Resident Station in Elko.  The address is 350 W. Silver Street. To find additional offices, enter a zip code into the SSA’s online office locator.

Social Security Senior Programs

The Social Security office can also help you with other federal programs such as Medicare, disability, and other federal retirement services.  You can visit the local office if you prefer to discuss benefits in person or need help.  To avoid a wait, schedule an appointment to speak with a representative.

If you receive Social Security disability benefits and are under the age of 65, you may be eligible for SSA’s free “Ticket to Work” program to learn new job skills. As you learn, you will still earn your disability pay.  Area agencies manage this program. To learn more, call the Helpline at 1.866.968.7842.

If you need more information about Social Security benefits, you can have a speaker talk to your club, senior community, or another group. Just fill out the online form to submit the request.  You can also ask for a translator to explain benefits in any language.
