Being the capital of North Carolina, Raleigh boasts a large amount of popular attractions for visitors and residents alike to visit. Several businesses provide discounts to both military members and senior citizens. Seniors in the area have more than six places they can visit to receive a special admission price.

Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh

Various programs are available through CAM Raleigh, the popular art museum where children and adults alike can explore the many offerings available. Local artists are one of the main focuses for the exhibits, providing a space for all their talented designs. General admission is $5, but seniors are able to get in completely free.

North Carolina State Fairgrounds

Each year, a state fair is held at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. Large crowds pay the gate fees and admission prices in order to get into the fair and experience the many rides, attractions, and types of food offered. Senior adults who are at least 65 years of age do not have to pay a gate or admission price. They get into the fairgrounds completely free in order to experience the surroundings. You will still have to pay for food or rides if you wish to participate in those components.

North Carolina Zoo

Just over an hour away in Asheboro, the North Carolina Zoo provides a wide range of animal exhibits that guests can spend hours exploring. The North America and Africa exhibits are two of the largest, with animals from both continents present. You can receive a senior discount at this zoo as long as you are at least 62 years of age. You will get $2 off your admission price.

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

The oldest established museum in the area, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is made up of a number of buildings and unique exhibits. Flight of the Butterflies is shown each day in 3D, while other highlights are featured for designated periods of time. A zoo area is included in the museum, with mainly fish, reptiles, and amphibian present. There is free admission for all ages.

North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame

More than 3,000 square feet make up the museum that is the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. It is located within the North Carolina Museum of History. You can find sports memorabilia, photographs, and various showcases on the third floor. Admission to this museum is also free.

Joel Lane House

Joel Lane House is a historic home dating back to the 18th century. It has since been restored and now acts as a home museum that showcases historic artifacts from its original time period. Guided tours are available regularly. You can receive a senior discount for $1 off if you are over the age of 65. You may receive an additional $1 discount if you present a AAA card. It is possible to schedule a tour for a larger group or join a regular tour time that is available.
