The northern county of Baltimore, Maryland is located along the Pennsylvania border. Baltimore County surprisingly enough, does not include the city of Baltimore but actually encircles the city to include most of its suburbs. The current estimated population is approximately 831,000 within a 682-square mile area that is predominately suburban and rural neighborhoods. Geographically, much of the county is rolling hills and mixed forests with long shorelines to the far southeast; the largest town within county lines is Towson, which is where the county seat is located. The climate is similar to the rest of the northern Atlantic Coast with humid subtropical conditions and four distinct seasons. Snowfall is less frequent than other areas depending on proximity to the coast while summers carry mostly moderate temperatures and frequent thunderstorms.
